Running this week went well. Since we’re under the 60-day mark until Twin Cities, I’m finally putting my nose to the grindstone so to speak on training. Enough horsing around.Β Sunday’s run was SO humid. Close to 100% as I started the run in fog. You know those wraps every other person sells on Instagram? It felt like I had a double-ply full-body one of those on for the entire run. Blech. In other news, it’s officially dark at 5am now. Sigh. My early-morning run days are numbered. They’d be anyway, as kids go back to school next week.
Sinkhole. Yeah you read that right: while we were in Europe, one of the roads near me developed a sinkhole. I think it’s more of a bridge collapse, but they’re calling it a sinkhole so we’ll go with that. It’s been almost a month and they haven’t even begun repairing it. The detour is a PIA but it has opened up a whole new running route with zero traffic.
Wasps in the attic. I see them especially at dawn at dusk crawling into tiny spaces along the eaves on our garage. Oh and there’s an ominous buzz too. I’ve took a couple of shots at them with wasp & hornet spray, but I think somebody’s got to go up there and evict them. That someone is not me.
Kids are home. As much as I love them, it was pretty divine to have some “me” time. When I got to the airport to get them I found a full paparazzi brigade. Who knew my kids were famous? Ha!
How was your weekend? Did you race? Any wasps? Paparazzi?
I’m linking up with Holly and Tricia for Weekly Wrap-Up
…and with Erin for Weekend Snapshots.
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
Wow, that’s quite the paparazzi at the airport! I’m sure your kids felt super special arriving home to that!

That’s a great week of workouts! I really need to start incorporating swimming in to my training. There’s a pool at my gym, so there’s really no excuse to not go. I’m also a morning runner and it’s making me sad that it’s still dark out when I go now! Not so easy to wake up, and now I have to pile on the reflective gear.
Hope you have a great week!!
misszippy1 says
Always good to have a few challenges thrown your way with training–a sinkhole is a new one, though! Welcome back to your famous brood. Are they charging for autographs yet?
Nice week of training…
Bri says
Uggh wasps. The one creature I have no problem squashing if I see one. They’re starting to get really aggressive here – which means no more patio meals!
Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner says
ooh wasps not good! You’ve been swimming a lot! looks like a great week for you. Have a good one
Karen says
Ha! That’s a lot of photographers, did you find out what was up?
Me time is always nice π and you made great use of it- fantastic training week!
Umm, the sink hole looks ominous…
That stagnant layering air is wearing on me, so ready for Fall π
Tiffany @ The Chi-Athlete says
I’ll send Harry over to get the wasps…he loves “hunting” things. SOLID week, darling! Way to keep up with all of the cross and strength training!
Heather says
17 on Sunday is brave. We went for a couple 2 mile walks and the humidity was awe-inspiring it was so high – I was glad I wasn’t running in it, but sounds like you got it done!
Eeek at wasps!
Kelli says
I’m cringing at the wasps! I swell up like a balloon with bee/hornet stings. Hopefully you can get it taken care of.
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
Sinkholes and wasps! EEK!! I hope both of those issues gets fixed soon. As for the paparazzi, I live in NYC and work in a tourist area, so there are cameras and selfie sticks galore haha.
Ange @ Cowgirl Runs says
That looks like a super great week of training!
I’m bummed that the sun is rising later and later (not that I run in the mornings, but I love waking up with the sun).
Emily @ Out and About says
YIKES on that sinkhole!!! Where is that!?!?!? It is terrifying that they haven’t begun work to repair it yet.
YIKES also on the wasps!!! Hopefully once the weather starts getting cooler they will self-evict via the circle of life method, if you get my drift.
It’s a little startling to realize that the days are already starting to get shorter. It seriously feels like the summer just began, and now it’s almost over.
LOL at the paparazzi filling the airport for your kids’ return!!! Better start collecting autographs now. ;-P
Jenn says
OMG that sinkhole!!! That’s so scary!!!
You had a great week! I would totally take out your wasps/hornets for you. I just demolished two nests this week. They keep coming back, the little jerks.
I did Tour De Pain this weekend – 3 races in less than 24 hours. Very happy to be sitting on my couch doing nothing today, that’s for sure!
HoHo Runs says
Wasps live in our chimney all year. It’s why we typically don’t build a fire…then they come inside. Another wasp story…when my in-laws built their last home (in the woods on a mountain) we went over to spend the night. I kept hearing this buzzzz, buzzzzz. I finally got up and looked. Oh my. There were like a 100 wasps hanging on the back of the bedroom curtains. EEEEK… Way to go on the 17 nasty mean miles. I was so happy to only have 12. Do you have any idea who the photogs were waiting on? Thanks for linking up with us today. I really appreciate it!
Becki S says
Looks like a fun week. Stay away from those bees totally someone else’s job π
Margo says
I need to know who the photographers were waiting for? π
Char says
That’s a pretty impressive sinkhole. Pity that you have to change your route – I’ve had to do a fair bit of that because of path upgrades and you’re right, it’s a royal PIA!
Debbie @ Coach Debbie Runs says
Good for you getting all that swimming done. it’s such great cross training for running!
Cristina @triathlonmami says
Congrats on a solid week! I started marathon training today .. GULP. I have to say, the sink hole scares me. It’s one of those things that are so freaky …. So who were those cameras for? Anything exciting?
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I am scared of stinging insects. I once called maintenance in my apartment building because there was a wasp in my apartment. True story.
Only I did have to kill it as they couldn’t find it. Good luck with that!
Yay for new running routes! You can never have too many.
Tricia@MissSippipiddlin says
You had a great week of training Marcia! Your so inspiring with you commitment and your variety of workouts! What is it about all the sinkholes? It seems like they are more and more common in recent years. I could not take care of the wasps, especially in the attic!!!! That would be a job for the hubs for sure. If I did I’d probably end up going through the ceiling trying to get away from the stragglers who fly away from the spray! π Anyway I appreciate you linking up with Holly and I for our first Weekly Wrap! We sure appreciate you!
Elle says
Hurray for having some ME time. Yeah, wasp season is upon us… keep your distance though!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
Of course, I want to hear all about China….
Diatta @ Femme Fitale Fit Club says
I did not races this weekend but I had fun. Hung out and met with some other DC area bloggers and it was a good time. When my kids went away I enjoyed the quiet time but now things are ramping up and they are back and now I have to get back in a schedule. LOL I know the feeling.
priya says
Take extra care with the wasps around.
Mary Beth Jackson says
great week of training! I don’t think waking up and going out for 17 miles for a training run is part of my plan, that blows my mind! I was puffing my way thru my 7! YOU ROCK! and wasps? that is a guys job- that is nasty business lady! π
Erica @ Erica Finds says
So who was the famous person? Inquiring minds want to know!
Was that 2 (6 *400) like 12? Ouch. I did 2 (6 * 200) yesterday with 2 tempo miles in between. Ouch enough.

Oh yeah WTG on keeping up the swimming, too! Awesome.
rachel says
Great training week… and scary sink hole… and WOW who were the camera men lined up to see!? Nuts!
Patty @ Reach Your Peak says
I did not know that it is dark at 5am or that it was light at 5am because I never wake up that early to run LOL! π I really wish I could though – it would make some days just way less stressful when it gets to evening and you realize you still have a million things to do.
About the sink hole closing roads, I recently ran on a road that was closed to traffic because a bridge was out and it was awesome! I could run in the middle of the road the whole way haha
Karen @ Fit in France says
No race this past weekend but I am starting to plan my fall schedule. Only 2 on the calendar for the moment.
I wouldn’t kill the wasps either. Call in male reinforcement !
Ivanna says
Great week of training! I never mess with wasps they just get mad lol I guess they win because I leave.
jill conyers says
60 day mark already. That seems like it went by fast. It might not feel that way to you π
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
Ohh, I hope you get rid of those WASPS asap!! I’m terrified of them!
elizabeth says
