It’s that time once again. Time to put it all out there to cleanse your athletic sole…I mean soul. Since I’m a multi-sport athlete, I’ll also be sharing gym- and swimfessions. Feel free to do the same. Whatever you wanna fess up to is just fine by me. Let’s get started, shall we?
I forgot to bring my running shoes to the gym and had to run on the mill wearing the trail clunkers that I parade about town in the snow in. Yes, I was that person. At least I dried off the slush.
Since I hit up the gym so often, I’m rapidly becoming addicted to that tiny pocket Lulu puts in their tights and capris. Because who wants to pin their locker key to their clothes? No one ever. What other (cheaper) brands have this?
Speaking of workout wear, I like to limit mine to 2 dresser drawers….cough and considerable closet space but let’s not talk about that cough. However, lately there’s been some, shall we say, encroachment. Workout wear expanding into additional, unsanctioned drawers. Ok I’ll say it. I’ve got too much. I’ve even moved some to the lower level…which I may never wear again but I can’t CAN’T part with. Help me, I am weak!
I’ve been swimming for a whole month almost and still have no idea how to put on my freaking swim cap. Is this the front? The side? Should I put it on in the locker room? Or poolside? I’ve been pulling it over my ears, is that right? Color me clueless.
When I check in at the gym’s front desk, they call me “Ann”. The first time they did it I wasn’t sure what I heard. The second time I thought there might be a chance they called me “Ma’am. But yesterday, it’s for sure, they’re calling me Ann. Which makes me wonder: Who is Ann? Why do I have her card? And where is Marcia’s card? Is Ann using it??
I fired up training for RnR Nashville this week. Except I neglected to take the Garmin out of hibernation. So we’ll never really know how tempoish or not my run was today. It’s probably better that way.
Ok what’ve you got? Link em up below and be sure to visit other Runfessors. There, don’t you feel better already?
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I have one section of my dresser for workout clothes and i can’t close the door. It’s bursting. I think I need a purge…
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
I can definitely relate to the workout clothes taking over. I really try to keep them in their specific drawers but those drawers just seem to get fuller and fuller..not sure why its so hard to part with old workout clothes?
I wouldn’t have a clue how to put on a swim cap either.
Kovas - Midwest Multisport Life says
I started building a gear closet in my basement and have been giving away old fitness clothes and gear – feels so good and now I actually have mostly just things I might use. 🙂

Laughed out loud at the Ann thing…so funny! I think you need to see how long they can keep that up before figuring it out. The swim cap–I don’t completely cover my ears, just the top, but I think it’s probably a personal preference kind of thing. I always like to wet my hair first in the shower and then put the cap on–keeps the chlorine from being too damaging.
Key pockets are a must for me on all shorts/capris/tights!
Terzah says
if Ann is also paying for your gym membership, I’d keep her.
I did the elliptical at the gym in nothing but socks the other day. 🙂
Heather (Where's the Beach) says
These are some of my favorite posts! You always make me chuckle. I have some champion brand capris that have the key pockets. My former gym had those slinky like bracelet things attached to the keys and I’d just loop it around my water bottle.
Katie says
I too am weak. I have some base layers with holes in the pits and some outer layers that stink like……grossness after 2 drops of sweat that just need to go, but yet I continue to wear them.
Soffe running shorts have key pocket and they are cheap. The JC Penny brand Xersion tights also have a key pocket and I think you can usually get them for around $20.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
OK now you really have to find out who Ann is! I recently purged my running gear but I must admit there’s probably still too much.
Carly @ Fine Fit Day says
I have so much workout gear it’s not funny. The only reason they’re not bursting out of my drawers and closet right now is because I put away all the stuff that doesn’t fit me right now. And swim caps are a pain. One tip I remember from swimming in high school is to put talc in the cap first so it makes it a little easier to get on.
Carilyn Johnson (@CarilynJohnson) says
So with you on the key pocket in capri pants – can’t figure out why they don’t all have them. They’re for working out, for crying out loud. Who wants to carry around a key> 🙂
As for the cap, most people wear it the “seam” going from forehead to neck rather than ear to ear. But it really is a personal preference. And you usually don’t cover your whole ear because it traps water in them. Most people just cover the tops. So cool that you are swimming! I really think it is the fountain of youth!
Lauren @ Lauren Runs says
I agree with Carilyn – the swim cap view you are showing is on it’s side. Your ear would be in the middle there.
I will try to do a video to show you (and learn how to do a Youtube video!)
Other tips for the swim cap: wet your hair first. I usually get in the water, pull hair into pony tail, and then if you have someone help you, they can put it on you real easy. You would hold the seam to your forehead, and they pull it over your head.

Running clothes is the only type of shopping I enjoy (I’m missing that shopping gene most females have.) So, I have way too much of it. And have NEVER gotten rid of any of it. EVER.
Rachelle Q says
So funny that they call you Ann at the front desk:) At one gym that I used to go to, the front desk guy always called me Rachel instead of Rachelle and I never corrected him. It took about 5 months for him to find out he had been calling me the wrong name the whole time;) My workout clothes definitely encroach on extra drawers:/
Pahla B says
I bought a cute old-lady swim cap to wear to the gym pool that was much, much easier to put on and didn’t yank my hair so much. I pull mine down over my ears because I also wear ear plugs to keep the water out. Swim weenie, I know.
I’m so excited about linking up, thank you for being the hostess with the mostest! 🙂
Annmarie says
My workout clothes are literally leaping out of the dresser. I swear I just cleaned out before Christmas but it looks like I need to reorganize a bit more! I love those Lulu pockets too- if you find a cheaper brand that has them, let me know 🙂
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
Seriously…how do you put the cap on? I always wonder that myself. Totally understand about the workout clothes – the space in drawers and the pocket. Who can live without it?
Janice - The Fitness Cheerleader says
That’s the side of your swim cap. The fold runs from the middle of your forehead, over your head to the middle of the back of your neck & it goes over your ears to keep you aerodynamic (supposedly – I don swim fast enough to notice a difference). Thanks for hosting this fun linkup!
Thelma says
Ann, what did you do with Louise?
Mary Beth Jackson says
lol ! Who is Ann? I am intrigued- we must know! As far as training keep going you may need to finish that Nashville race come back & drag me over the line – 3 weeks left of rest before I can start! Drawers? I have taken them all over in the guest room! I remember when all my stuff fit in one drawer! This just means we are having fun ! That swim cap scares me- I have no advice! Happy Saturday!
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
Haha, I love the swim cap one….I think I would be in the same boat if I ever tried to put one of those on!
Kim says
I have no clue on the swim cap — I’ve seen people dip it in the pool first but I don’t know why!!
Target actually makes workout stuff with the little pockets (lots of them even have the zip one).
Enjoy your weekend, Ann!!!
Black Knight says
I have some old clothes that are my mate since the times of my youth. They are in cottons, pointless now, but I will take them with me as nice memories. The oldest is the outfit that I received when I joined the Navy in 1977 with written “Marina Militare” (Navy).
Looking at your swimming cap….. what about a swim in open sea in July?
elizabeth says
i truly don’t know how to condense my workouts clothes anymore than I have. I love them. and i have 4 drawers full. :):)
