Sunday Strength, Swim, Underground Polar Express 5k
These “off-season” weeks are flying. Workout wise, the week was uneventful.
Swimming is meh like always. I’m enjoying strength like always, except I’m amazed how busy my gym is in the middle of the morning. One guy talked on his phone for 20 minutes while witting on a shoulder press machine. Then moved to a chest press machine and continued texting for 15 more. The entire time I was there, I never saw him actually lift a thing. I don’t get it.
I ventured into the city for another holiday party. We celebrated 150 years of delicious cheese with Bel Brands at the Virgin Hotel in Chicago. You know them for their Baby Bel, Laughing Cow, Boursin and more.
It’s always a treat to get to the city at holiday time. This time, thanks to El Nino, it wasn’t freezing either. I’ll take it.
Saturday we all went to shop for the family we adopted for Christmas, which has 7 kids. Yeehaw! We let our kids pick out stuff for them. My heart was warm with how much they enjoyed this and felt great about giving. Yes! Now to get it all wrapped.
Sunday Caveman and kids went to the Bears game while I and some BRFs ran the Underground Polar Express.
Thanks to theΒ Tipsy Elves, I had a not-so-ugly sweater poised for this race. What runner doesn’t love Santa on a unicorn? But the day was so warm and humid, I had to bag it and go to plan B, in hindsight, I should have gone to plan C (tank and skirt with no tights) as I got very hot running. In December. Go figure. The 5k was a festive, untimed “fun run” with pizza and raffles afterward benefiting suicide prevention. It was a wonderful event, I’d do again in a heartbeat. The perfect way to cap off another running season.
How was your week? Any parties? Festive Runs?
Tomorrow’s Tuesdays on the Run topic is the agony of a DNS/DNF. Have you not started or finished a race? How do you know when to pull the plug? Tell us about it!
Reminder: Runfession Friday is moving to this Friday this month only for Christmas avoidance purposes. Come linkup all your run-, swim, and gymfessions and cleanse that sweaty soul!

Your ugly sweater leaping picture is so cute! That does sound like a fun race. I’m a little curious, how does one get invited to a cheese party? (I love Baby Bel). I’m laughing because I literally thought the guy SAT on his phone at the gym. It took me a minute…I’m tired I guess. LOL. Thanks for linking Marcia!
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
You look like a beautiful reindeer leaping in that picture!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
I can’t believe how warm it was this weekend! Crazy that it was tank-top/skirt weather for your race. That holiday race sounds like alot of fun!
I really don’t understand people who go hang out in the gym and really don’t lift a thing. That is certainly one thing I don’t miss about workout out in a gym!

it has been COLD HERE (for here) and when we bought jackets for the family we adopted my daughter was shocked they didnt yet have ANY at all.

Tis the season to both GIVE and to learn.
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I’m so glad I got to spend the day with you! I do love this event! And I really wanted to see that sweater…
Erica @ Erica Finds says
You must have been sweltering! I ran the Rudolph Ramble 8K in shorts and a short sleeve shirt. A bit too warm for my December liking!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Sounds like a great week!
That’s so nice that you share the gift of giving with your kids. You’re raising up good citizens there!
Teri says
So happy to finally meet you in person yesterday, Marcia! Glad you had fun and thanks for supporting our community! See you again soon?! π
Karen says
You all looked so awesome in your festive race outfits!!
I can not figure out how you even jumped like that for your awesome flying pose!
Ha! We have extreme talkers at the gym, they will be on their head sets jabbering away…just sitting on the machines…and texters too.

The weather’s been crazy! I went to my cousin’s holiday party on Friday, and I was wearing a dressy tank top. I thought I might be just a little chilly, but not at all. The tank top was not Christmas-y, but I would’ve been roasting in a sweater.
Tricia@MissSippipiddlin says
I bombed your comment on Wendy’s blog too but I love the picture of yall at the Polar Express run! Yall look so festive and happy! It does sound like a very fun event one I’d be all on top of. I’m a little disappointed I missed our holiday 5k here, ya know I love a good excuse to dress up.
The warm weather took a toll on me running my 14 miles this past weekend too. Gosh, you just don’t realize how much more effort it takes too. That is a great picture of you leaping through the air. You seriously got some air under you too! I wondered about this months Runfession being on Christmas. Thanks for the reminder! Hope you have a great week and as always appreciate you!

My workout week has been kind of meh as well. I hope I can pick it up this week.:) You guys had such a fun run at the Underground Polar Express though. You all looked adorable! I saw that pic already on Wendy’s blog and thought that was too cute! Have a Wonderful week! π
Alexandra @ My Urban Family says
I love your sweater! And I’m jealous of your family going to the Bears game – it’s been so warm; what a great year for going!
Karen @ Fit in France says
Love your action shot ! I can not believe how warm it is in the US. Same thing here. Crazy. I wore a neck warmer this morning and eventually my neck & breathing felt constricted, because I was so warm.
Smitha @ Running with SD Mom says
I have been looking all season for an Ugly Sweater tank! Let me know if you have any leads!
Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner says
I went a little overboard with shopping for my adopted family as well. I even got my MRTT group to donate to them as well. it’s nice to be able to help out others this time of year. How fun you got to run with Wendy saw the photo on her page too! Have a great week
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
You all look so fun and festive for the Polar Express run! Cannot believe how warm it was this weekend – my kind of winter π
Emily @ Out and About says
You look so fab in that jumping picture! How do you make it look so effortless? I’ve never been able to nail the jumping pictures without looking like I made a big mistake, LOL.
GRRRR on that guy hogging the spaces in the weight room. I swear a lot of people go to the gym to be seen rather than to actually work out.
LOVE the picture of you ladies at the Polar Express Run!
How was that Bel Brands event? You are the only person I’ve heard mention anything about it! Isn’t the Virgin Hotel awesome, though? That miniature Eiffel Tower is beautiful.
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
I loved your jumping picture that you put on IG. I was going to go to the Bel brands party, but it was the same night as my company’s holiday party, plus the whole crutches bit is really getting in the way!
Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan says
I hate to complain about the strangely warm weather, but it doesn’t feel very Christmas-y. We are so not festive around here in our construction zone of a house, but my running group’s holiday party is this week, so that should be fun!
Coco says
This heat wave is crazy! It was 70F here today. I’ve been writing my runfessions post in my head. Hopefully I’ll have time to write it in WordPress before Friday. π
Kim Hatting says
Love the festive “leaping” pic! I wish I lived 5 hours closer, and I would have been “undergrounding” with all you hotties π
Char says
The worst thing about living at the bottom of the earth is that it’s impossible to wear Christmas sweaters at Christmas time. What’s not to love about Santa riding a unicorn? I saw on the news the other day, though, that someone had decided to create surfshirts that looked like Christmas sweaters so now I don’t have to feel like I’m missing out.
Sam @ MobileBayRunner says
I love your Tipsy Elves sweater! We saw them on Shark Tank and thought it was the best idea. I actually need a tacky sweater for a party this week. Thanks for the reminder!
Kelli says
Santa on a unicorn…that is pretty awesome. Thanks for the reminder about Runfessions. I feel so disorganized and this month is just FLYING!
elizabeth says
love that pic of you!! i feel like the weeks before the holidays were such a blur!! and we totally ran out of time to adopt a child- our church had minimums that were out of our budget. π
