A very welcome thaw and lots of snow meltage meant I was able to dismount the treadmill and hit the road in the great outdoors for all of my runs this week. Here’s how my workouts shook out:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 6 Miles
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: 4 Miles
Friday: Plyo Intervals
Saturday: 8 Miles
Sunday: CrossFit
This week had its challenges: Painters in the house made me unable to be at the gym or home working out/showering when they’re here, which put a squeeze on my time. Our house was 5 years old when we bought it. That was 17 years ago and we’re at a place where things need a refresh. I’m trying not to be one of those “old ladies” who can’t see that her furniture, etc. is completely outdated.
It was nice to get outside, although after the first run my shins were feeling it. Sheesh. That’s what a week on the mill will do to you I guess.
Valentine’s Day was a non-event. After the Caveman told me he’d rather not “do cards” due to the commercial aspect of the day, I left the one I’d already gotten him in a drawer. I made Shrimp Fra Diavolo and Paleo Chocolate Chip cookies and called it good. Nothing says romance like watching some Winter Olympics coverage.
Speaking of Olympics, did you watch the men’s figure skating? My heart hurt for Nathan Chen but he really brought it in his long program. I am so SO proud of Shoma Uno, who took the silver medal. Shoma trains at our rink and could not be a nicer guy or a more spectacular skater. If you think running is mentally tough, let me tell you it pales in comparison to having to throw down a performance on ice. Most fun of all might have been following (88 yr old figure skating icon) Dick Button’s tweets all evening. Can’t wait to see what he has to say when the ladies take the ice.
Hot List
You know I love me some bright colors and Balega socks just unveiled their new, fresh for spring sock colors. They are fabulous and of course I want no…NEED…all of them. We all know how important fun colors are, right?
Amazing Grass Effervescents in new flavors. While Balega has new colors, Amazing Grass added some fun new flavors to their Effervescent lineup. I bought the Strawberry Lemonade and Watermelon-Lime and was not disappointed at all. They are delicious! I dissolve 2 tablets in ice water every afternoon as a tasty little pick me up. I swear it helps me stay away from junk food.
The week ahead
I’m looking forward to a long-awaited appointment with the endocrinologist. We need to get this hormonal trainwreck back on track.
Thing 2 has her second band concert of the school year. Time flies.
Gosh I hope the painters finish up this week…
I’m headed to Tampa for the Gasparilla race weekend!
Join us this Friday because the Runfession Friday linkup will be OPEN! I promise you’ll head into March Madness feeling better!
How was your week? Did you race? Olympic highlights?
Fairytales and fitness says
So will you be showing before and after pictures of your home improvements? I think you should!
Have fun at Gasparilla this weekend. I always remember that being the same weekend as the Disney Princess half marathon weekend!

Glad the snow is melting and you were able to get back outside! We had a warm week and then snow this weekend. Have fun at your race next weekend!

My heart also broke for Nathan Chen – if only he had a better short program, he would have received a medal.
Wendy says
I’m pretty sure I am that old lady who doesn’t realize her house is outdated! Please don’t say anything when you are here…
Good luck at Gasparilla! I’m sure it’s going to be a fun weekend! After you get back, let’s have lunch so we can pow-wow about spring!
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
ooh I forgot the runfessions was this week! Thanks for the reminder. I may have to try the amazing grass you make them look good 🙂
Jennifer @ Fit Nana says
Those socks are so cool!! I’ve seen the Balegas but have never tried any. I might have to just for the colors. 🙂
I’ve missed most of the figure skating because I can’t stay up that late. 🙁 I did see Mirai land that triple axel in the team competition, though! I have some of it recorded but have been too busy to try and catch up. I did catch the women’s 4x5km relay last night and that was super exciting!
Fingers crossed for the painters finishing and letting you breathe a little before Gasparilla!

I’m so glad you got outside for your runs this week. I’m one of those old ladies who doesn’t know her house is outdated. We’ve been here 19 years and haven’t changed much except the kitchen. I know I should but can’t find the energy. I’ve been watching snowboarding and downhill skiing, etc. I haven’t seen much of the figure skating but can only imagine what nailing a performance entails — so many elements at play. Enjoy Gasparilla. I’ll be totally jealous. Thanks for linking!

I wish I was joining you at Gasparilla! It looks like such a fun event…good luck! I have actually been watching all the skiing and am over-the-moon short of breath seeing all the twists/turns/leaps off the snow-covered ramps.

Having contractors in the house is always a pain. This house already could use a fresh coat of paint, we’ve been here 10 years, I doubt it’s gonna happen any time soon.
There’s pressure, and then there’s Olympic pressure, and then there’s Olympic pressure when you’re a teenager. But I was so proud of Nathan for going all out even after all the disappointments. And Adam Rippon was mesmerizing. As was Javier. In such different ways, too!
Enjoy your trip & your race.

My Valentine’s Day was also a non-event filled with Olympics. Have fun this weekend getting out to warmer weather!

Can’t wait to see you!

Yay for Gasparilla!! Can’t wait to hear all about it. hahaha I’m with your husband….I hate buying cards. Like why spend $5 on it? Any way, great job with your workouts this week! I need to check out the amazing grass tablets!
Coco says
Oh, good luck with the doctor’s appointment! Hmm on your husband’s comment, and LOL on your response. I did get my husb a gift that I put a lot of thought into, but I ended up having to do a lot of work at home while we watched the Olympics, so I wasn’t a great date either. :-/
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I felt so bad for Nathan Chen – his long program was fantastic! Hope the endocrinologist has some answers for you!
Catherine says
For Valentines Day my husband and I opened a bottle of wine and filed our taxes as a married couple for the first time (just got married last September). Sounds kind of dumb but we looked forward to it all week and it felt special.
I hope you get some answers from the endocrinologist this week.
Lesley says
I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day. I can’t have flowers because my cat would eat them, and some of them are poisonous to cats! I also watched the Olympics, but watched skiing.
Darlene says
I am so proud of Nathan Chen. It takes guts to come back like that.
The snow melts and then it snows again. It is warm, then cold, then warm…and probably next week it will snow and be cold.
I am so over winter.
Have fun next weekend. How could you not?
Alyse says
We watched the Olympics on V Day, too. The figure skating has been such a wild ride to follow and so fun to watch!
Sharon says
I recently tried Balega socks and love that they are so soft!! Cool to see they have new fun colors. Sadly I haven’t seen much of the winter Olympics this year. I’ll have to watch some highlights or something. Have fun at Gasparilla!!
Jenn says
I love that you are having your house painted! I’m about ready to do mine, but we are waiting on a quote to have our floors and kitchen done. We will see if it’s going to be a reality. Fingers crossed.
I had two races last weekend, which were both phenomenal, and no Olympic coverage here. I wish I had more time to enjoy, but them’s the breaks.
