I haven’t mentioned Operation Drop 10 lbs. (#OpDrop10) around here in a bit but that doesn’t mean I’m not still plugging away. The truth is, opinions on how to lose weight fly around the internet like a swarm of rabid gnats. Can gnats have rabies? Doubt it. Anyway you know what I mean. I’ve been at this weightloss thing for over two months now. I just don’t always feel like talking about it.
Anywho, I was down 5 lbs before I came down with the plague last week. I’m down 7 now, but plague-induced weightloss doesn’t count. It doesn’t, right? A raging fever has its rewards, I guess.
What’s Working for Weightloss:
Logging food. I continue to do this, during the week anyway.
Limit added sugar. Sweets used to be a daily thing. Now they’re rare. Who have I become?
Cut the crap. With Thing 1 eating better for track, she’s asked me not to buy chips. No chips in the house = fantastic for me.
Protein with every meal.
Eat more in the morning. I’m finally eating a better/bigger breakfast, my go-to is half a whole-wheat english muffin topped with avocado and an egg. Very satisfying.
Eat less at night. My dinners have been much smaller. I’m really listening to my body and STOPPING when I’m full. I was one of those clean plate people before.
Healthy Fats. Like I said, avocado plays a starring role in my life. I’ve been cooking alot with coconut oil. I don’t make my protein bites without it.
Recently I created something new in the test kitchen. This chocolaty, chewy, “recovery fudge” satisfies all my cravings plus packs a protein punch to keep me satisfied.
The combo of dark chocolate and tart, dried cherries is not only delicious, but a great source of antioxidants, which is so important for endurance athletes. I love grabbing a square or two of this fudge post-run and you can rest assured I’ll be taking some along as a plane snack when we head out for spring break. You can make this in a pan and cut into squares or roll the dough into balls. It’s delicious either way!

Good for you!! As you probably know, the slower you lose the weight, the easier it will be to keep it off 😉 And those dark chocolate goodies…..Oh my!!

You know, the Internet can actually derail weight loss because I want to try all.the.recipes! I’m not real good at coming up with them, but I’m good at following them! And this one sounds like a must try.
No, sickness weight loss doesn’t stick around, sadly. It sure feels like it ought to! But generally it’s all water weight. I just spoke with my sister last night and she’s been sick a couple of weeks & was totally convinced she was having a gallbladder flareup.
I tried to talk her down, and indeed, the dr. said it’s just a really bad flu/virus and has to run its course.
Feel better! You really are doing great. Slow and steady = permanent weight loss.
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
Good job Marcia! I knew you were still working hard even though you weren’t always talking about it. I am sure you think about it a lot so then blogging about it would just be over the top! But thanks for the update and keep going! You got this.

I love reading all of your tips and tricks. I need to drop the 10 pounds I gained over the winter (yikes!) and will be incorporating some of your tips, especially protein at every meal. I’m a carb-a-holic so I need to get over my card cravings first!
fairytales and fitness says
Good for you for cutting out the extra sugar! As much as I love chips, I never buy them so i’m not tempted to eat them. All the junks food I eat like chips, and peanutbutter cups etc, I eat at my parents house..lol
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
Great job, Marcia! Slow but steady will keep it off.
Glad you are feeling better! Now it’s my turn…ugh…on the couch today. Does running to the bathroom multiple times count as speedwork?
alexandra @ my urban family says
Why would plague-induced weightloss not count? haha Great job though! And glad to hear you’re feeling better.
Tricia@MissSippipiddlin says
I’m glad to read your feeling better. We should get something out of being sick right? No major changes for me but I’m trying to watch the carbs at night more.

I am also trying to lose some weight. I would be happy with 10 or 20 lbs! But so far I am down 8 lbs and I just keep going up and down. Logging my meals on my fitness pal helps a lot!
Karen @ Fit in France says
Good for you. As they say… if you want to change something long term, you need to change something. Or something like that ! Anyway, small baby steps… you get the idea.
I find when I have a smaller dinner at night I wake up STARVING.
Yes to lots of protein and I am a total avocado addict.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Great job Marcia! I so need to take a page from your book and track what I eat – I’m making process but s-l-o-w-l-y!
Michelle says
Great job lady!!! You are doing great!!!
With my added stress these last couple weeks, I’ve have added weight loss, so I take that as my silver lining. I would like to lose at least 4 more lbs, but we shall see! My favorite snack is anything with protein. Trail mix from Aldi has been my new go-to.
nicole says
Great job. It’s not easy losing weight. I am sorry to hear that you were not feeling well. I am glad to hear you are feeling better
Emily @ Out and About says
Chocolate and cherry is one of my favorite food combos! Losing weight is really, really hard. If it were easy, we would all look like swimsuit models. I am all about healthy fats, too – your breakfast of the whole-wheat English muffin with egg and avocado sounds delicious. I like to put guacamole on everything I can, as well. Hoping you are back to 100% soon, if not already!

You know I get you Marcia!!!! I am with you!!! I remember when I got a really bad flu one year. I lost 7 pounds in 4 days! Yup, it came back. 🙂 Glad you are feeling better!! That recipe looks amazing!!!!!

I deleted your email by mistake but YES! You know I write about what you wrote to me & do get flack.
Runaway Bridal Planner says
Your doing awesome!
I wish being sick weight loss stayed off, I’ve never had that luck:)
Love all your doing! I’m on my own weight loss program/goals right now and it’s been tough, I am finding diet has pretty much 80% to do with it, like you I’ve increased my protein each meal and it’s helped quite a bit.
Good luck, no doubt you’ll hit your goal soon!
Char says
Well done. It’s tough to lose weight so I applaud anyone who achieves their goals.
Mary @ Fit and Fed says
Chocolate cherry is one of my favorites and this is exactly the kind of snack I need! Pinned it to make later. I’m with you on that ‘lose 10#,’ so annoying when I’ve been building my strength in PT all year, plus skating. Not sure why I gained weight besides the obvious: eating a lot. And perhaps also my age.
Kelli says
Congrats Marcia, That is great progress! I’m still struggling…I get into a streak of logging food but then something derails me and I go nuts. Business travel last week and this upcoming week – this will be a challenge. Keep up the great work, girl!! It’s not easy but you’ve got the good habits down!
