Ffffrozen. That’s the word that describes me right now, since we arrived home from our spring break trip to find that our furnace was done with winter but Mom Nature was not. It’s 28 degrees outside and 55 degrees in here as I type and I am thankful for my trusty Thermoball. But we’re not talking about broken furnaces, no we’re not. This week’s Tuesdays on the Run topic is Your Running Right Now, described in ONE word.
Hmmmm…..just one? So many words come to mind. But I’ll narrow it down…and choose one.
Ok my running right now is Freestyle.
Freestyle because running is not my focus right now. It hasn’t been my focus all year. My focus has been on weightloss…..and swimming…..and strength training….and a strained back….and a broken furnace and…oh wait, scratch the last two…those are not focal points but more like gnats in my face.
My running has been consistent but definitely more of a side dish lately. Kind of like a thing you don’t pay much attention to because it’s not a squeaky wheel. I’m not on a formal training plan per se but rather kind of winging it. I’ve been running long enough to know what I need to do and when. I’ll follow a triathlon training plan and after that I’ll get on a plan for the Indy Monumental Marathon this fall, but for now? Freestyle it is. And I like it.
What one word describes your running lately?
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
It’s cold in here (temps in the teens outside) & our furnace works! I hope that’s the last of your bad luck & things get back to normal soon.
Now apparently I’ve got to think about a word for next week since I screwed up this week’s topic!
LaChicaRuns says
Freestyle? I like it. I have done it before (after big goal races) but didn’t have a word for it. We in the Michigan tundra feel your pain about the furnace. Brrr… Just got back from a run m’self where it was 19 degrees.
I need to move to Miami. I may make that my life goal. 😉
Take care and stay warm, chica.
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I like freestyle. Hopefully, I’ll be doing some of that this summer. I’m saving my word for tomorrow’s Wednesday Word post, which is brave. Or foolish. I’m going with brave for now…
I hope you have heat! Brrrrr!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Oh sorry about the furnace! It really would help if Ma Nature would just let it go – I’m staring at multiple inches of snow right now!
I like the sound of Freestyle!
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
I love being in freestyle mode! Yesterday and today were freestyle runs for me. Just go out and run 5 “la la la” miles around my hood for no reason other than I felt like RUNNING. I have a 1/2 marathon at the end of the month, and then after that I will be in FULL freestyle mode until I need to start training for my fall marathon.
Michelle @ LivelyChicken says
I’ve also been in freestyle mode all winter, but now I’m finding that I need more structure to my running. My motivation has just been so low the past few weeks. Hopefully starting a training plan will help keep me on track with my weekly mileage.
Lesley says
I like that term. I freestyle in the summer a lot because there’s no way I want to build in that heat. I consider summer my off season so I focus on other aspects.
Jenn @ RunWithSole says
I think it’s great you’re just winging it now! It probably feels great to just do your own thing. And I really really hope you get your furnace back on soon!! Sending warm thoughts your way!
Leana says
I hope you are able to get your furnace repaired soon! That can’t be a good way to come home from vacation!
If I have one word to describe my running lately it is hilly! I’ve been on a mission to run hills lately to prep for hilly IM 70.3 St. George. Fun stuff!!
Darlene says
I like your word. It makes me think of ice skating and I love to watch ice skating. Gracie Gold is my fave.
My word was HOPEFUL. After a long sluggish winter, I am hoping for more consistent and faster paces.
Pete B says
Freestyle is the way I go when I’m not training for anything specific. It’s a good time to just run for fun and keep my base going!
Patty says
Get warm today, girl! Brrrrr… Freestyle. I like it. That’s what my summer is going to look like (I hope!)
vicki says
Freestyle… awesome! Looking forward to a few “freestyle” months myself after this training cycle.
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
It’s nice when you can enjoy running as a side dish! This weather is awful, I’m shivering at my desk at work. There were flurries this morning! It’s just crazy, lol.
lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
I feel like I am always winging it and for some reason it all works out. Consistency is is good.
Emily @ Out and About says
Freestyling is a good thing. You are a very experienced runner, and you definitely have plenty of other priorities to tend to ahead of running right now. When the time comes, I have no doubt that you’ll know exactly what to do to prepare for your target races. I hope things work out quickly with the furnace, the back tweak, and your daughter’s ankle!!!
Juliana @ 4 Well Rules says
that is cold! It is pretty warm here in LA-high in the 80s today (but it is in mid 50s in the morning so getting to work is interesting haha)
and i love the word freestyle!
Sonia says
I’m freestyling too, in a sense. Loosely following a plan. It’s great. Glad your running is consistent, but I’m sorry that’s it’s so cold. I’ll send sunshine and warmth your way.
Tricia@MissSippipiddlin says
I like freestyle, makes me think of swimming, not that I’ve been doing any of that, but that is what I think of. My word is frequent! Which does describe my running here lately! Jumping in late today but hey better late than never. Life happened yesterday, I know you know all about that! #bloggerproblems Have a great Tuesday Marcia!
Jennifer Lefforge says
LOVE it! It sounds happy and FUN. And sounds like you need some of BOTH right now!
HoHo Runs says
I think freestyle is good. I’ve got no formal plan either…just race, race, and race. LOL.
Runaway Bridal Planner says
First I am sending positive vibes your way, you are more than due for better luck to start happening! So sorry about the furnace problems.
Freestyle, I love that word for running. I wouldn’t of thought of it myself, but what a perfect way to put it for your current training situation!
Jessica S says
I love “side dish” – that’s a great way to describe it! There for you when you want it, but not the main attraction. 🙂 Little breaks are good, mentally.
Tamieka says
It’s April and I am wearing a wool turtle neck and a down jacket!! Ridiculous!!
Freestyle…I like it.
I am reducing my running with coined focus o weight training and then transitioning into pre Triathlon training in late Spring.
Rachel says
I have to admit. I kinda wish my running were in Freestyle right now, too. I love training for stuff but I’m getting burnt out. I totally blame the weather because I’m so tired of running in the cold!
Hope your furnace gets fixed soon… xxoo
Char says
I was just saying to a friend the other day that my running is loosely scheduled these days. I was on a program for years and since leaving the group I’ve written my own but if someone wants to do something different on a particular day I’m down with that. It’s not so rigid any more and I’m enjoying it more. I’m still running a lot but it’s on my terms.
MCM Mama Runs says
Great word choices. I need to make running not number one after this current challenge I’m doing. My body would like it if I did some other workouts.
