Miles Run: 123
Miles Biked: 40
Swims: 5 (not to be confused with pool days)
Strength Workouts: 9
Yoga: 3
Books: 1. Finally finished The One and Only. Kind of good but not great. I blame my magazine habit for not finishing this sooner.
Movies: 1. We saw The Giver over the weekend. Meh. Felt like they were trying to be like Hunger Games. But it wasn’t. Good message though.
Races: 2. One virtual: Watermelon 5k. One real: Fort2Base Nautical 10-miler. Hot and humid, what else is new?
Food: While most have given up in our community garden, knock wood, I seem to have the weeds under control in my plot….for now anyway. Cucumbers, zucchini, peppers, onions, winter squash, herbs, even carrots are plentiful and I’ve been cooking up a storm. I made gazpacho yesterday and have zucchini soup in progress. Stay tuned for recipes.
Drink: Still in love with my BCAAs. I’ve been cooling down/recovering with blue raspberry BCAA slushies. Can’t tell you how that hits the spot in the heat we’ve had. BCAAs help me recover faster, help reduce muscle inflammation and soreness.
NYCM Training: 7 weeks have passed already. In fact race day is exactly 2 months from today. So far, training has been about squeezing the workouts in, stalking the weather, managing the heat and humidity and building the confidence that I can , in fact, do this. In some ways, the conservative plan I’m following from the NYRR’s seems “too easy”. But I’m no longer the runner that wants/needs five 20-milers in her plan. I have nothing to prove. A happy, strong(ish) finish will be enough.
Upcoming in September: Just one 5k for me so far this month. My main focus will be on marathon training. Oh and Laura’s 21 day reset starts next Monday so my diet will undergo some changes too. Join us!
How did August shake out for you? What are you looking forward to in September?
Robin (Masshole Mommy) says
I am looking forward to getting back into a routine this month. I totally fell off the wagon in August.
CARLA says
ahhhh my august was a DISASTER.
I need me steptember to rock.

HOW is it September already? And where is the drop in humidity that is supposed to come with it? It’s killing my low HR.
I’m so with you on marathons and not needing some insane number of 20s. It’s a good place to be, no?
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
You had a good month! Hard to believe NYC is only two months away! My August was kind of a mixed bag – really need this humidity to clear out once and for all!
Heather says
Looks like a good month.
I have one question.
Where did August go?!
Darlene says
looks like you had a pretty good month. can’t wait to hear about your NYC marathon experience.
Kovas - Midwest Multisport Life says
TNF ECS 5K and camping with the family in September!
Laura@ Fit Running Mama says
Bummer about the Giver– LOVED that book!! Also, I have struggled with The One and Only too!
Char says
You’ve had a good August by the sounds of things. The running is going well despite the weather and your garden is growing. What more could you ask for?!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
Same mileage for me too, sole sister!
Kim says
August was the highest mileage month I’ve had in many years – and I’m feeling it in my legs right now – hopefully this tired feeling is gone in a week!!
Jamie @ couchtoironwoman says
You had a great August! I’m excited that your marathon is two months away, that means mine is just a little bit more away!
I’d say we had a good August 🙂
Abby @ BackAtSquareZero says
I must admit I thought the premise of The one and Only was a bit creepy.
Alison @ racingtales says
Ooh that blue raspberry slushie looks and sounds good! Must try! I’m sure NYCM training will get easier once this humidity goes away…which I really hope is SOON! No need for that to hang around now that school’s back in session!
Carla says
I may not be able to outrun you but I bet I can out magazine you! haha! Looks like August was a great month. I got about half of what you did but I was very pleased. I can’t wait to hear about the NYCM..you’ll do great!
You’ve been so helpful to me in my training with what to wear and such. I finally bought a proper hat! I can’t thank you enough!
elizabeth says
i was disappointed in the book, too. And, to be honest, i’m not sure I’m enjoying being the 5 20 miler runner right now. It’s hard. It’s hot. I’m just hoping it all pays off in November. Since we are almost halfway through Sept (CRAZY) i’m hoping for cooler temps, soon! :):) great month for you!
