Before we get to the rest of the week, here’s how the workouts went:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Strength + Yoga
Wednesday: Run 1.5 miles
Thursday: Rest
Friday:Run 6 miles + Swim
Saturday: Strength, Bike, Swim
Sunday: Run 12 Miles
SO yeah marathon training (Indy Monumental) officially started. Sort of. In a shitty way. Tuesday’s speedwork was pushed to Wednesday due to thunderstorms, but then life got in the way and a mile was all I squeezed in. I was so good about getting out before the sun in June but this week that only happened once. I had every intention of getting out at the crack of dawn for my long run Sunday, and I did. Then my fuel belt fell off. Twice. So I turned around and headed home and cracked out a hydration pack I’ve had for months but never used. Let’s just say figuring the thing out and getting it adjusted correctly took awhile. It was almost 8, with temps climbing before I finally got out. When will I learn?
It’s RnRCHI race week. I almost hope it is hot because I am sorely undertrained for a half right now. I’ll be running easy and having fun for sure.
Previously some races were excluded from my RocknBlog discount, until now! Effective immediately MarciaRocks saves you $15 on ALL RocknRoll races, including (for a limited time) Vegas!
I survived our trip to NC to spend the holiday with the in-laws. Staying at this hotel while the kids stayed with the grandparents had something to do with the success of the trip. It was a lovely respite and so great to pick up and head to our hotel when MIL got cranky (and she did). I was barely out of the car and MIL already mentioned Remy. Sigh. I’d planned to not say anything about him since none on this side of the family are “animal people” and I didn’t expect them to understand. But my SIL saw it on Facebook, apparently told everyone and topped it off with a snarky comment I did not appreciate. Is it just me or do you ever choose not to tell people things for self-preservation purposes?
Happier things:
Drink: I found this Dasani Pineapple Sparkling water at Target and had to give it a try. Because come on, pineapple. Add it to the love column.
New Driver: The teenager finished Driver’s Ed and scored 100% on her permit test. But wait there’s more: we walked out of the DMV to find someone taking their road test had crashed in the parking lot. The testing guy was waving his clipboard like mad. Yikes.
Garden: I’m one of less than a handful of people in the community garden this year. Last year’s pathetic growing season seems to have scared many away. Ironically my peas, which were so successful last year, are a total buffet for the bunnies this year. Ugh. Squash and pumpkins seem to be thriving so far. I grew peppers and tomatoes in containers on the deck to spare them from deer. So far so good.
Upcoming Races: RocknRoll Chicago is this weekend. I’ll be remixing the 5k and half. Later this month I’ll be staying up past my bedtime for the Glo-Run along with the kids and their friends. When the kids wanna race, I can’t say no! Soon after that I’ll be heading over to Ireland for RocknRoll Dublin and some remix action there as well. That one still seems surreal to me, but all plans are made. Pinch me!
What was fun for you this week? Fave veggie? Any races coming up?
This week’s Tuesdays on the Run topic is playlists. Stop by and tell us what songs motivate you. Do you choose a “theme song” for a goal race?
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
When I used to run with fuel belts I always had problems with the bottles falling out. I switched to a hydration vest and like it so much better! Glad you survived the weekend away:) Good luck in your race next weekend!
Tricia @ MissSippipiddlin says
Hey you may have something there staying in a hotel while the kids stay with the inlaws! Great idea! I would love this water! Pineapple is my newest favorite flavor so I’d be on it like white on rice!
Thanks Marcia for linking up and for reading!

The only thing we are growing is a pot of Jalapenos. And something is eating the leaves, much to PoPo’s horror. We have too many squirrels that eat our small attempts of being farmers anyway. I don’t talk to anyone outside my immediate family about running or races for fear of getting a snarky comment or stories about people who’ve ruined their knees and hips. RnR Dublin is going to be the coolest! Have fun at RnR Chicago. I hope it will be pleasantly cool. Thanks for linking, Marcia.

My tomatoes are going crazy! I’ve never had such a big producer before. It’s got to be the perfect growing season.
I’m so sad that I won’t be joining you this weekend. Can we do lunch?
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
After my disasterous attempt to grow tomatoes last year, I’m sticking to just herbs. You were smart to stay in a hotel – I purposefully avoid telling my inlaws a lot out of self-preservation. Good luck with RnR Chicago!!

Awesome post! You should try the Sparkling Ice Coconut Pineapple flavor zero calorie drink. I use it to help with sugar cravings!

I’m gonna be in your area Friday night (for the 11PM start of my 12-hour)…wish there was a way for you buzz over and run through the night with me? Too much to ask? 😉 I did the Remix in 2014 with Penny…total blast! I’d love to do it again someday. Best of luck to you!!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I love LOTS of veggies, but asparagus is at the top of the list.
We stay with my MIL when we visit. She can be annoying, but she’s not too bad. She’s not really an animal person either. My parents are, yet my mom’s comment when we lost Chester was “well, you knew this was coming”.
Yeah, mom, you knew you were going to lose my brother to cancer (before I was born), but I’m sure that’s not what you wanted to hear when he was gone. Not that I would ever say that to her.
Most people do mean well, but the ones that don’t — you just have to feel sorry for them.

I’ll be looking for you on Sunday! Good luck! That sucks about the SIL leaving a snarky comment about it. There is absolutely no room in this life for it. The death of a pet is devastating and you will never understand unless it happens to you. No gardening for me but my mother loves it. I am not a big fan of sparking water but that one looks good.

Ugh, I hate that they had snarky comments about Remy. That’s horrible. I am the same way – I don’t tell certain people things because of the way they react. I kind of hate not being my genuine self, but it’s better in the long run.
That is nuts about what happened at the DMV!!!
Lesley says
I’m so sorry about Remy! People who don’t understand really should stay quiet and let us animal lovers grieve. They’re family members, who know how to make us smile when times are tough, and are with us every day. I’m not sure I’d be able to not say anything if someone was snarky to me.
fairytales and fitness says
That’s too bad that the in laws could not be supportive of the Remy situation. There is no need for negativity or snide remarks. That just makes me angry.
Good luck with the upcoming races.
Oh, i’d love to grow a garden but I think i’d just be setting myself up for disappointment. Although, I do have a basil plant that i’ve kept alive for over a year! -M
Cassi says
Knock on wood the bunnies continue to stay out of my garden this year.
Michelle says
Ugh to the snarky comment, that is SO not cool. I had to giggle about the DMV story. Congrats to your newly permitted driver! I don’t grow anything, as it ends up dying, LOL!! I’m a total black thumb.
Ana says
Wow! You have so many fun races coming up!! How awesome! I am very excited for you!
MIL can be so difficult to deal with, but I like your plan of staying at a hotel when visiting! I’m sorry to hear that she had to make a snarky comment!
Karen @ Fit in France says
I didn’t realize that Dublin was so soon ! Exciting. I have no races before September. They really taper off in the summer so I don’t have many choices. But also because I am now in training mode, I prefer to train and run what is on my schedule rather than race.
I have never heard of a glow race….
Karen says
I know all about that self preservation thing. You gotta do what gotta do.
You could use some fun, I sure hope the half is enjoyable for ya!
The Glo run with your girls should be a blast 🙂 and Dublin- please share all the pics!
Mary Beth Jackson says
I am soooooo Dublin jealous! That is going to be so cool! Yea, let’s not talk about in-laws, must they act like aliens- ugg! I like the hotel idea, very clever!!!! I need to look for that water- you know I am all about the pineapple which seems to be one of the only things growing!
Darlene says
So sorry about Remy.
GL with your training! You’re a pro by now LOL.
Dublin will be awesome.
We are away so often on the weekends that I only have some patio tomato plants.
Thelma says
Seriously, is it time to train for Indy already? Nope, nope, nope….not going to listen.
So unfair you’re going to Dublin w/o me…and Tara. I’m sure we’d be banned from returning to the country again though.
Good luck this weekend, Lou. Why do they hold races in Chicago in July???
