Before I get to the rest of the shenanigans, here’s how the workout week went:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 8 trail miles
Wednesday: Yoga
Thursday: 5 birthday miles
Friday: Plyo intervals
Saturday: Travel to FL
Sunday: 4 beach miles
Last week was my birthday week.
We hit up the Big Bowl where I enjoyed Pad Thai and this birthday concoction. No “official” birthday cake. I’m coming to terms with this. Plus I don’t need cake. At all. And we were traveling. So it’s just as well.
I did get the super-duper Garmin 920XT that seems to do every single thing. If only it’d swim for me, I’d really appreciate that. I’m trying hard not to be a total tech wuss and not learn about all that it does. I’ve gotten it into swim, bike and run modes. But for the life of me I can’t get it to just tell me my freaking stats after I run. Is that too much to ask? Or do I have to visit this Garmin Connect place everyone speaks of? Sigh.
So yeah I’m digging Florida. We dropped off ThingΒ 1 in Miami so she could head down to Cuba. Seriously kids these days. I hadn’t even been on a plane yet at her age. I’ll leave you with some pics.
Love the white sand beaches.
…and being a total slacker.
Ok one more.
How was your week? Are you ready for Christmas? Favorite winter vacation destination?

I had never been away alone at that age lol times have changed…
The beach looks lovely π
I am a total Garmin connect fan, give it a chance π

Happy birthday! What a fabulous place to celebrate! Gorgeous pictures! My hubby and I do the same thing re: cake… just a treat, not an entire cake. Only want a taste. π Enjoy those beaches!

Happy Birthday! That Garmin sounds AH-MAZING! And, yeah, at 21 my son has been to at least 3 more countries than I have!

I don’t actually use Garmin Connect. I upload my data to Strava and Training Peaks. I think you can set it up to automatically sync to GC and then GC sync with Strava and others if you are inclined, although I haven’t set that part up yet. I don’t mind sitting at my computer after a run. Glad you had a happy birthday! cheers and here’s to many more!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
Oooohhhhh…those beach photos are heavenly! Enjoy your time in Florida! Will you be back for NYD? I’d love to do a run with you and Sara…maybe we can plan something?
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Last year was the first time in a long, long time I had a birthday cake — and that was only because it was also my nephew’s Bar Mitzvah so my brother got a birthday cake for me (and thankfully didn’t present it at the Bar Mitzvah, which was their plan, because I HATE being the center of attention).
Worked out well no leftovers.
Man I have total YOLO over that sunny beach photo. Winter decided to arrive with a vengeance this weekend (and thankfully will be going away really, really soon, too). I just could use a little warmth & sun.
Happy birthday to you!

You can go into History on the watch and it will have all of your stats from your workouts there.

Happy Birthday!
Nice legs. π
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
What a great gift! I think that is the Garmin that my husband has. I’m not sure if he can see his stats on his watch, but I know he uploads them to Garmin connect. Looks like an amazing trip! Enjoy your time away and happy birthday!

I left you a HBD message on some form of social media but here’s another! Happy (belated) birthday! ==That concoction looks AMAZING and you didn’t have to make it. Win-Win. π Cuba!? What’s the connection? (I thought you couldn’t go for just tourism just yet?) Just curious. And jealous!! Merry early Christmas!
misszippy1 says
Happy birthday! And happy holidays, too. What a gorgeous place to spend them. I am seriously jealous of thing 1–Cuba is high on my list!
Lesley says
Happy birthday! I get small cakes or a cupcake now since I don’t need the whole cake. The Garmin sounds high tech, but running gifts are the best.
Karen @ Fit in France says

I’m kind of yearning for warm weather – this wet and cold/cool stuff we have going on is getting tedious. Have a great trip!

Ooooo I love the pictures! So very pretty and makes me want to be on the Beach! Seriously she’s going to Cuba? Oh wow, I’ve only been on a plane once. π I haven’t told my family yet, well except my daughter, but we’re going away for Christmas, just the hubs and I. Yup! I’m so excited!
Marcia looks like your haveing a wonderful time, will you be down there over Christmas too?
Safe travels to you and I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!!
Raina says
Happy birthday Marcia! My son’s birthday is tomorrow :-). I know it seems crazy but you really should install the Garmin app on your phone at least. And then sync your watch to it. The data you can get is pretty mind blowing compared to whatever you might’ve been using before I’m guessing. Especially if you’re doing trackwork from time to time! Hope you enjoy your trip. The desert have me droolingβ¦

Happy Birthday! So glad you are having a wonderful time in Florida! I can’t wait to LIVE there one day, hehe!
kilax says
Happy belated birthday! Enjoy your time in FL!
You can see your stats on the Garmin 920XT (that is the one I have). You go to settings and history, and they are all there π I do recommend Connect though. The app is decent and it’s even better on the computer and your watch will sync to it automatically, so you can see run stats right away on your phone π

Happy Birthday! Today is my birthday. I opted for one bakery cookie in lieu of a cake that would hang out at my house for days. What an awesome gift. Yes, you’ll become good friends with Garmin Connect. So.much.info. We’ll be going to the FL panhandle for New Year’s. I love to run through the hood and look at all the old quaint cottages. Enjoy your Christmas week and thanks for linking!
