I’m joining Katie’s A Day in the Life linkup today and sharing a few snapshots of what life is like at Casa del Marcia. I became a stay-at-home mom after working in the corporate world for 13+ years. I didn’t realize how much I defined myself by my position as a Fortune 500 Marketing VP until I left it. I got a lot of “why?” and “you’re wasting your MBA” and “that’s ALL you do?”comments. It’s not the right choice for all, but living the multi-faceted life of a stay-at-home mom makes my heart sing. You could say I enjoy the variety. So here’s a typical day:
5am: Rise & Shine. Actually I’ve most likely been up at least once, maybe twice, during the night letting our dogs out. Their 15th birthday is fast approaching and nature calls. A. Lot. It’s kind of like having a newborn again. I only hope someone is as sweet to me when I’m in my golden years.
Set intentions for the day. Walk dogs, coffee, blog.
6:40-8:30: Wake kids feed them, feed me, make lunches, get them off to school.
8:30-9: Read blogs, write blogs, pack gym bag. If it’s a run day this is when I’ll head out. But it’s not.
9:30-11:30: Head to gym for strength training and swim.
Noon: Lunch, walk dogs.
12:30-2:30: Tackle writing assignments, touch base with run coaching clients, write training plans, etc.
2:30 -3:00: Pick up Thing 1 from Volleyball, get Thing 2 off bus.
3:30-5:30: Skating private coaching. Yes, running is my passion but figure skating? It’s my first love. I’d do it all day everyday for free. Shhh did I just say that? I’m SO grateful to still be involved with it and to teach others the art, discipline, physical and mental tenacity that goes into it. My kids skate but I am not their coach. It’s Nationals week. Very exciting times.
6:00-9:00: Dinner, homework, family time, walk dogs, bedtime routine.
9:30: Like a good card-carrying AARP member, I’m in bed watching the weather report.
What does your “Day in the Life” look like? Do you define yourself by what you do?
Ok your turn!

I love these day in a life posts– they are fun- My day varies depending on the day but there never seems to be enough hours to get everything done!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I’m trying to get away from defining myself as an NP. That’s why I run. I need balance. And mothering teenagers also requires that I have something for myself.

My day in the life is: walk dog, run, commute, work, strength train, run, commute, fall asleep in front of tv at 9:45, wake up at midnight, walk dog, sleep! Also, your gym pool looks awesome in that pic!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Like you I didn’t realize how much I defined myself by my corporate world gig till I walked away from it! (I was in marketing/advertising too!) And I so know what you mean – I enjoy the variety of things now! Gotta say I love the range of lunch boxes in your house 😉

I only work in my current job, because I have to in order to keep our bills paid/kids fed/etc. If I had the luxury to stay at home I truly would. I’ve always been envious of stay at home Moms, because you get to actually enjoy your kids instead of trying to squeeze it all in during the couple hours each night you get to see them while juggling housework, dinners and all the other chores that pile up while you are working otuside of the home. My job definitely doesn’t define me, I am so much more than this…:-) Great post.

I am seeing a ton of similarities in my day, here, which I’m sure comes as no shocker! Bed at 9:30? yes, please! And so glad you have the opportunity to keep a foot in the skating world since it obviously brings you so much pleasure.

Random, but love that Vera Bradley lunchbox. Lol, so cute.
Heather (Where's the Beach) says
LOL I’m usually in bed around 8 to read for an hour 😉 And I hear you on getting up several times during the night because of dogs.

I love Day in the Life posts! You’re such a good mom, why would you *want* to be back in the corporate world? Working at home is such a good life.
I do totally define myself by what I do, though, now that I’m a run coach/fitness trainer. Not so much all those years ago when I worked in an office.

Do they make Pull Ups for dogs or, more appropriately, Depends? It must get very wearing to have to get up every single night. Mind you, it gets very wearing to have to clean wees off the floor so maybe getting up isn’t all that bad.

As I posted in my daily routine, I am a news and weather watcher also. Oh my gosh, ice skating is such a beautiful sport, so exciting that you get to teach it. I loved reading about your daily routine 🙂

I love these posts – so cool to see how y’all spend your days!!
I love that you still get to spend time coaching figure skating!!!
Katie @ Live Half Full says
Ahh I miss skating. I swear, every day I drive by Glacier… one of these days I will get back on the ice for a session!

A full time mommy [I dont think there are part time mommys, at least I should think not] beats any job in the entire planet. You have a pretty full schedule to say the least. It’s amazing you find time to sleep. Thanks for sharing.

I like reading these posts too- it’s always interesting to see how people fill their days 🙂 it’s awesome you are still involved with skating- which you are so passionate about. You definitely keep your mind busy during the day with all these activities!
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
How cool! I had no idea you were a figure skater! That is awesome!!
Elle says
Love that you are such a good doggy mama and of course child mama too! Fun post.
Lisa @ RunWiki says
That damn carpool line, eh? I get grey hair just thinking about it. I have a friend who pays for 45 minutes of after school club, so that she can avoid “the line.” I love that you guys are so passionate about skating– you have such a talented family. My friend Kate used to skate real high up there, and now she runs marathons– skaters have that very strong mental ability to get those those tough moments.

A half hour to read and write blogs? If it’d just take me 2 hours to write a post, I’d surely write more often than the 4x I did last year (I did write one a couple weeks ago…my woe-is-me post :)). I guess I go in waves reading posts, but usually spend about an hour each night before I head off to zzzzzzz….(like now :)).
Very cool about Nationals soon. Best of luck to the girls!

love this!!! most of my days are different- one reason i love my job 🙂 typically up and working out between 5:30-7am. Work depends on the day- sometimes done by 4, sometimes work a night event, sometimes traveling to a different city/state. nights- may take a yoga/pilates class, cook dinner, blogs/tv. lights out between 10-11.

I don’t think it’s a waste AT ALL! Judgmental people, pssh. They can go away with their snooty thoughts on how an MBA should be used! I like the pig lunchbox myself. 😉
