Our Tuesdays on the Run topic this week is Favorite Spring Running Stuff. Because I spent most of March on the Injured DL, and because it feels nothing like spring here in Chiberia, I don’t have too many favorite spring running things right now, unless you count this BIG ONE:
I just completed my first comeback run since this dang knee injury. Yes, it’s all unicorns and rainbows up in here right now. All is right with the world because this run junkie got her sweaty fix, even if it was only 1.5 miles of run/walk intervals on the mill. Any run is a good run and a post-injury comeback run is a GREAT ONE!
I can tell you some of the things that made my time on the injured DL a little more bearable. This post contains affiliate links.
- Compression Knee Sleeve
- Topical Magnesium Spray from Now Foods. This stuff is my magic elixir.
- Regular Physical Therapy
- Ice, ice baby…and some heat too
While all of that is necessary for recovery, none of it is particularly fun. The secret to keeping my head in a good place when I’m injured is to go easy on myself. Cut myself some slack. Treat myself.
Rather than sit around feeling sorry for myself…
I focus on the athletes I coach. Three of them are headed to Boston for a certain marathon in a few weeks and I couldn’t be more proud.
I focus on my kids. I already told you they’re both running track this season. You know how much I love that!
I focus on being kind to myself. I’m making an effort to eat well, get enough sleep and be thorough with my physical therapy. I’m treating myself too. I refreshed my makeup and wardrobe for spring. I used to be more meticulous with this sort of things (last century) but for the last several years there’s little a trip to the ole Tarjay can’t cure. This time I splurged a bit and bought “good” makeup at Sephora. I choked a little when I realized the concealer “Sunshine” recommended for me was $50 and I now own an eyebrow pencil that looks like a magic wand out of Disney but overall it was a fun adventure for this old bag.
As far as wardrobe goes, here are some of the pieces I picked up:
A little Athleisure from Athleta…
…and a workout top from Athleta as well.
I got a few things from PrAna…including this cute sweater…
…and I couldn’t resist these Campus Shoes from Adidas. Kind of retro, yes?
Alright so those are some of my spring favorites. Now it’s time to tell me about yours. What do you splurge on? Are you kind to yourself?

I am just now, too, returning to running after a bad sprain in September! :O Tell me more about the magnesium spray? Do you use it for pain relief? I’d only heard it used for sleeping!!

Ha! I bought that same Athleta top! LOVE it.

Congrats on your first post-injury run! 🙂
I love the items you purchased from Athleta – super cute!!
I usually purchase a few running items once a season is over. The other day I purchased some winter running items since they were heavily discounted. I’ll save them for the end of this year. I’m all about a good sale.

Well, I haven’t really splurged on anything spring-like yet…other than another marathon registration 😉 Glad to hear your first run went well!!

Glad to hear that your knee is healing.
Spring? What’s that. We still have snow in the forecast for Friday.
My splurge is always a new pair of running shoes and I just a got a pair. I also bought a new running skirt – it’s not the same style that I always buy so we’ll see if I like it.

Those tops from Athlete are SO CUTE!!!
Hooray for run/walk intervals on the treadmill! Baby steps, right? And you gotta enjoy every single one of them. 🙂
I’ve never heard of that magnesium spray. I’m going to have to check that out.

I hope you get spring soon. We get spring, then back to winter. Spring, winter. No wonder my allergies are suffering. I do agree, new gear is a great way to stay motivated.
Rach @ Girl On The Run says

Oh I remember those days all too well where I was able to do even a mile after being injured. It was so glorious! Congrats to you. I know that’s a good feeling.

It’s easier to be kind to yourself when you don’t have kids. 🙂
Although I actually haven’t been doing as much clothes shopping lately. It’s been months since I’ve been in Marshalls, but I am planning a trip this week. Because, change of season, blah blah blah. You just never know what you will find there.

I like the way you ‘treat yourself’ and I do love all things Athleta!!! Good choices! Congratulations on your comeback run ….you’re well on your way!

Yay for getting back on the treadmill! I’m glad that your recovery is going well. I’ve never tried a magnesium spray, hmmm…
It’s definitely important to focus on the positive when you’re injured!

I hope your knee continues to mend, Marcia. Did your doctor or PT ever figure out what the problem was? I always dread not being able to exercise, but sometimes it’s a lot easier than I expected.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Yay for a run! I need to check out that Magnesium spray. Love those Athleta tops – I just got the catalog and I want everything 🙂
