Before I get to the weekly shenanigans, here’s how my workouts went:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Bike 7 miles, Run 3 miles
Wednesday: Evolution Cycle 20 miles
Thursday: Swim 825 yds
Friday: Run 4 miles, swim 1000 yds
Saturday: Strength
Sunday: Run 6 miles
Let’s start with some great news then we’ll get to some pool jazz: My 10-day layoff from running seems to have done the trick for my ornery hip. It’s been feeling perfectly fine all week. I’m back being vigilant with hip strengthening exercises. All of my peroneal tendon issues seem to be gone as well. Can I get a boomshakalaka? I’ve also extended my plank-a-day challenge another month and added in pushups for fun. Find all the details on the MHS Facebook page.
I told you over coffee what a chaotic, stressful week it was. How stressed I am about my tri.
Then this happened
Life has a way of coming full circle. I was at the pool doing some laps in preparation for this week’s tri (noooo!) and I came up for air to find someone standing on deck at the foot of my lane. The chlorine may be getting to me but I swear it was Jamie Dornan’s doppleganger. When I looked up he said “Mind if I share your lane?” You may remember all my stories about the heinous, rude swimmers I encountered at Masters Swim last year and how they cursed at me and collided with me when I had to share lanes. Putting it bluntly, I’m scarred by these incidents. I don’t share lanes very well. I’m kind of all over the place. But how could I say no? So in he jumped. Then he eyed my new Garmin 920XT aka The Inquisitor and said “Tell me all about that Garmin”. Honestly I barely know how to use it but I do love it so I told him so. And then I had to get away. So swim I did, trying desperately (and sometimes failing) to keep to my own side (and not hyperventilate). Finally after 200 yds, I could take it no more. I just couldn’t share a lane. Not even with Jamie Dornan in his oh so clingy speed suit. So out I jumped, gathered my things and took refuge in the sauna before he could swim back to the end of the lane (as if he’d beg me to stay). After all the mean swimmers I’ve encountered, he couldn’t have been nicer. I’m thinking it’s a sign from the universe that all is going to be just fine come tri day next Sunday. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Was your week crazy? Any encounters with dopplegangers? Did you race?
I’m linking up with Holly and Tricia for the Weekly Wrap.
This week’s Tuesdays on the Run topic is Race Gear: Are you a hoarder or a minimalist? Join us!

Nice that the Universe chose to send a hot hunk to give you the message through. Way to go Universe.
fairytales and fitness says
Glad that your hip pain has subsided.
Sadly I have no idea who Jamie Dornan is.
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I guess I don’t know who Jamie Dornan is but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to run next to him, much less share a lane. Woo! And you went into the sauna? GF, you needed a cold shower for sure! LOL!
Pretty sure you are ready for your tri! See you Thursday…if I remember… :p
Darlene says
Gossip Girl & 50 shades of Grey, right?
You are gong to rock your TRI. It’ll be a breeze compared to swimming next to JD.
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
I wouldn’t want to share a lane with anyone! I think I had to once when I was attempting to swim last year and it was definitely intimidating. Glad all your injuries have disappeared!
Darlene says
Oops I meant One Tree Hill.
Kimberly Hatting says
Not sure I know the Jamie dude…now, if were my boy, Jon Bon Jovi…..((sigh)))…Sorry, what were we talking about? 😉
Sonia says
Wow. What a doppelgänger to encounter! He does sound nice, but I’m so bummed that you had those awful experiences with swimming. I really can’t stand recreational athletes who are so blind-sided by the pursuit of whatever that they can’t share the road or the lanes (i’ve encountered so many rude bikers). I hope our tri goes well!
Kayla says
Thankfully I haven’t had to share a lane yet. I did wait a couple minutes one time for a lane to open up so I wouldn’t have to. I’m way to slow and take too many breaks to share a lane lol. Good luck this week! You’ll do great. You are ready 🙂
Pam says
How fun to have a hot guy ask to share your lane. I totally understand the whole sharing lane thing. I doubt I will ever be brave enough to do a tri, but I certainly love to bike and swim as cross training. Hope you have a wonderful race this week and glad your hip is feeling much better.
HoHo Runs says
I don’t even feel lane worthy! But I think someone was very impressed with your skills! You will do great at the Tri. There’s no need for a sign. Thanks for supporting the WW!
Heather says
You’re gonna rock that tri!
I had to read the comments to figure out your cute doppelganger. Still sounds fun ;D
Savannah @ A Hoosier in Colorado says
Amazing man candy!! Looks like you a great week of workouts!
Lesley says
The tri’s here already? At least he was nice and not like the cranks you’ve dealt with.
Jody - Fit at 58 says
I was trying to read your post but I kept going back to the pic!!! 🙂
Jennifer @ Dashing in Style says
Ha! Love that story! Sounds like a setup for a women’s erotic novel, ha ha! Good luck in your tri!
Adrianna Holbrook says
Where are you located? Jamie is currently in Vancouver, BC filming Fifty Shades Darker & Freed
Adrianna Holbrook says
Did he have a northern Irish accent???? That would be a dead giveaway. Also a noticeable freckle above his left eyebrow.
Michelle says
LOL, not sure who that is, but if it’s the guy you posted a pic of, YUM. hehehe
Mary Beth Jackson says
LOL! Sweet! and what a messager! I’d say all is right with the world!
Tamieka says
I literally just spit out my lunch reading this..too funny!!
I have found that some swimmer are so rude. I usually stay in the smaller ‘rec’ side of the pool . I tend to share a lane with a swim teacher teaching young kids to swim…works out perfectly!
In a meeting recently I swear one of the gentleman looked like a Ken doll!! I wish I could attach a picture (yes I took a picture..it was so unreal)
Sharon says
Lol nice! Glad to hear your hip is better! Good luck in your tri next week!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I did race. You can read about it tomorrow. 🙂
Almost sounds like you were dreaming — a good dream! And happy dance for a hip cooperating with you.
I hate sharing lanes. I’m so sloooooow. I’m actually hoping to go swimming Wednesday, but I just made an appt for Lola I’ve been putting off so I’m not sure. I really need that cross training!
Emily @ Out and About says
Sadly, I had to google who Jamie Dornan was! If the guy at the pool looked anything like that picture, though, hot damn! Yay for the universe giving you such a positive sign about your upcoming tri. You are going to rock it out, as you always do!
Pete B says
Great story! Good luck at your tri!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I have no idea who Jamie Dornan is, but I think I’d have a hard time concentrating on my breathing sharing a lane with him! LOL! You’re going to do great on Sunday 🙂
Jenn says
That’s insane! I probably would have choked on the pool water!
I’m sorry you’ve run into so many rude people while swimming. That’s so unfortunate, and it makes me kind of glad that I don’t have a nearby lap pool so I don’t have to deal with that nonsense.
You are going to be great with your tri!
Diane @runninrocker says
You just reminded me that I still need to see the movie! I would have asked him if I could count laps for him 🙂 And yes, here’s a boomshakalaka for you now tame hip. That’s great news. Happy Tri-Training!!
Phaedra @ Blisters and Black Toenails says
I used to be the same way about sharing lanes, but then I joined a masters group and had to get used to having other people around me. It freaked me out a bit a first but now I’m used to it. It was definitely helpful in terms of getting used to having people around you in a triathlon! Good luck with your tri! I”m looking forward to reading your re-cap on that!
Tricia @ MissSippipiddlin says
You centanily may get a Boom-Shakalaka!! Great news on your hip issue!
I fell off the regular plank challenge but I got in push ups several times. Not many, but some.
And that is quite the story, wow I can only imagine. 😉 I do believe though your race is going turn out better than expected Marcia!
Karen @ Fit in France says
You mean you can actually have your own lane ? There are always 4 to 6 people per lane. I hate it but I do it. People are pretty respectful and go around each other if not swimming at the same pace. I have never once been kicked, but I try to avoid the splashers.
Debra @HappyRunningSole says
For a minute there I felt like I was getting into a steamy romance novel. If you have to share your lane at least it was with someone who was nice to look at. Good luck with your tri! You’re going to do great!
