Running and milestones kind of go hand-in-hand. Running is hard. Training takes discipline and sacrifice. So when we run a new distance, or stick with a training plan for months, finish a challenging race or PR, we need to celebrate, right?
2017 will be the 10th anniversary of my first half and full marathons. Kind of a big deal, right? I’ve been thinking of ways to commemorate it.
Run a bucket list race. We all have those BHAG (big, hairy audacious goal) races hanging around in the back of our minds. For me this is something international. In Europe specifically. It’s no secret I’m on a quest to complete the Marathon Majors and I’ve got the domestic ones done so London and/or Berlin would be an awesome way to celebrate 10 years of running crazy.
Run a race series. Disney, RocknRoll and the Flying Pig 3-way are all great options. I’ll be remixing this summer at RocknRoll Chicago (a 4th time!) and RocknRoll Dublin. Use the discount code above and join me!
Racecation. I love me some racecation action. In fact I’ve got not one but two scheduled with BRF’s this fall. I’ve also been eyeing a running cruise. In Alaska. How much fun would that be?
Revisit the race that started it all. You know, a race down memory lane. For me that’s my first half marathon, the March Madness Half (the hardest, hilliest sucker I’ve ever run) and the Chicago Marathon (the hottest marathon I’ve ever run, and was cancelled when I was at mile 22). Spoiler alert: I’m not planning to celebrate with either of these.
Fun new gear. Because we love it. We NEEEEED it. And it’s always a great (relatively inexpensive…maybe) way to reward hard work. I may have indulged in yet another shipment of Spandits. The patterns are irresistible. Right now Boardies and 1/2 tights are $10 off with code SPLASHINTOSUMMER. Remember SPANDITSLOVE saves you 10% off your order. Tell them Marcia sent you!
What running milestones are you working toward? How will you celebrate?
I’m linking up with Courtney, Mar and Cyn for the Friday Five

Good luck with your quest of completing the Marathon Majors! I have done all the domestic ones done as well. My next milestone will hopefully be at the RnR Chicago next month as I try to break my half PR. I dropped 14 minutes off of my half PR 6 years ago and have only really started getting close to touching it last year.

The spandits are the best colors!!
I like the idea of running bucket race or just doing one for fun after you hit a PR or run a new distance…
Pizza and drinks may be a fun way to celebrate with some run buddies 🙂

I think it is important to celebrate milestones and these are all great ways to do it ! I would like to try spandits but am a bit nervous about it being tight around the waist. How do they size ?
Have a great weekend.

All great ways to celebrate a running milestone!! Would love to run in London too as a bucket list race. My next milestone will be the Chicago marathon, for my first 26.2. Not sure how I’ll celebrate yet, but you have given me some great ideas. 🙂

All good ways to celebrate.
Yes a running cruise sounds awesome.
An race-cation does. See you December?

How about a race-cation in the corn-filled state of Iowa? Not too far to travel, and the runners here are very friendly (and the do planks routinely). I’ve gotta get me some spandits!!!
Stacey says
So many great ways to celebrate a big milestone-I’d go with a race-cation and some new gear–haha but do we really need a reason to get new gear?!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I like the idea of a race-cation – always a good way to celebrate! I think your quest to run all the majors is a great goal!

New run gear? Yes please! That’s definitely a milestone to celebrate. Congrats on the accomplishment Marcia!
Thanks for sharing with the Fitness Health & Happiness community. Have a great weekend!

We have gone back to our first half marathon, Disney Princess Half, many times because we love it and its nostalgic for us. Can’t wait to see where you race for your 10th anny! 🙂

I’ve actually done a cruise to Alaska. I wonder what all would be involved in the “running cruise”, besides gorgeous places to run of course.
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
You’ve got some great races on your calendar this year–Dublin anyone? I’m on the fence about RnR Chicago and I will let you know what I decide so we can go together. Actually, let’s see what my foot decides.

Congrats on your 10 yr milestone!
I love a racecation!
My milestone this year: trainig for and completing my 1s sprint triathlon.

To me bucket list races are the same as racecations because there’s no bucket list race that I want to do here at home – I’ve already done the good ones close by. 2017 will be my year for a big bucket list race. New York here I come.

Congrats 10 years is huge! You have some great plans ? The Alaska racecation sounds super cool! We need more details on that! I like the idea of an international race too & well new gear is always the bomb!

I almost did the Alaskan Running Cruise last summer. Seriously, I came very close to it! Maybe we need a blogger meetup there. 🙂
I hadn’t thought about marking 10 years after my first half . . . but i have 5 years to go on that. I didn’t do anything for my 10th half, didn’t even really think about it.
Tricia @ MissSippipiddlin says
Whoa and Alaskan Running Cruise man that sounds awesome! That would be a destination race for sure!

I think I am going to buy myself an Erica Sara necklace to commemorate NYC, my 5th marathon, and first one in 2.5 years.
