Total Mileage: 55
Monday: Yoga. This hot vinyasa flow class is so darn crowded and yet they continue to allow people to stroll in late and disrupt everyone to move their mats. Why. Just why? Seriously when the door closes and class starts, that’s it…or should be, IMO. Call me the yoga nazi.
Tuesday: 4.12, upper body strength/core
Wednesday: 7 miles (7x1000m) Not sure how I managed this. There’s always more in there than you think.
Thursday: Bike 20 miles
Friday: Run 6 miles, lower body strength/core
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: Run 18.18 miles hilly + hill repeats. Because I’m obsessing about those damn NYC bridges.
I feel good about this week. Like I’m finally getting in a groove and handling the long run ok. Overall I still feel like my conservative training plan is on the easy side, but then they throw in a workout like 7x1000m. The cooler temps made training paces a whole different animal. It was a single parenting week and every freaking person in the house (except me) has had lingering cold/chest congestion that just won’t quit. Not sure why I haven’t succumbed, but I won’t question it.
Can we talk safety for a second? In the last week alone, I’ve witnessed 1 car accident (pulling out of the school parking lot of all places) seen 2 very scary near misses involving bikes and was almost taken out by a blue-hair who was literally looking through her steering wheel as she drove half on a 45mph road and half on the shoulder gravel and weeds. I minimize the amount of time I spend on busy roadsides (honestly no more than .25 of a mile), run against traffic and at really unbusy times (read early weekend mornings). But still, danger is out there. The amount of drivers talking on phones while they drift onto the shoulder blows my mind. Be careful!
Good luck to everyone in their peak week before taper! It’s all getting real! Are you as safe as you can be when out running/biking/driving? Are you a yoga nazi? One more day for my Pro Compression giveaway!ย

On the other hand, I went out of my way to avoid hills on my 18. Sounds like a great week, you’re going to rock NY!

Great job this week! I wish I had your initiative when it comes to hills. I’m running the Bourbon Chase soon, and I have done zero doubles and zero hilly runs. Go me.
BTW, 1000’s are a devil of a workout. Way to do it!

Great week for you – especially incorporating hill repeats into your 18 miler! The distracted driver thing is getting worse out there – I’ve taken to yelling at a couple of drivers recently. Maybe not the wisest choice but it’s just so frustrating!

Great week of training! My whole family has the hacky thing too…and so do all my patients. I have become OCD about hand washing. But I do have a little scratchy throat–ignoring it!
Don’t get me started about people in cars. I drive on Rand Road to and from work. It is a nightmare on a good day.

I’ve been doing hill repeats and trying to run hills for most runs b/c my full has me crossing over 3 bridges – and for an out and back that means 6 times. Gah! And I hear you on the safety issue. I know it’s not always the drivers – I saw a cyclist almost get hit b/c he didn’t stop at the stop sigh. Thankfully the driver was paying attention. It scared me b/c it was SO close. But then there are drivers who are so pre-occupied talking on phones, texting, and some who purposely swerve towards a runner or cyclist.

I’d be annoyed about the yoga, too. Especially a hot class–you don’t need to add body heat!
You are jamming with the training! Those bridges won’t have anything on you. Well done.
A close cyclist friend was just hit about a month ago here. I was just visiting him last Friday–he has such a long way to go. It’s hard on his wife, too, who is nursing him and taking care of three children, plus missing out on a F/T job. To top it off, it was a hit and run. It is scary out there, indeed!

I think you are smart to train hills for NYC! Those bridges are killer and the avenues in Manhattan are all on slopes ๐ Make sure you do downhills too! That is what got me! ๐

I’ve done that speed session before and it’s not fun. It doesn’t seem so bad when you see it written cause how bad can just seven reps be? Yeah, they can be pretty awful especially when the hurt starts on the third one and you’re not even past the halfway mark.
Kim says
Keep fighting off those cold germs – no time for that!!
Too bad we don’t live close since I’m doing the single parent gig, too – we could take turns doing the dinner thing!!!
The driving – don’t get me started on unsafe/stupid drivers!!!

Scary drivers are everywhere!
So jealous of the mini-marathoners you’re getting for the NYCM

I live in the country and people tend to not pay attention at all when they drive or just think it is ok to drive on the wrong side of the road. I take a ton of safety precautions but as the days get darker I am getting nervous that I’ll be less visible.
Mike says
I think texting is even worse than talking while driving. It’s dangerous out there for sure.

my pilates place has a strict “no entry when doors are closed” policy. I love it.
