I’m heading to Dublin, Ireland to run the RocknRoll Dublin Remix Race Series and I could not be more excited! The last time I was to Dublin was 17 years ago and I don’t think I was a runner then so I’m super pumped to see that beautiful city in my running shoes. But before I do, here’s how last week’s workouts looked:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 5x1k
Wednesday: 20 Bike + Swim
Thursday: 5 miles
Friday: Bike 10 + plyo intervals
Saturday: 10 miles
Sunday: Strength
It was a week of scrambling to get stuff done before I leave. School supplies are bought since the kids go back pretty much as soon as we return. The in-laws visited (again, help me). Oh and Thing 2 turned 11. It’s always fun to celebrate but with 3 birthdays in the span of 4 weeks, I’m ready to take a break from parties and staying up way too late. It makes getting up early to run that much more difficult.
I can’t speak for Thing 2, but I’ve been pretty good about packing. Although some decisions remain up in the air.
Here’s what I’m bringing:
Spandits: You knew I’d wear Spandits in Dublin, didn’t you? The question is which ones? Boardies? Capris? 3/4 tights?? So many options, I can’t decide! Remember SPANDITSLOVE saves you 10% off your order.
Headsweats Visor: This is a no brainer since Headsweats is the only brand of headwear I’ll wear. The jury’s out on colors here too, but I do love me some purple…just saying. Remember TEAMARCIA saves you 25% off full-price Headsweats items.
Legend Compression Socks: I will definitely be wearing Legend Compression socks on the plane to and from Dublin, as well as for recovery. To be honest, many compression socks out there are too tight for my ample runner’s calves. I don’t appreciate wrestling them on and they get downright uncomfortable, leaving impressions on my legs after awhile. This is not the case with Legend. In fact I love Legend Compression so much, I became an Ambassador. They’re on the hunt for more Ambassadors so if kinder, gentler compression is up your alley, this may be an opportunity for you. Go here to apply. Interested in trying Legend Compression socks for yourself? Code Ambfriend saves 15% off your order.
Plane Snacks. I’ll be toting a couple of my faves from NOW Foods. There’s nothing like some fruit and nut mix to keep me satisfied on long hauls. I already told you about my love for their pecans.
Inflatable Neck Pillow. Because I’m going to sleep on that friggin’ flight. I swear I am.
What I’m not taking to Dublin:
The Caveman: This is a mother-daughter trip for the teenager and I. We’re running the 5k together then I’ll run the half the following day.
Time Goals: This is a soak-it-up-and-enjoy kind of race weekend. Plus we’ve got a trekking tour of Cork planned the day before the race and we’re exploring some cliffs the day after. Can you say tired legs?
I will not be blogging from Ireland so stay tuned to the MHS Facebook page and Instagram for pics and updates.
Have you been overseas? Have you raced in a foreign country? Any packing/travel tips?
This week’s Tuesdays on the Run topic is all about the Olympics. Stop by and share your Olympic inspirations, runners your rooting for, everything is fair game!

I didn’t realize it was a mother/daughter trip — how fun! So envious.
I’ve been overseas several times, although it’s been a while. I had just begun to run the last time we went, and I stuck with treadmills that trip. Trying to figure out pace for kph really baffled me!
Have a wonderful time!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
What a wonderful trip for you and Maddie! I was hoping you would say you were bringing me, but you didn’t. I don’t even have a passport, so I don’t think it would have worked… 😛 I am going to do that tho–I need to get my birth certificate. Do you think they still have them for us old folks?
Have a wonderful trip and I’ll see you when you get back. We need to have lunch. I’ll block out a whole afternoon!
Tina@GottaRunNow says
What a great time the two of you will have! The worst part of vacations is trying not to bring too many things with me.
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
Have a great trip and enjoy the race! I visited Dublin when I studied abroad but I wasn’t really a runner then either. I would love to go back some day and run there!
Diane @runninrocker says
Oh my gosh I am so excited for you and your daughter! What a great girls getaway. Definitely take the skull leggings. I NEED those! I am looking forward to seeing your InstaPosts!!

That sounds like such a fun trip. All of my overseas trips have been to tropical islands. Not that I’m complaining. We keep cancelling plans to visit Scotland. One day. I have no packing tips. I’m a hopeless over-packer. Enjoy the races and the sightseeing! Thanks for linking, Marcia.
Coco says
You are going to have SO MUCH FUN! Your “goals” are perfect but you may surprise yourself! It sounds like you will be wearing purple!
Jennifer @ Dashing in Style says
Sounds like a fantastic destination race. Enjoy!
Darlene says
That sounds like so much fun. Can’t wait to hear all about it.

So so SOOOOO jealous. That’s all I got. Well, I’ll add that I’ve been to Cancun, but that’s it for foreign travel (and I was not a runner back then). I do try to find races when I travel to other states now. 😉

I didn’t realize it was a mother daughter trip. How fun! Enjoy and think about bringing a rain jacket……you never know!
Marcia says
Karen the raincoats and umbrellas are packed! Although now the forecast looks to be sunny and 70 mostly. I’ll take it!
Lesley says
Have fun, and good luck with the races! I’ve been to the UK, but not to Ireland. I can never sleep on planes, which means I’m really jet-lagged the first day. My brain says keep moving to stay awake, and my body is screaming for sleep.
Elle says
So excited for you as I know that this has been on your list! Can’t wait to hear all about it!
Jessie @ The Acquired Sass says
I’ve run a few destination races, and I guess this one is no different, but I would be absolutely plagued with indecision about what running outfits to bring. I would probably need a second bag just for all my options!
Running schlub says
Dublin would be awesome. Only RNR series I’ve done are Arizona and Vegas. I would love to go over seas and high some of those races.
Zenaida Arroyo says
I am so jealous of your trip! Love, love your purple socks. One of my favorite colors. And I do like Headsweats (got a hat as a ZOOMA Ambassador years ago) but not a big fan of visors. Although I read somewhere that during the summer it is better to wear a visor than a hat.
Safe travels! Have a great trip and I look forward to reading about it when you get back.

Ooh!! How exciting !! Have fun! I’m excited to see your pictures of Ireland !!

Marcia – How awesome that you get to run the Rock n Roll Series in Dublin! All those Spandits looks just too awesome – looove (!) the colors and patterns!
I always enjoy all your Running Pics on Instagram – You are such an inspiration!

My daughter and I ran Rock n Roll Dublin several years ago and absolutely loved it. We had such a fun time and were treated so well by the Rock n Roll team. The race itself is interesting as you pass many of the sights of Dublin for the half marathon. Be forewarned, my daughter lost her luggage (or rather United did) and she had three days without her stuff. Luckily she had her race gear in her carry on. Cross pack with your daughter if you are checking a bag! PS We do have race reviews and info about Dublin on our webpage if you are interested

AHHH — FUN!
I used to live in Germany, but that was before I was an endurance athlete. I kind of-really-wish I had been, because there are trails and views and races galore!<3 I LOVE your list of packing stuffs! You're going to have a blast!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I love that you’re doing this as a mother-daughter trip!
I’m also loving all those great patterns and colors on the Spandits – especially all the shades of purple…my fave! I’ve been living in my Legend leg sleeves too – just the right amount of support without the squeeze, right?
Have a great time in Dublin!!
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
I could die I am so jealous! And I think you should just head to toe purple. For the entire trip. OMG so jealous!
Mary Beth Jackson says
Sweet! a mother/daughter trip! I thought you were dragging the caveman along, well I bet your daughter will get some great pics of you crossing the finish line. Good luck Coach, can’t wait to hear all about it! Ireland is on our schedule for next year- I wonder when this race will be then……… 🙂
Karen says
I have not been overseas! I hope you have a wonderful trip 🙂 I love how colorful all your gear is. You will look awesome no matter what you put on.
I love the idea of a little gentler compression sock, I am going to check them out 🙂

Sounds like an amazing trip! I can not wait to get to explore Ireland someday soon!
I was in Dublin last summer, but only for an hour while my flight from Ethiopia to DC got more fuel. Needless to say, I will be back!
It looks like you have the perfect items packed!
Enjoy!
