It’s been loads of fun focusing on something other than running for the past couple of months, it really has. Strength training has been my main dish with a side of running and an even smaller (not very tasty) side of swimming. I’ve gotten significantly stronger. My knee that was little bit wonky last year is now strong and happy.
But April is around the corner and the RnR Nashville Half Marathon waits for no one. So it’s time to once again focus on running and let the other disciplines fade to side dish status. Time to take the Garmin out of mothballs too. The plan is to run 4x/week and cut strength and swim from 3x to 2x/week. We’ll see how that goes.
In other news: The Caveman has been flitting about Asia for the better part of this month and won’t return until next weekend. He made that infamous flight from Hong Kong to Malaysia not once but twice and I’d be lying if I said I did not hold my breath each time. This is the longest we’ve been apart since we lived in Europe and definitely the longest the kids have gone without seeing him. Communication has been spotty and even then only via email so it’s weird. Plus I don’t particularly enjoy pumping gas, dragging trash to the curb or any of the Caveman’s other chores.
Be sure to join us on the Twitter Monday, January 26 at 1pm PST for a chat with Meb! Follow #MyRnRTour to join in the fun! I don’t need to tell you how cool Meb is. He’s only the 2014 Boston Champion. Plus when I met him at a RnRChi expo of all places with the kids in tow, I had a pretty sucker stuck to my pants and he didn’t even laugh at me….too much.
How was your weekend? What’s the longest you’ve been away from your partner? What training plan do you use?
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I’ve never been away from my hubs for more than a long weekend! Those sister weekends were really the first time we’ve been apart all our married years. Oh and a 10 day trip to Door County with my parents and the boys for recuperation after my surgery 7 years ago.
Pahla B says
The first four years we were married, UIH was in the Army. I figured out once that he was only home for about one-and-a-half years of that. For like twelve years now we haven’t been apart for more than 24 hours. But, man, I wish he would put gas in my car!! You’re a lucky girl!

Mr. Zippy does a ton of traveling, too, and I am fairly jaded about it, but I’d probably be nervous about that flight, too! Glad the Caveman is finished with that part now.
Enjoy the transition to half training. Crazy to think that April will be here before we know it.

My daughter and I are signed up for the RnR Nashville too so I hope we have a chance to meet! I just put the twitter chat on my calendar so I will try and remember to join 🙂 Hunting season seems to get longer and longer each year and the hubby can be gone about 2 weeks with very little communication- it is weird and I agree, no one likes dragging that trash can to the road!

Gosh, what does the Caveman do for a living? What cool places to travel! I am a military wife, so my hubby is gone A LOT. The longest was almost a year when he was deployed to Afghanistan…the hardest year of my life.
Lisa @ RunWiki says
I didn’t know you lived in Europe– jealous. Anyway, asking a military wife what’s the longest she’s been away from her partner is, well, let’s just say I feel grateful beyond words that 6 months has been the max for us. He’s retired now, so I can exhale, but it was a long 6 months without him… then he came home and knocked me up with twins.. oy! Thank goodness there was only that one long deployment.

Beer Geek used to travel a lot for work, but it was always domestic and he always came home for the weekends. Now he pretty much never travels.
I’m currently writing my training plan as I go along LOL. Not sure how it will end.
Laura@ Fit Running Mama says
I can’t imagine being away from the Hubs that long– We are lucky that our jobs keep us both here but we did spend about 6 days away from each other right after we got married as I went to a conference– other then that the typical is 3-4 for various guy/girl trips… I’m sure you can’t wait for him to get home!

The pool is never tasty! Good luck with your 1/2 training! 🙂

Ugh – hope the Caveman is home with y’all soon!! Those long times without your partner are hard!!! Thankfully Chris doesn’t have to deploy as much now as he used to so we rarely have trips over a few weeks long these days:)

Wow! Not having great communication with The Caveman has to be tough; I hope things improve soon. How exciting that you’ll be training for RnR Nashville; that will be a great race! Thank you so much for linking up to the blog today; hope your week is off to a great start.

I am using a coach for the first time this training cycle!! I’m bummed I missed the twitter chat with Meb, I was picking up my son from school!

You’ll do amazing girlie!

It seems like just last month you went from lifting to running during the “off season”. The season is back on again!
My bf and I lived in different states when we first met so we would go a couple weeks at a time without seeing each other but that is about the longest.
elizabeth says
ooh, that is a long time!! I’m pretty independent and enjoy my work travel away, but the longest i’m gone is a couple nights at a time. I did go to europe this summer and that was the longest time away but we had facetime so it wasn’t too bad. i LOVE this new training plan. I seem to do better when someone else tells me what to do. I would second guess my “plan” if i did it on my own.
HoHo Runs says
The hubs and I are generally not apart for more than a few days at the time. Good luck as you officially start training for Nashville. I use my own plan, very loosely based on one of Hal Higdon’s.

Iven just spent eight days away visiting his mum. Only eight days and I was wanting him home – not so much for the conversation cause he’s not that chatty, but to do all those jobs that I had to do in his absence. A month is a really long time. Especially with kids.
