On Thursday night I headed down into the city for the Espirit de She 5k/10k. Minus the 2-hours spent sitting in traffic, I loved everything about being an Ambassador for this race.
I got there with enough time to snag (free!) street parking, catch my breath and take in the beauty that is the Chicago lakefront.
Some of the Chicago Ambassadors met up briefly before heading to the starting line. L to R: Me, Emily, Erica, Meghan.
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to race or run easy. But lining up at the dead back of the 5k pack sealed the deal for me. The narrow path made it virtually impossible to achieve race pace so I relaxed and took it easy. According to my Garmin, the course was significantly longer than 3.1, but who’s counting?
The post-race “night market” was fun: Filled with wine, sangria, tapas, massages, manicures and all things chicks love.
We lucked out this year with fabulous weather. Special thanks to Athleta, Lifetime Fitness and Mother Nature for a great evening!
Here’s how my training week shook out:
Miles Run: 22
Miles Biked: 15
Monday: Yoga
Tuesday: 6 miles (6x800m) + swim
Wednesday: 15 miles bike + strength
Thursday: Espirit de She 5k
Friday: HIIT Intervals + strength
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: 10 miles
How was your weekend? Have you done an Espirit de She event?
Looks like another great week for you! I’ve heard such good things about the Espirit de She races – wish they’d come to New England!
Fun!! I did their 10k in Houston and it was new and small, so I actually came in first and broke the tape- that will never happen again, ha!! But I really enjoyed it… they put on a great event.
Sounds like a run race, minus the traffic. Love the idea of a night-time party afterwards!
We are tracking very similarly in mileage right now. I did 23 for the week–getting there!
Looks like it was a fun event – especially the after part 😉
We don’t have an event like that near me but I wish they did! Nice workout week! I still see the swim in there:)
That looks like such an awesome race – I’ve never even heard of this race series before (they definitely don’t have them where I live) but it looks amazing. Such a good post-race!
I love those shoes! What afun time.
Great week! Sometimes it is nice to take a race easy and just enjoy it, especially the packed ones!
Great week! Sounds like a fun event. Not sure if there are any of these in my area but I’m off to look:)
Sounds like such a fun race – love the after race “night market!”
You should get bonus minutes taken off for wearing all Athleta!! 🙂
Nice week, girl!!
xo
This is my first time visit at here and i am genuinely pleassant to read everthing at alone place.
That post race food looks and sounds amazing! Sounds like a fun race and free parking was a nice throw in :-).
I’m glad you got there with plenty of time to spare. The traffic is ridiculous. Sounds like a fun time. I’ve got Zooma this weekend…my first all women event. I’m not planning to race it. I really need to work on race pacing, and this is my only race before Chicago!
SO good to see you that night! Katie and I were really appreciative of your help with the packet pickup crisis.
Gosh, I love the color of those Mizunos. And that purple skirt is just fabulous. You are killing it with the runner fashion!!!
