Can you believe it’s time for one last installment of Runfessions for 2014? I’m including some “gymfessions’ here too because I’m all about strength training now that it’s my running ‘off-season’. Let’s begin, shall we? Feel free to join me:
1. Holiday shopping is not going well. I still don’t know what I’m getting my mom (I got her the ‘wrong’ purse that already needs to go back and I haven’t even given it to her). But oh my the selfish shopping for yours truly. No fewer than 8 tubes, of Nuun, 18 GU packets, two pairs of tights and I’m not even sure how many half zips because they haven’t all been delivered yet. Oh gosh and fleece headbands. Let’s not even talk about the Athleta sale. Folks, it’s been a gear binge of epic proportions.
2. Other than that teeny tiny tri I mentioned, I’ve got nothing. NOTHING scheduled for next year…..yet wowzers I am geared up for everything. The kids may be finding GU in their stockings…
3. I am this close to signing up for the March Madness half for the billionth time. I keep telling myself no mas. But as soon as I get the email from the race director, part of me wants to stand by at 6am on New Years Eve ready to pounce when registration opens….then closes 15 minutes later because it is sold out.
4. I recently got my hair cut and the front’s too short to make it into a ponytail without a few fallout pieces that drive me batty. This means a return to a headband, which I’d gotten away from. I’m kind of ticked at my stylist….yet it was I who neglected to remind her. #firstworldproblems
5. I lurk around the gym hiding from Mars, my old trainer (I am flying sans trainer for now). He probably wouldn’t even remember me but on the off chance he does, better to hide. Why do I feel guilty about not using Mars? I know this is irrational and he could probably care less but I do.
Ok your turn: What’s your Run- or Gymfession? Post it and tag me or put it in a comment below. I promise you’ll feel better!
HoHo Rins says
I’m glad I’m not the only one who has notthing on her 2015 race schedule. I recently lost my ponytail. I thought I could handle it. Nope. I recklessly told my hairdresser to take 3 inches. What was I thinking? Now my hair looks like a fountain when I run. Sigh.
Abby @ BackAtSquareZero says
I have nothing schedule for next year either. A million ideas (none of which I can afford) so nothing scheduled.
Annmarie says
I am not doing well with my shopping either- such a pain! My runfession is that I am a bit upset that I didn’t complete the #RWRunStreak I intended to do. I was 17 days strong when I fell ill with the flu and I had to break it- I HATE not following through but it is probably for the best…I’m not much of a streaker in the first place, haha!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
OMG! thank you for this confession. I have spent so much money on gear this month…all the sales..that I feel really guilty. Sort of…a box came from Asics yesterday (such good deals) that I told my hubs it was a gift to me from him. He was, of course, grateful that I did the shopping for him. If he only knew….
Marcia says
Wendy oh yes, Asics….they shipped so quickly!
Jill says
We need a girls weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Erica @ erica finds says
OMG – I could have written some of this! I am done shopping but also did a bit of one for you, two for me this year. And that Athleta sale!
I have NYC half again on March Madness day, thank goodness!
#4 – me too!
Christina says
Ha ha!!! I too have to tell my hair stylist that I run *a lot* and hair always has to fit in a ponytail. I had a bad haircut at Great Clips a year and a half ago and it was a nightmare to keep up for running. Back to my expensive, yet better, hair stylist now 🙂 I still haven’t registered for anything in 2015 yet. I need to get on that!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
I’ve also bought myself way too much this month! I think its all the holiday sales that are too good to pass up.
Katie says
Oh man, I too have stocked up. 18 gu, 2 new pair of knee high compression socks, new neck muffler, a beanie. The black Friday runner’s deals this year were amazing and I’m currently perusing base layers! Which I can’t feel to bad about, because the one I wore yesterday has holes in both armpits!
A few months ago I had my hair shortened by about 6″. Not a problem running since it is hat season, but for yoga I wear http://www.hippierunner.com headbands. They don’t cost a ton and they don’t crawl up my head (even when I stand on my head!).
My runfession is that I’ve been a slacker and even though I quit the treadmill 3 years ago, due to foot/hip discomfort, I’m debating taking it up again so I don’t have to go 3 days w/o running due to craptastic weather!
Kovas - Midwest Multisport Life says
I bought myself a tent warmer for xmas and will try it out this weekend – happy early holiday to me!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I lost my ponytail too! I clearly wasn’t listening when my stylist started talking about layers…ugh! I’m linking up again – always a fun post 🙂
Heather (Where's the Beach) says
LOL gear binge of epic proportions. Love it. One gift for you, 3 for me 😉 I’ve already bought myself a new pair of boots while out shopping for others. I felt I earned them somehow. My big runfession is that I’m going through taper crazies already. I don’t want to back down on miles b/c I don’t feel burned out.
misszippy1 says
Ugh–this whole shopping thing happens to me every year. In fact, I already have plans to swing by Athleta today b/c there are these really comfy sweatshirty tops there that I have decided I need in every color. Thinking of others? I think not!
And I am laughing picturing you sneaking around the gym hiding from the trainer…excellent visual!
Michelle says
I oddly told my husband NOT to buy me any running gear for Christmas…WHAT, am I sick? I have lost my running mojo this winter (as I do every winter) so I figured it best to save the money. Now cooking gadgets? Yes please! That is what’s on my list this year. I’ve signed up for Grandma’s Marathon next year…praying my mojo comes back by then!
Jamie @ couchtoironwoman says
Oh so many races on our schedule for 2015… actually it’s full except for one (planned) more. I haven’t had a gear binge in awhile… but I’d like to!
I’m glad my hair has grown out enough so that my ponytail doesn’t fall apart. When I donated my hair, it was so short!!
Char says
I am clearly doing Christmas shopping all wrong. I haven’t bought myself anything. Not one thing! Luckily there’s still a few more shopping days so I can rectify this injustice – now that I know it’s an injustice.
Kate says
I’m done with getting a ton of bargains that I don’t want or need from my husband — spend a little more and buy me something I actually WANT/NEED or save the money and don’t buy me anything. Seriously! So I bought my own present this year and told my husband he was off the hook. It was more expensive than he’d be happy paying, plus I had to try them on to make sure. I also bought myself a few extra gifts from him…because I NEED more capris and l/s tech tops.
Lisa @ RunWiki says
After my last post, one of my friends offered to cut my hair, so… note to self… mention that it needs to all be in a ponytail, because I just gave away about 32 headbands.
Carla says
I totally understand the shopping. I went out to get the grandkids stuff and wound up with three shopping bags of clothes from Maurice’s. Hmmm….
At least you got a haircut, I can’t remember the last time I had a pair of scissors touch my hair.
Black Knight says
The Christmas shopping is always a nightmare for me because I never know the presents to give.
No races scheduled here except a parkrun in Edinburgh on 28.02.2014 and … maybe… a run with a friend from USA this summer (she will come by a cruise ship, do you know her?)
kilax says
Hee hee, I have been enjoying picking out a few things for myself this holiday season 🙂
Why don’t you think you want to run Cary again? Cause the weather can be so nutso?!
Kim says
HaHa – so funny that you hide from Mars (is that his real name?!).
No races for me either – at this point I just want to be able to run!!
Mike says
I only have to buy for my wife and dad and always manage to procrastinate on it. I like the idea of buying gifts for yourself. I might just give that a try :-).
Carly @ Fine Fit Day says
Re #5: you can stop hiding! I used to love saying hi to old clients who didn’t train anymore, or those who did a complimentary session, then disappeared. I promise the trainer doesn’t care or hold a grudge. I hated my last haircut so much I haven’t been back (and I need to) and am considering trying to find a new stylist, even though I wasn’t specific about what I wanted, so it’s probably my fault.
elizabeth says
i’m resisting all the new running things but if santa doesn’t bring any; my “winter clothes” marathon training will need a boost. i have no self control.
Mary Beth Jackson says
I agree shopping was off to a slow start but I finally got on a roll- I always worry I have not bought enough! UGG- and let’s ot talk about hair! Not enough bangs now to much bang…….
Tricia's Mostly Healthy Life says
Tina here. LOL, j/k. I don’t like fly-aways either! I call them ‘wispys’. I found a wonderful pair of leggings for myself as well but I am almost done shopping for everyone so it was OK, right?
Erin says
I totally agree that the duller it is the brighter you should dress! As far as hiding from your trainer …lol I’ve had old clients hide from me. We get it – haha! It’s all good to do your own thing.
