Here I go again about the weather. Mom Nature continues to outdo herself here. Although I do think it’s all going to hit the fan tonight, I’ve been making the most of it by hopping on my bike or hitting the trails running every chance I get. It occurred to me yesterday that running in the woods with no training plan in sight feels like recess to me. Recess for grown-ups. Is that a thing? It is now!
I’m excited my last destination race of the year is little more than a week away! It’s also the Caveman and my wedding anniversary so the whole family will be making the trip to Sin City. Nevertheless I’ve got races to run and bloggers to meet!
As much as I’m loving life right now, I am not loving the reject Halloween candy bowl my kids bequeathed to me. Before I knew it, one fun-size bar a day became 3. Feeling gross from a sugar rush is not so much fun. I had to go cold turkey on the candy. No mas. This is day 3 candy-free.
Last but not least a little hip update. It still feels dicey when I sit or walk, but it’s A-ok when I run so yay! I suspect I overdid it on the strengthening exercises so I’m cutting back on those. Ha!
Are you loving fall? Any tips for Vegas? Any races left this year?
I’m linking up with Amanda for Thinking Out Loud Thursday.
Tiffany @ The Chi-Athlete says
You and I have been candy-free for the same amount of days! WE ARE STRONGER THAN THE SNICKERS!
Kelli says
Vegas will be so awesome! My aunt is going to be out there (coincidentally) celebrating her birthday and was talking about hotel rooms being difficult to find due to “some marathon.” I hate the Halloween candy, too. I boycotted Halloween at home but all my co-workers brought theirs in to work and then they bring it into meetings instead of leaving it sit in the break room. AAAAAAACCCKKK. My willpower isn’t that strong!!
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
I’m not going to lie, I’m super jealous of everyone running right now. STUPID BODY. I definitely need to cut back on my sugar, but right now I’m content with eating my feelings, lol.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Signed up for that 15k sunday and really crosses fingers that Chester will be ok — he always seems to take a turn for the worst on the weekends.
No kids = no candy = no problems. In fact, i did a lot of cooking this week and almost no baking and I think my waistline is thanking me for that.
The week before the race is not the time to hit the weights hard! Yoga is your friend. ๐
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
Since we got so few trick or treaters, we have a lot of candy left over! Those Reese’s PB pumpkins are disappearing faster than I thoughts, and no thanks to me! Whew!
Mar @ Mar on the Run says
I am totally loving fall and it’s been in the 70s this week in DC. Holla! it’ll get cooler this weekend but for now I’m enjoying it. I have one race left, the Philly half which I got a free entry into so it’ll be a fun race for me. I’m lucky I was traveling this past weekend. I haven’t had to really see Halloween candy!
Sharon says
So excited for you and Vegas! Hope to do that in the future. It will be a lot easier for me to get there, being on the left coast! Last race of the year will be a fun Santa run with the fam! It will be the kiddos first 5K! ๐
Emily says
I’ve done sugar free before, and it was good to know that I don’t need to eat sugar to be happy. I do like eating it occasionally, but I don’t ever want to be addicted to it.
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
Vegas!! Woohoo!! So exciting. Also, did your kids reject Snickers and Baby Ruths? Those are the best!!
Tricia@MissSippipiddlin says
Last year for Christmas I got a big bag of M&M’s, and for 3 maybe 4 weeks after I had me a handful, maybe 2 every night. I went through that bag and bought 2 more before I realized I had a problem. Those first 2-3 days were hell but I made it! Cold turkey is the way to go! So jealous you are going to run the Strip! One day I’ll be there hopefully!!! Can’t wait to hear and see what all you do! Have fun and I’m so very glad your hip is better!
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
Sometimes when I do hip/glute exercises I overdo it too! Then I stop. Still working on the fine line… I finished the last jolly rancher last night before bed SO looks like the only way I am having candy tonight is if I go buy some, which I will not do!
MCM Mama Runs says
Have fun in Vegas! I’m taking it really easy on the running right now – my right hip is still a bit unhappy, so I’m trying to do other things until it stops twinging.
And I just had to go cold turkey on all the sugar. It was getting ridiculous around here.
Alexandra @ My Urban Family says
With my birthday the day after halloween I’m usually in a sugar coma for weeks… I just have too big of a sweet tooth and between halloween and christmas is when I splurge. And then January is when I complain haha
Lisa @ Lisa the Vegetarian says
Vegas is so much fun! I went there about 3 years ago and it’s just a great, carefree and fun atmosphere.
Karen @ Fit in France says
Have a great time in Vegas. That place is CRAZY ! Going to be a fun race.
Tina G says
Last December I threw out my sugar…have not bought any since. Mostly I do not consume sugar…sometimes it happens (oops a few smarties got in there last week). Sugar (in the form of a margarita??) MIGHT happen Fri or Sat with you in VEGASSSSSSSSSSS!!!! But othersise I try to be good. ๐
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Glad your hip is feeling better. I hope you have a great time in Vegas for your race and anniversary! I can’t believe Butterfingers are in the reject pile, those are my favorite! ๐
Michelle says
I need to join in on the candy free wagon!!!! I have been so bad this week!!!!
Jody - Fit at 57 says
Have fun & Happy Anniversary!!!!!!! OH NO on the hip!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I am super bummed I’ll be missing all the Vegas fun. I swear one of these days we will finally meet in person ๐ Glad to hear the hip’s not a problem when you run. I hear you on the candy – I’ve had to just say no and walk away from the candy bowl.
Char says
I have chocolate in my house all year round thanks to my cake-making addiction and it’s not good. Somehow I’ve found myself having something after lunch nearly ever day – like I need dessert. When did that become a habit cause it’s not a good one and it needs to be taken in hand and broken.
Charissa (@ColourfulPalate) says
Way to go! I feel the absolute best on a low-sugar lifestyle. My sugars mostly come from the odd piece of bread, veggies, and fruit.
And chocolate happens too! Of course!
Tamieka@fitballingrunningmom says
Damn that freaking Halloween candy!!!! I am finding it so hard to resist…and I hate that!!!
I so wish I was running Vegas—sounds totally fun!!! I have football playoffs that weekend.
Have a blast and and happy anniversary!!
I have a low key 5k this weekend, turkey trot 10k, Rehobeth half and the jingle bell run to close out the year ๐
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
Whooo hoo! SOOOO Excited for Vegas!! Can’t wait to meet you!
Kate says
This fall has been SOOOO nice! I almost forgot what it’s like to not go directly from summer to winter. My autumn scenery hasn’t been as pretty as what you’ve posted, but I’ll take the trade!
I’ve got an AR this weekend in Kentucky and one in December, plus one more trail race in Dec (I say “one more”, but I think it’s seriously my first running race since January!).
And my only buying candy I don’t love strategy paid off. Plus, my husband was kind enough to finish our leftovers off pretty quickly.
Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan says
Fall is weirding me out. It’s too warm out, it makes me suspicious.
I have resisted the urge to buy all the discounted Halloween candy – if it’s in the house I will eat it all. In about a day.
Sandra Laflamme says
Some year I would love to run the strip at night! I can’t wait to read all about your experience. Ugh, so glad Halloween is over, definitely done with candy here too!
Carmy says
Confession: my tote bag is filled with reject halloween candy!
Natalie says
Marcia, I didn’t know you were going to be in Vegas!!! Yay!!! I look forward to meeting you!!! Happy Anniversary!!
I realized today that I hadn’t seen my kiddos Halloween candy bags since we got back from NY.
My Mom had stashed them in a cabinet up high where no one could get to them. My kiddos FORGOT about it!! Too funny! I brought it up today and no one really cared… Sounds good to me – I know as they get older it may change! ๐
Pragati // Simple Medicine says
That is the coolest medal ever! Can’t to read your race recap. The strip at night is so exciting! I bet it makes a great race venue.
Elle says
I had a chance to spectate the 5k run last year on Saturday night and it was so fun! And the expo was the best I have seen. I hope you have a wonderful time in Vegas and a fun anniversary!
HoHo Runs says
You’ll have so much fun in Vegas. Happy Anniversary! Your hip sounds like mine. When they get all cranky, the worst thing is sitting…and then getting up from sitting. But they don’t hurt when running. I figure maybe it’s arthritis? And I had to say NO to the exercising! It makes mine so much worse.
