I’m linking up twice today: With Amanda for My Year of Running…
…and for Tuesdays on the Run, where the topic is race bling.
2014 was a good running year for me. Not because I set new PRs (I did not) but because I let go of the pace monkey and ran for the joy of it. My training was kinder and gentler. At times I grew nervous that it wouldn’t be “enough”. But in the end, I came away injury-free (shhhhhh), which is absolutely epic for me. I met lots of friends, old and new, along the way.
Lincoln Presidential Half
Chicago Spring Half
Flying Pig Skyline Chili 3-Way (5k, 10k, half). This was the first time I ran a race series and it was a blast. Especially cuz I ran the half with Julie.
Soldier Field 10 Mile
Fort2Base Nautical 10 Mile. I love this race but gosh was it hot.
…and finally, after waiting 4 years….the New York City Marathon!
Here’s the 2014 tally:
- Full Marathon: 1
- Half Marathon: 3
- 10 Miler: 1
- Nautical 10 Miler: 1
- 10k: 1
- 8k: 1
- 5k: 8
So lets talk bling. I added a fourth medal rack but I still have one with medals hanging 5 deep. Here are the additions this year:
Medals from 10-milers and longer races.
Medals from Flying Pig Series.
Age group awards: Three 1st, Two 2nd, One 3rd.
Oh and one sweet trophy. Boom!
How was your year of running?
Wow great accomplishments this year! So many age group awards! I look forward to seeing what 2015 will bring for you!
SELLING MY CAR made my YEAR OF WALKING AMAZING 🙂
now I wanna blog it.
I’ve been reading your blog for a couple of years and I think this was your most joyful running year! I like the kinder, gentler running too (altho my inner type A comes out every now and then!)
I’m looking forward to more races and fun times with you!
Bling is so much fun. Four medal racks. Wow. Mine are on one rack, the refrigerator and in a box. My year of running was fine. I have a new favorite half marathon. My year of triathlons was great except for the horrible one. I already have two good halves lined up for 15. Need to get on the running train. One is the NYC half which is so exciting.
My year was full of injury unfortunately. Lots of race deferrments and a less than stellar marathon (not injury related). I hope that I can let go of the pace monster sometime soon and just run for the fun of it, but I have a really hard time doing that!
Hands down the best part is the no injury part! You had a really great year with lots of good racing and meet ups. I hope it continues on into 2015! Thanks for linking in!
Nice year of running and plenty of swag! Injury free is the best win though
AWESOME! Such a lot to be proud of this year, Marcia!
I ran the Lincoln Presidential Half too! But back in 2013 … what did you think of it? The fun hills at the end. haha 🙂 I like that phrase “pace monkey”. I think I will use that phrase too. I’m glad you ran an injury free year! It truly is a blessing when that happens 🙂
Wow! What a fantastic year of running- so many great accomplishments!!! Nice bling too 😉
yay!! what a great year. I love seeing happy runners, injury free too!
Injury free + running for joy = an awesome year! Yay! So happy for you! And congrats on all the bling!
Injury free is a huge plus! Congrats on all those lovely awards/medals.
That’s a whole lot of new bling added to the collection. You really need an entire room dedicated to your medals and trophies. And I’m guessing your girls are starting to amass pretty impressive collections too. Bigger house?
I didn’t run any of those races THIS Year but I have run them in the past– I hope we can meet one day!!! Maybe in 2015!!!
NYC is one of my dreams, you inspired me to toss my name in the lottery.
Abby I’m SO glad you threw your hat in the ring!
WOW what a great year you had! Congrats!
Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, my year of exercise, cookies & coffee! 😉
Wow what a great year Marcia! Sadly my year of running wasn’t so great. But I’m hoping to pick it back up in 2015:)
I was hoping to be able to make it through the year injury free, too but it was still a good year of running.
Here’s to 2015 being another injury free year for you!!
love this!! great year for you! i did PR in all 4 distances! it was a good year. 🙂
It was a total breakthrough year for you, Elizabeth and I couldn’t be happier for you!
what a year! woo hoo to NYC at last! sounds like you need to adopt the curtain-rod medal hanging method. (but then you’d have like 20 curtain rods hanging on the wall) Happy New Year Marcia!
What a great running year! That is a ton of races and to do it all injury free is amazing. Letting go of the pace monkey can be hard but running is much more enjoyable when you do (at least to me). Keep up the good running!
