It’s been the wettest week in years here in Chicago. What are the chances it’d happen during spring break in a year when we’re not traveling? Sigh. Anyway, rainy or not, it’s time to curl up with a steaming cup of something and chat. I’m linking up with Coco and Deb for the Ultimate Coffee Date.
It’s got to be warmer and sunnier in Spain than it is here, right?
If we were having coffee I’d tell you the bright spot about staying in town during spring break, is there’s NO traffic. I pretty much have the roads to myself, which I need because I’ve been driving these kids everywhere.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you that the teenager is a little less than 3 months out from getting her license. She drives a ton and, I have to admit, is a really solid, conscientious driver. I’m so proud of her. And yet, there are times when I’m still plenty nervous when she’s behind the wheel.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you how frustrating it is when brands are ridiculous. Case in point: A recent Fitfluential campaign for Kotex is looking for women with fitness expertise and healthy lifestyle advocates in “a range of diversity and body types to illustrate one size doesn’t fit all”. Apparently the “diversity” they’re seeking only extends to the 18-35 yr old age group. I suppose 40+ women are just too “diverse”. Let’s not even talk about us 50+ yr. old battle axes.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you we have plans to go out with friends Saturday night. While I’m happy to finally be doing something “fun” I was this close to cancelling when I realized the World Figure Skating Championships are on Saturday night. As a figure skating coach, this is my Superbowl and Boston Marathon all rolled into one. And I’m going to miss it.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you I was impressed that the teenager’s new passport arrived just 2 weeks after submitting the application. Then I’d tell you it’s been 8 weeks now since Thing 2’s passport materials arrived in Virginia for processing and we still haven’t received her new one. According to the website, the wait time is 4-6 weeks. I called and spoke to a very nice lady, expressing my fear Thing 2’s application had gotten lost in the process somewhere. She assured me it hadn’t and to “keep checking back”. Really? That’s why we always allow plenty of time for this kind of stuff.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you I bit the bullet and signed up for a Stitch Fix and I just got notice that my “Fix” is on it’s way! I’m nervously excited!
If we were having coffee, I’d ask if you saw the new Boston Qualifying Standards. If not, they’re here.
If we were having coffee what would you tell me?

Haha, that picture is priceless!!!
The link to the “new” BQs is broken….but I googled it and nothing has changed? Are you pranking us?
Don’t even get me started about all the ageism we’re seeing…

So I am still nervous when my son leaves the house in the car. I have this great app Life360 where you can track them while they drive. I saw that kotex thing and applied anyway. ? Hope your passport thing is resolved quickly! Thanks for joining for coffee

Teenagers driving……ugh, those were the days! Mine still make me nervous, I guess if Katie wasn’t on a motorcycle I would feel better. Have fun tonight! It will do you good to get out! and Stitch Fix? I am dying to see what they send you- I hope you share!

That same brand thing irked me and made me think “I’m not young anymore.”

Thanks for the reminder. I LOVE watching ice skating. My favorite thing in the world to watch.

I’ve been doing StitchFix for a while now. Every fix they send has something orange in it (most recently jeans). I had to tell them stop with the orange already. We’ll see. That passport stuff sounds so frustration! I hope you don’t have to start over.

That last comment was from me (Holly). I forgot to check the autofill…

Ah teenagers driving…I’ve got a couple more years to wrap my brain around that concept. Don’t even get me started on that brand campaign – seeing it more and more…

Oh good lord, my youngest has his permit and I just don’t know that my nerves can handle a third one. The other two about killed me! Sure, they really were good drivers too …but that dang blaring music…I just can’t deal. lol
The hubs is in the process of getting his passport renewed as well. We’re in no hurry as we aren’t going on overseas trip until 2018…surely his will be back by then! Hope Thing 2s gets delivered soon!
Yeah, that whole Kotex deal make me mad too. Why are we immediately brushed off as old and washed out just because we’re in our “golden years”!!!

Just wait until your kids want to drive to Florida for Spring Break with their friends…that’s when the real worrying starts. Our son has done it twice (this year and last year)…and I trust him, but not necessarily some of his friends. Parenting bites (sometimes).

That is nuts on the campaign so-called diversity deal. I have seen it before and it always makes me shrug my shoulders in wonder.
Scary having a new driver in the house, but sounds like she is ready for the responsibility. Now, she just needs to watch out for others who aren’t so smart on the roads. Oy. LOL!

I grew up in North Dakota and got my drivers license at 14. Back then that was the age residents could get there license and I think you could get your farm license at 13. WAY TOO YOUNG. I can’t imagine what my parent thought when I drove away the first time at 14.
Spring break cycle started three weeks ago here in the Twin Cities. It has been so nice because the traffic has been so much lighter! So I can only imagine how it is in Chicago.

I have always wanted to try Stitch Fix — maybe I’ll wait for your review 🙂
