I signed up for my first yoga class when I was 19. It took place at sunset in a studio on the top floor of a high rise. The views were stunning and relaxing. I was hooked. More or less, yoga has been part of my life ever since. When life gets chaotic, it’s always good to return to the breath.
This year, I WILL do my first triathlon and I’m committed to learning to swim. Most of the challenge of swimming for me comes with the breath. Or shall I say holding it? Slowly I’m learning to calm down and flow with my breath, as I do in yoga. Because I’m swimming now in the slots that used to be allocated to yoga classes, getting to the studio to practice has been tough.
I simply hit up my local Target, picked up a pack of Stayfree Ultra thins (any Stayfree product will do), snapped a picture of the receipt and uploaded it on the Stayfree site. A link to my free 30-day subscription to Gaiam TV was in my inbox shortly thereafter.
Thanks to Stayfree and Gaiam TV, I’m enjoying yoga at my convenience in the comfort of my living room. To say I am blown away by Gaiam TV would be an understatement. Tons of yoga from a variety of instructors. There’s definitely something for everyone, whether you’re just starting out or an expert.
You’ll also find guided meditation, videos and articles on food & nutrition, healing, health, longevity and so much more.
Is yoga part of your fitness routine?

This sounds like a lot of fun. I practice yoga at the gym but need to get in the habit of doing it throughout the day at home too. Thanks!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
Sounds like a great deal! I always feel like I get more out of yoga when I take class in a studio, but sometimes its just too hard to get there. Yoga at home is a great alternative!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I do yoga once in a while… :p
This is a great deal! Too bad I don’t need to use those products anymore…

I can not wait to get back to yoga!!!! Doctor appointment tomorrow and thank goodness I now no longer use those products but I sure have bought my fair share!!!

I’ve been loving yoga and doing it a lot more regularly in the last couple of years. I’ve heard so much about Gaiam yoga, I have to check it out!

I don’t do yoga often – I keep thinking that if I went to a couple classes I might end up liking it more.

With this go-round of marathon training I will be doing yoga once per week at a minimum. I do about 30 minutes so far of the P90X yoga videos, but would love to try some others. (I am TERRIBLE at yoga! LOL!)
Alison @ racingtales says
Love me some yoga. I have a Rodney Yee Power Yoga DVD that is my mainstay. Doesn’t matter how many times I do it, its always a challenge and he is so zen it’s beautifully calming.
A note on swimming. I read not so long ago that holding your breath is actually bad. I thought, what are they talking about, you have to hold your breath! But then I realized what they mean: you shouldn’t be holding it in, but slowly releasing. I usually count to 3, and release on counts 2 and 3. Helps that I breathe every 3rd stroke. Try it, it actually works!
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
Yoga is definitely part of my training but not as often as I would like. As soon as Paris training is over, I will definitely be doing it more often!!
Amy @ Will Run For Ice Cream says
I never thought about yoga helping with the breath in swimming! I’m trying to do more yoga this year too (with coming back from injury). This is a great deal.
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
I try to do yoga at least once a week. Not only is it great as a cross training and stretching activity, but its also great for relaxation and general health.
AJ @ NutriFitMama says
Yoga is not, but I would like it to be! I do a lot of pilates though and I love it!
Kayla @ TheEclecticElement says
I started REALLY doing yoga about 2 years ago and, due to my chronic illness, it’s been on and off ever since but I really should start trying to make more of an effort because I do love it!
Thank you for sharing this amazing opportunity 🙂
Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan says
I don’t generally like yoga very much, but I’ve been doing piyo lately, and I like that!

I so wish I was more into yoga…thinking I should just bite the bullet and make it part of my routine!
Jody - Fit at 57 says
I need yoga so bad! Wish I could afford to be taught by a person vs. a video… 🙂

this training season, i’ve done restorative or yin yoga 2-3 times a week and i think it’s made a HUGE difference. I love it.

I have been practicing yoga since the 70s-classes, not videos. And the classes I have available to me are not challenging enough currently, so I do my own routine that good instructors have taught me. I am “into” my 44th year of running and I am convinced that my yoga practice (as well as other things!) has kept me supple and strong at 61 to continue to “run” (others may not think my shuffle is running anymore….but I try.) Good luck with your triathlon! Yes, swimming is active yoga! I am currently training for my 123rd tri! (But I started a LONG time ago!)
Sheila says
I Love Gaiam and think if you love yoga you have to give them a try. I can grab my laptop, no matter where I am and get in a great yoga session. 🙂
Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC says
i’m doing my first tri this year too! yay 🙂
Logan Can says
This is a great deal! I’m so excited to try the videos!

Until 2 weeks ago Yoga wasn’t part of my fitness routine. Now it is and I am so happy I finally took the first step into it. I already feel more balanced and energized!
