The first Saturday of March means its time to sit down and have coffee with Coco, Deb,Β LyndaΒ and you!
If we were having coffee…
No doubt I’d be sipping it from my new San Francisco Starbucks mug from Erica.
I’d tell you how proud I am of Thing 1 and the way she’s busting her tail on her high school track team. She’s SO not a morning person yet she’s been a star about getting to her 5:45am practices. I am amazed, yet not surprised, she was put on the Varsity team as a freshman and has been killing all of her races at meets so far. Lots of proud mama moments here lately.
I’d tell you I heard a woman complaining at the front desk at the gym the other day that 2 hours of free child care wasn’t enough time because she needed to work out and then make her calls. It made me think back to when my kids were little enough to use the child care facility. Inevitably I’d be just getting my yoga mat rolled out when one of the day care girls would be tapping on the yoga studio window with one of my screaming babies in tow. I remember those days being so long. Now, years later, college around the corner, I realize that while your kids will always be “yours”, we only really “have” them for 18 years. When you put 18 years in perspective relative to a lifetime, it’s really not that long. Cherish it.
Don’t be fooled. We’re still under snow cover here. The garden won’t look like this for another couple months.Β
I’d tell you I’m excited to get going on our garden for another year. Since I haven’t gotten a single tomato for the past 2 years out in the community garden (aka the deer buffet) I’m going to try those in containers on our deck.
I’d tell you that, bless his heart, the Caveman is on board with my RocknRoll Dublin plan. It will be contingent on finding decently priced flights, but he’s scoping. Since gas prices dipped so nicely recently, airfares are bound to drop a little too, right? Please?
I’d also invite you to use my discount code MarciaRocks so I can see you at ALL THE RocknRoll RACES!
Your turn: What would you tell me over coffee? Did you enter my giveaways here and here?

I am sooooooo excited for gardening too. Last year was my first year and I did small raised beds, but had a pretty darn good turn out for being a total newbie. This year I have some ideas for improvements and different stuff I want to grow. I’ve been longingly cruising the seed catalogs and trying to decide my plans.

That’s awesome that your daughter’s been killing it at the track! Varsity as a freshman is a big deal! And I so know what you mean about the years going too fast – we’ll soon be planning my oldest son’s high school class schedule. Can’t wrap my head around it!
Yay for Dublin. I so want to find a way to make that race work but family schedules may collide. Hopefully you’ll find a good deal.

Dublin – wow!! That’s great that you can share your love of running with your daughter. My stepson ran track but I was not a runner at the time.
Lynda@fitnessmomwinecountry says
Okay I am envious of anyone who can garden and has a garden. This gal has a brown thumb. Our daughter is in 8th grade and has been running track and cross country for the past 3 years. I can’t wait for high school and her taking it on then. I am hoping it is more of a serious workout than in middle school. That is awesome, being placed on the varsity team. Love it. Thanks for the coffee today. π
Laura@Fit Running Mama says
Really a woman was complaining that 2 hours wasn’t enough? I’m lucky to get an hour to myself on the weekends and 30 minutes during the week! Are you doing the Schaumburg 1/2 in May? I can’t wait to get my garden going!! Soo ready for spring and summer.
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I’d be crying if we were having coffee and you started talking about the short time we have with our kids. I worked this morning, I was quintuple booked, and hauled ass to get to Matthew’s gymnastic meet–only to walk in after he had just finished his event. I thought I was going to cry.
Bad mom award again. Man, it’s tough! Glad you get it.
Seriously jealous about RnR Dublin!
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
ooh RnR Dublin? How cool! Maybe one day! Look at your daughter go-I love it! I would love to have my own garden but I am not a green thumb. I feel like as a vegetarian I should learn:) Thanks for joining us for coffee today. Always great to have you!
Kelli says
Very cool about RnR Dublin! My hubby and I went to Dublin a few years ago. We spent a few days in the city and then took the train to Cork and made our way up the west coast from one BnB to another. It was a lovely trip! And I hear ya on the garden/deer problem. My hubby is plotting what type of enclosure he needs to build for a vegetable garden this year.

That Starbucks mug looks so different from the one I just bought. I thought the travel mugs were supposed to look similar.. Cool! Dublin. What do you think about Savannah? You are making me all misty eyed about the kids leaving the nest. I’m right there, you know. I guess if they CAN leave the nest, we did something right. That’s what I’m telling myself.

Dublin is going to be amazing! OMG on that woman. I would think the gym childcare is for working out, not whatever she needs to do on her phone! I always was impressed by how committed my son was to his sports teams – I give credit to the coaches who inspire them too. Congrats on your daughter making varsity as a freshman – that’s huge,
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
Oh man I had a coffee date with one of my friends today and it was soooo needed. We had a blast. I hope you can find some good flights and can run Dublin!
Tricia @ MissSippiPiddlin says
Wow awesome job for your daughter an the dedication she has 5:45 is early even for morning people. Yes to lower air fares! Is your discount good for any RnR race? Id still love to do savannah. π

Dublin sounds amazing!! Hopefully it works out for you. Things are starting to get closer to spring here, hopefully the snow is all gone for you soon! π

I strangely love stalking flight deals. I’ll keep an eye out for you too! Right now I’m seeing $823 (on Virgin/BA) in Aug, $962 AA. There was a deal last June Chi-Dub for $500, hopefully it comes back around for you!

over our coffee.i’d tell you that im trying to do a herb garden AGAIN this year..i am very bad at it and keeping my fingers crossed this season.
Barrie says
An international race sounds amazing and in Dublin- so wonderful! I had to laugh and do appreciate your insight about the kids getting older and taking the time now to cherish the short time we have together…my kids have NEVER stayed in the gym child watch without at least one interruption in my workouts, so I just suck it up and go before they wake up! I am so not a morning person, but it’s the only way…then I don’t worry about it later and can spend time with them~ It is going by fast!
