Here’s how the week after the Gasparilla Distance Amber Challenge went. Not much running, but I’m quite alright with that:
Monday: Rest (travel home from Tampa)
Tuesday: Rest
Wednesday: Yoga
Thursday: Strength
Friday: Run 8 miles
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: CrossFit
Here’s the rundown on February:
February Miles Run: 70. I certainly did not light the world on fire with my running in February.
Strength Sessions: 4
CrossFit Sessions: 3
While running has been tough, strength/CrossFit have been my saving grace. I’m making good progress, enjoying the challenge and I feel like my races went better than expected because I’m strong.
Yoga: What? Still very spotty on this.
Races: 3. Gasparilla 15k, 5k and half marathon (half race recap still coming).
Injuries: 1. I tweaked my hip flexor the weekend before Gasparilla. Miraculously it doesn’t bother me at all when I run but I’m being very careful with strength workouts.
Most idiotic thing I did: Try to put on running tights too soon after having my nails done. I got lavender nail polish all over my best/newest $$$ Lululemon tights as I yanked them up. Sigh. Who does this??
Visits from the in-laws: 2
Snow Days: 1. This is our first snow day in 3 years.
Podcasts listened to: 1. The Balanced Blonde. It’s perfectly good, and I listed to a loooong episode (1 hr 40 minutes) about setting intentions in the new year, but honestly it’s just not a fit for where I am at this point in my life.
Books read: 2. The Craving Cure, by Julia Ross (more to come on this one). A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman. This is a sweet story about despair and hope. It took me awhile to get through it (it’s easy to put down) but I finished it on the plane to Florida.
Movies/shows watched: No movies; all Olympics all the time, and I’m almost through season one of The Crown.
Highlights:
It’s high school (indoor) track season and so far The Teenager is slaying her races and the team is winning their meets. I’ve got her seeing Dr. Miracle my sports chiro twice a month to hopefully headoff the hamstring issues she’s been plagued with the past two years.
While much of the country is experiencing crazy weather, the Chicago area has been bathed in sunshine and unseasonably warm temperatures. Maybe we’ll pay for this in the weeks to come, but for now I’m loving it!
Hot List
Let’s take a look at the latest RunLocker subscription box. As usual, there’s a lot of running goodness lurking inside:
Nathan Race Belt. Especially when I travel, I do not race without a race belt to carry gels, hotel key, money, etc. Love this one in hi-viz yellow.
Picky Bars. These have a 4:1 carb to protein ratio. If you haven’t tried them yet, you need to.
FitKicks FitWrist. This wrist wallet stretches for a comfy fit. Water-resistant lining keeps your essentials dry and sweat-free. Perfect for a key, ID, couple of bucks, whatever.
VFuel Energy Gels. Made with all-natural flavors and ingredients, these gels have a thinner-than-usual consistency. I tried the Cool Citrus flavor and it’s great!
Nasty Body Wipes. These ‘body & face power towels” are great for freshening up after a race or run when a shower is not an option. They contain natural fruit extracts and shea butter to keep skin nourished.
Mystery Gift! Right now you’ll get an extra FREE BONUS GIFT when you sign up for a RunLocker Box or subscription. Be sure to email admin@runlocker.com to ensure you get your bonus gift.
How was your week? What’s the most idiotic thing you’ve done recently? What item in the RunLocker Box would you most want to try? Congrats to everyone who ran the Tokyo Marathon and everyone who got in to NYCM!

Did you see the movie A Man Called Ove? It’s free on Amazon Prime and it is well worth the watch. I just loved it. I also read Beartown by the same author and thought it was fabulous!
What would we do without our strength training? We might be slowing down, but we can kick some a$$!
Have a great week!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Oh no on the Lulu tights!
That RunLocker box looks like some great goodies!
Kim G says
I would say that you definitely had a very busy month!
I’m glad that your hip flexor did not bother you during your races last weekend.
So sorry about the lululemon pants – that sucks 🙁 IS there definitely no way to get the polish out?
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
Sounds like you got a lot of goodies this month in your box. I actually surprised myself and have been doing a few yoga sessions. I have been doing PiYo.
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
I get gel nails so they last longer and dry immediately but I have done that with a pedicure and they stuck to my socks. Real problems indeed! Have a great week

I am needing to do my toe nails, and I do not know when the optimal time is because my feet need socks this time of year something ridiculous. The temps are cool but not cold enough to get the furnace to run so the inside of my house almost feels colder than it is outside. That said, one time I tried doing my toe nails one evening and sat with my feet right next to the space heater for a good hour. Went to bed and smeared everything all over the sheets because the color still hadn’t quite “cured” enough.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Thats so frustrating about the tights! Plus you probably ruined your nails:( All of the items in your Run Locker Box look great!

Usually I’d be bummed at messing up a manicure, but yikes on the tights! It’s great that your daughter’s season is off to such a great start – hope she stays injury free too.
I really liked A Man Called Ove. The Hundred Year Old Man who … is similar but quite different and very enjoyable.
Laura says
You are definitely lucky to miss that mess of a storm! I enjoyed the Cravings Cure- curious to hear your thoughts.
And awesome goodies! TJ’s was carrying Picky Bars for a month or so but stopped. I miss them and need to order more!
Stacey says
Huge congrats to your daughter and her team! The most idiotic thing I’ve done lately happened this weekend: my electricity was out and I had not had my coffee yet. Instead of just driving the next town over, I had this “genius” idea of pugging in the power strip to the car’s lighter port—I usually use it to do work on my laptop on road trips—and then plug in an electric kettle which resulted in blowing a fuse. Car is fine but I can’t charge my phone on the road now until I take it in to get fixed.

I thought my mileage for February felt a lot higher than my actual number. I kept checking and re-checking. LOL. Congrats to the Teen. I hope her hammie behaves this year. Gasparilla sounded like so much fun. You definitely earned a few days of rest. The most idiotic thing this month was leaving the refrigerator door ajar overnight. The light bulbs inside were hot enough to melt 4 sticks of butter on the top shelf. Ask me if I ate the yogurt and drank the milk…Yes I did, and lived to tell the tale. Thanks for linking!
Virjinia @ With Purpose and Kindness says
That’s why I’ve been holding off on painting my nails because I always feel like I’m going to need to use my hands for something or deal with my dog and there goes my nails lol. Hope you’re able to get your nail polish off your tights somehow! I totally rolled my ankle by stepping on a pine cone while walking my dog. We go down that path multiple times a week and it’s nothing new but of course!
Zenaida Arroyo says
What a busy month for you!
That fit wrist looks like something that I could use.
The Accidental Marathoner says
Oh, I can’t tell you how many things I’ve ruined with wet nail polish. I swear, my nails take three times as anyone else to dry. I tried the no-chip, but it seriously ruined my nails. Even the girl who does them says they’re terrible. I’m still catching up on a year’s worth of monthly magazines, so books are out of the question right now! I may just follow Wendy’s tip and check out the movie on Amazon Prime!
Lesley says
I did it years ago, but I did my nails and didn’t wait long enough. I then took off a very nice and very new running stop and it streaked the dark red polish down one side. Ugh!
Wendy says
I haven’t done a subscription box in awhile . . . yours looks fun! Love the Nathan belt.
vicki says
I read a Man Called Ove… it took me awhile to finish too, but I enjoyed it. Yikes on the tights!
