This week on Tuesdays on the Run we’re talking about that bucket list. We wanna know what races or running experiences might be lurking on yours. I mean let’s face it, there are so many enticing ones. The possibilities are virtually endless.
I’ve had the privilege of many running adventures. Many states, many countries, many races checked off the bucket list. Truly if I never ran again, my cup hath already runneth over.
What remains on my bucket list?
It’s no secret I’m not jonesing for another marathon. Shorter races hold more appeal to me at this point. After racing in Dublin this summer, I find myself especially lured by foreign races. And yet? There are two marathons still sitting in that to-do bucket.
The London Marathon. Aka the one that got away. I freaking LIVED there back in the days there was no lottery. You simply signed up and I had that application in my hot little hand yet never pulled the trigger.
The Berlin Marathon. I didn’t forego any opportunities to run this one but so far I’ve made no effort to get there either. 2017 will 10 years since I ran my first marathon. Perhaps Berlin would be a suitable way to commemorate that? I’m not holding my breath.
When I complete London and Berlin, I’ll have run the five marathon majors I set out to run back in 2009 when I started this blog.
What’s on your running bucket list? Have you run London or Berlin? The Marathon majors?
Meranda @fairytales and fitness says
Here’s hoping you fulfill your bucket list of running the majors!
MCM Mama Runs says
I’m so glad that was never my goal. There were multiple years between my 2nd and 3rd marathons and I think there will be a lot between my 6th (MCM this year) and my next one. Good luck getting those two done!
Karen @ Fit in France says
I am not looking to sign up for any other marathon in the near future. Ask me in 6 months !
The only race I really want to do is a Disney race….
Mary Beth Jackson says
I want to do a Ragnar relay- that is on my bucket list. You set a pretty big goal! I hope you get it 🙂
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
As you know, I haven’t run a marathon.
I do kind of want to do the Alaska running cruise — came super close to doing that last summer!
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
NYC and Boston need to happen for me. I would love to do Paris as well. And Runner’s World Weekend!
Patty says
Oh, I hear you. Both races look amazing. Hopefully you will get them off the list someday!
Rachel says
I feel you on the shorter distance races. I’ve actually never had any interest in racing internationally. I think my husband would divorce me if I suggested that. ?
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I did sign up for a spring marathon that I’ve always wanted to…and no, it’s not Boston… I haven’t told my husband yet, so it isn’t firm. I just wanted to make sure I got a spot before it filled up.
It will be #5 and I think that will be it for that distance for me. I’m going to focus on the shorter distances too. I think it’s time…
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
I have not run a full marathon and don’t think I will. Those are 2 of the biggies and a great reason to travel for sure. I have the Napa Ragnar on my bucket list for next year.
Darlene says
Have never run one and may never. But they say never say never. I don’t have the time to put into the training. Maybe if I ever retire and I’m still healthy.
I’m actually enjoying the shorter distances. it almost makes me want quit halfs.
Darlene says
Running in a foreign country does sound intriguing. I hope you reach your goal.
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
I thought I wanted to run Boston again and I probably will, just not as soon as I would like. So that’s on my bucket list. I also want to PR in the half so let’s see I’ll need a downhill race for that… hehehe 🙂
Michelle @ LivelyChicken says
The London marathon is definitely a bucket list race for me too. But I need to wait and see how my first marathon goes before committing to anymore!
Lesley says
No marathons for me either. After seeing the Star Wars medals for the Disneyland race, I’d say the 10k is on my bucket list. I know next year’s BB8 design will probably change, but it’s Star Wars!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
I have so many races on my bucket list…I’d love to do a Ragnar, the Chicago Marathon, anything in San Francisco, the list goes on!
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
I’m not sure if I want to do anymore marathons or not… I keep saying I want to stick to short races, but then I also feel like I have a little bit of unfinished business with the marathon. We’ll see how I feel after Steamtown on Sunday!
Jen @ SprinklesHikes.com says
I feel like my running bucket list changes from month to month – ha! I will say that a major goal of mine is to walk on every continent before I die, so maybe some race in Antarctica?
Juliana @ 4WellRules says
these two are on my bucket list as well! I could not stop thinking about how I want to run the London marathon after walking across the tower bridge
Kelli Wright says
I can understand the need for a break from marathon-ing, but also the interest in completing some key events. I’ve pretty much written off marathons since my back injury, although there are a lot of cool cycling events that are on my list. I had a friend that did Ridethe21 which was a charity ride that took the entire Tour de France route one week ahead of the pro tour. Huge training commitment and time off work for that, but I think it is a cool bucket list item.
Lindsey @livinglovingrunner says
I also have the Majors on my bucket list 🙂 Any international race would be a fun experience!
Sonia says
I hope you do get to run those someday…when the timing will be right!
Tricia@MissSippipiddlin says
You do have some great races on your list! Since you went last time with your daughter think you’ll carry the whole family? Thanks for the link up! I wasn’t prepared for a post but after seeing the topic I had to jump in! 😉
Teresa says
London is on our list for vacationing summer of 2018…although I won’t be even considering the marathon, it would be fun to be a spectator! Berlin would be absolutely beautiful!
Erica @ Erica Finds says
I want to do those, too! Plus Rim to Rim to Rim at the Grand Canyon. Currently targeting April for that one!
Christy says
This writing prompt has made me realize I need to work on a bucket list for races! Awesome that you will complete yours soon!
Karen says
One day you will get the itch to make those last two happen 😉
Since i am a slower runner I never really think about the marathon majors much, I do have certain states I love and I hope to get to enjoy a race in Montana one day and Colorado…a revel race is another i would love to do.
Kristen says
It would be so cool to run a race in another country! I hope you get to do London someday, that one sounds amazing!
Ilka says
These are for sure awesome marathons to run. I think it’s healthy to have goals in the back of your mind – even if you know that they might be on the back burner for a bit longer.
Thanks for the link-up Marcia! Have a great week!
Emily @ Out and About says
I hope you get to run London and Berlin soon! Do you think you’ll try to run Tokyo someday, since it’s now a WMM, too?
Marcia says
Emily when I originally set my goal to run the World Majors, there were only 5, so no, Tokyo is not on my list. Of course if the opportunity presented itself, I’d be all over it…
Angela @marathonsandmotivation.com says
I had not thought of running a marathon internationally, but the more I read your blog, the more I think it might be in my future 🙂 We were in London last February for a week and my entire family LOVED it and while I was there, I started to think how amazing it would be to do the marathon, but just a fleeting thought, so we will see. Right now, I have Ironman Lake Placid lined up for next Summer, which is a biggie on the bucket list. Then, the hubby wants to do the Dopey Challenge January 2018 as his last Distance Running Hurrah…we will see 🙂 Thanks for hosting!!
Coco says
I have a friend who just ran Berlin for the second time. Just sayin’ ….
alexandra @ my urban family says
Foreign runs sound so lovely to me <3
vicki says
London and Berlin look really awesome! Right now I’m trying to get to Houston… we’ll see where I land out on running another marathon after that 😉
Jessica S says
London and Berlin would both be worth diving into the marathon pool again!
Diana @ Live Lean Eat Green says
My first marathon was a destination race in Seattle and it made the whole experience just so much more special. Doing an international race would be AMAZING!
Sana says
I don’t have any desire to do a marathon, however I would love to do an international race!
Stacey says
Bucket list race: an Ironman!
Zenaida Arroyo says
I would love to run the Boston Marathon but that may be a while since I’ve decided no more marathons for me.
