Here it is, that time again to purge our sweaty soles! I know I’ve got my share of run- gym- and swimfessions and I hope you’ll share yours too. Let’s get this party started:
I can’t seem to remember to wear my Garmin these days. And when I do it’s never charged enough to make it through a run without that infernal low battery signal.
Speaking of that Garmin, I never loved it. In fact I’ve hated it from the day I got it. I hope it breaks so I can get a nice purple one. There I said it.
I’m this close to blowing off that teeny tiny pool tri in April I mentioned. They seem to be a tad disorganized and the race info. is conflicting. The website says its on 4/23, the signup thing says it’s on 4/26. One place it says the swim is 200m. Another place says its 8 laps of the pool. The pool is an enormous Olympic size one. I’m pretty sure I’ll perish long before 8 laps in that sucker.
I just told you I’m afraid of a teeny tiny tri, but at the same time I’m eyeing ANOTHER tri at the end of June. Seriously what is wrong with me? Dr. Jekyll has nothing on me.
Thing 1 is a Bath & Bodyworks lotion, spray, soap hoarder. Seriously her vanity has precious little real estate left that isn’t occupied by Malibu Sunset and Beautiful Day and Warm Vanilla Sugar. So I’m helping her out by permanently borrowing….ok ripping off….lotions, one bottle at a time and putting them in my gym bag so I don’t reek too badly of chlorine. If she reads this, I’m outed I guess.
I’m busting out my long run today instead of this weekend. After that I have no plans to do another one until we’re back from spring break. Running long in 85 degrees when I should be lolling on a chaise with an umbrella drink is just wrong.
I won’t be running long on vacay, but an open water swim…even if it’s for 5 seconds…will happen. And I am mortified.
Catching the bus to Hopkinton (and wiping away tears) in my Goodwill sweats.
And finally, since The Boston Marathon is rapidly approaching, here’s an ancient Boston runfession I need to unleash: Back when I ran my first Boston in 2009, I wore throwaway sweats like they tell you to. When the time came to ditch them however, somehow the jacket made it into my gear check bag, onto the gear bus and I picked it up and brought it back home with me. It’s hung in my closet ever since. The other day I wore it. I call it Goodwill throwaway chic.
Ok your turn! Linkup your runfessions or share them in a comment. I promise you’ll feel better!
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
I was super pumped about linking up and then realized that I only have one major runfession and that is that I get a bikini wax before my big races and such. It is a ritual and soooooo necessary. Otherwise, rub city.
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
That University of Northern Iowa throwaway I wore to our Turkey Trot? And found it again? It made it to my half last weekend and made it home with me. I’m starting to think that it is a lucky charm…
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Ack somehow I missed you were runfessing early this month. I wouldn’t blame you for taking a pass on that pool tri – sounds like a bit of a mess on the organization…never a good sign!
Kovas - Midwest Multisport Life says
Open water swims, while scary, are so much more fun than the pool.
misszippy1 says
Loving this all–and that you’re eyeing up another tri. Do it! And enjoy the open water swim on vacation; it will build confidence.
Have a fabulous trip–perfect timing!
Heather (Where's the Beach) says
LOL I always love your runfessions! And seriously the warm vanilla sugar is the best scent.
Michelle says
I’ll have to think on this one…not sure I have any this month, other than I haven’t ran ALL week. <3 Have a great trip!
Mary Beth Jackson says
oh my! So funny today! I have to agree malibu sunset has to be better than chlorine! I am so impressed that you are so sticking with the swimming! You enjoy that vacay!
Carly @ Fine Fit Day says
I get weirdly attached to throwaway gear – whether it’s something stained and torn of my own, or a cheapie I’ve bought in a dollar store, there’s something about just tossing it at the beginning of a race where I have that moment of, “Will I regret this? Maybe I should just tie it around my waist.” Craziness.
Tricia's Mostly Healthy Life says
Chlorine is your perfume! ewwww! LOL. Even if you don’t do the April one, you will be doing the one in June. Is the water heated for these events?
Jen@jpabstfitness says
I’m not sure who loves bath & body works more, me or my 10 year old!

My runfession is that I’m dreading today’s long run. It’s still 25C outside at 4:30 am. It’s humid and it’s going to rain. It’s going to hard and hot. The only saving grace is that I’ll have friends suffering with me.

i always lose my gear, garmin, or iPod. Seriously, i am the worst. YAY for boston… SO SOON!!
Mary @ Fit and Fed says
Good luck with the swim! I too hate it when I get those nibbles from creatures unseen, and the ocean gets me anxious. My sisters are such badasses (Alcatraz swimmers!) compared to me. On the plus side, maybe you will have a great view? And no chlorine!! Can you convince anyone else in your family to swim with you?
Emily @ Out and About says
I am terrified at the thought of doing an open water swim in the ocean. But, you’ve got this!!! You are going to tear it up!!!
That picture of you catching the bus to Hopkinton is very touching. Truly a picture is worth a thousand words. WOW.
You must be super excited for your spring vacation!!!!!!!
HoHo Runs says
I once sat on the back row of a plane with two collegiate swimmers. It smelled so bad that I named them Chlorine and Urine. They needed Malibu Sunset in a bad way. Enjoy the beach!
Andrea says
OWS are scary but so necessary to practice.
That tri sounds very disorganized and that would discourage me big time. Good luck if you do it.
Jill says
I remember that picture from Boston, it always tears me up to see it.
I’m pretty sentimental and have my first pair of marathon shoes, my first BQ marathon shoes, and my first Boston Marathon shoes. I totally get the sweats thing!! 🙂
Glad the swimming is going well. Woohoo!
And, where the heck are you going on vaca now? Will you please adopt me????
xoxo
Lisa @ RunWiki says
I’m sure you your “throw away” chic looks amazing on–you’re gorgeous and plus, you smell good while wearing it, so people won’t think you’re homeless. haha! Hope you are having a great weekend! xo
Alison @ racingtales says
Sorry to hear about the confusing info about the tri. One thing I can’t stand is incorrect race info. But it would be a shame not to do it if you’re feeling ready. A 200m swim would be ridiculously short. BUT even if it’s a big pool they will most likely put the lanes across the pool so they’re 25m long, not 50m. 8 laps can be confusing because a lap is usually down and back in the same lane (i.e., 50m) but some people call it a lap when it’s just one length. I would assume it’s 400m, and then it will be a pleasant surprise if it’s less! I have done one 300m pool swim, but that was the shortest. I say go for it, what do you have to lose? Enjoy the vacay!
Kim says
Yes – you need the purple Garmin!!!
Good luck with your open water swim – you will be great!!!

interesting- isn’t it a lifetime event?? that’s odd. but look at you for not giving up and finding a back up!
