How can a whole month have passed since I took on my Operation Drop 10 weightloss initiative? What is it they say? The days are long but the years are short. In this case the month was short.
Even though the scale (aka the Inquisitor) didn’t smile so favorably on me, I feel like I did pretty great until this past week when I fell off the wagon. Who am I kidding? There was no fall. It was a totally intentional dismount. With a double-twist and a stuck landing. Ok maybe not that last part.
“They” say it takes 21 days to form a new habit but I beg to differ. After a 23-day food logging streak (unprecedented for me) my body said “ok that was nice now let’s get back to our usual, shall we?”
Weightloss is a challenge on weekends
Dear friends visited over the weekend.
We had glorious, delicious food.
I shunned the call of the Belgian waffle and went with this more protein-rich dish at brunch. But see what lurked way up in the right corner? Sigh. Is it any wonder I wasn’t logging food? The thing is I’m not sorry. No regrets at all. If an occasional pancake (stack) with friends is wrong, I don’t wanna be right. It’s the crappy, scrappy mindless junk that’s so not worth it. This totally was.

Pffft yeah the boobs are always the first to go….now I’ve got guns instead. Whatevs.
You’ll be relieved to know I’ve since reboarded the food-logging wagon because although it may not seem like it, I really DO WANT and need to drop some weight if I’m going to get back to a sub-2 half. I will keep chugging along.
On another note: Huge dance party going on here for this!
I’ve been named to the Rock n Blog team for another year! Seriously I almost melted into a quivering puddle of electrolytes. I’m so excited to be your source for all Rock n Roll Series goodness and discounts. Stay tuned!
Do you find that habits stick after 21 days? Tips for reboarding the wagon?
I’m linking up with Amanda for Thinking Out Loud Thursday.

I have a really hard time consistently logging food. And I rarely log on the weekends. Too scary. Good for you for making it 23 days and getting right back on track after a few days off.
Becky @ Ok, So Here's the Plan says
I haven’t found a certain length of time that makes habits stick. No matter how long I have a habit, I can stop it pretty much whenever…
I think all habits require some amount of effort to maintain them, even if the effort is just thinking about why you want to have the habit in the first place.
Tricia @ MissSippiPiddlin says
Why are our boobs the first to go dang leave them take this nice fatty area between my thighs. Ahhhh progress is progress. So do you feel deprived? I think doing a habit you can maintain is far better than trying to go cold turkey. Who even likes cold turkey anyway?? Way to keep plugging along. 🙂

It’s so upsetting that boobs always go down first! I used that as an excuse (mostly kidding, but part of me wasn’t haha) when I said I didn’t want to lose weight because my boobs would shrink and it would just make my stomach look even larger instead of the intended goal.

One slip off the wagon isn’t going to hurt you! You’ve got to have fun right?
Keep up the good work. Maybe we shouldn’t go to Panera next week–bread, carbs…

Keep up the good work. We’ll have to pick somewhere with healthy choices for our lunch next week. That kind of rules out Panera, right?
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
My tip is don’t look at it as falling off the wagon. You ate some really yummy food that may not be the ideal food for weight loss. It’s not like you’re never going to eat the yummy food again! Eating an occasional meal like that is what is going to keep you going. Otherwise you will feel deprived! One meal like that doesn’t erase hard work. You’re good, Marcia!!! 🙂

Congrats on being a Rocknblogger (we already knew you were a rockin’ blogger).
You lost weight ever.single.week — I can never do that! And yes, at our age, it rarely comes off fast. But you’re seeing a really nice, steady weight loss.
I say you rock!

A while ago I completely changed my lifestyle and dropped about 45 pounds, a good amount by accident (I met my non-snacking husband). I found that eating strict M-F and then indulging on the weekends (within reason, I mean.. don’t go eat a whole cake.) was really the key for me in keeping my happiness/ sanity whilw losiing weight!
Elle says
Forgive and forget and carry on! Drink extra water! I am dying to know what you are using to measure your body fat losses and muscle gains???
Emily says
Weight loss is such a discipline, and I’m glad that you have done a month! Don’t give up. And don’t get focused on the down days.

The boobs are always the first to go:/ Love following your progress! Keep it up!!

You’ve got to be able to still enjoy life every once in a while. If your diet is too strict for that it’s definitely not going to be sustainable in the long term. Letting yourself relax with it when there’s good reason is important. And what better reason than time with good friends that you haven’t seen in a while.

my typical week is a one meal that’s indulgent and one dessert a week. that way, i still get treats, but in moderation and i don’t find myself wishing i had more. (granted the pre-lent thing is not my norm). If i don’t buy it, I don’t eat and i do my best to pack meals and make dinners we can eat for lunch the next day or again for dinner. but i’m with you, if i’m with friends, i do what you do- enjoy but pick the best option i can!! life is too short!

Great job dropping 2 pounds. My month has not gone so well, I have been done and then back up.

We’ll blame Karen for this one!!
OMG, I am drooling over those enchiladas. They have been part of my childhood and whenever Karen comes to visit, she always brings them for me. I could have ate 30 of ’em that night.
Love the pic!! 🙂
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
You lasted a lot longer on the food-logging band wagon than I ever had. I know it’s suppose to help – just can’t get myself there. You had weightloss every week which to great!
Karen says
Why does it have to be so hard?! I completely went off the rails the past three days. I jumped too. I have been at my “goal” so many times the past few years, only to lose it almost right away. I always gain it back. I have not been able to master the discipline needed long term…I wish I could make it habit lol
There is always tomorrow to start again, right.
Karen @ Fit in France says
Changing habits are so hard and I completely support falling off the wagon by choice. I have the hardest time getting back on…
Good for you logging food. It drives me nuts.
Hang in there !
alexandra @ my urban family says
I don’t think 21 days is enough for a habit to stick for me either! Sounds like you’re heading in the right direction though!
Jody - Fit at 58 says
You know my opinion on balance in life. Honestly it came later in life after I learned some life lessons! 🙂 It is always the key to get back to it… YUP! Yahooo for muscle!

Eating good is so hard. I find myself doing great for a while and then totally falling off the wagon. I find that if I restrict myself too much that is just a recipe for disaster!! Congrats on Rock N Blog! I’m so excited to be back too!
