Β It’s June! Time for another edition of Runfessions! Come on, join me. The more the merrier.
I am tempted to let my new lime green Mizunos cut in line ahead of the red ones. Of course I have to use up my last pair of orange ones. Runner/hoarder problems.
Getting on in years and racing don’t always mesh. Racing often requires you wake at ungodly early hours. And text people. Without your cheater reading glasses. And when you do, you find you’ve texted your daughter’s friend instead of the fellow runners you’re picking up. And said daughter’s friend will think you’re some crazy stalker when she gets texts at ungodly early hours saying “I’m here” and “I’m outside in the white car.”
Coffee, newspaper (and cleaning up dog poop) won out over getting out for a pre-dawn run yesterday. It was approaching 80 when I finally got out, reminding me why I run so early in summer. Running in heat sucks. Really sucks.
I wish my Garmin would just die already. There I said it. I never really liked it ever since it quit on me in mile 2 (when it was a mere 2 months old) of the Wisconsin Half. Plus I really want the purple 220. I’m shallow that way.
This morning at 5am it was already 75 degrees with a billion per cent humidity. And I’m sitting here drinking hot coffee. What the heck?
Do you make texting mistakes? Hoard running shoes? Come on, runfess!
Heather (Where's the Beach) says
Ugh, my garmin DID die on me. Really unhappy about that whole situation. And I hear you on the heat and running. When it’s 73 degrees already and 5:30 am, you definitely remember why you get up so darn early. I started too late on Sunday (around 8:40 b/c I was waiting on hubby) and it was pushing 80 and I was thankful for cloud cover at least!
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
That stalker text is hilarious! I’m not looking forward to the humidity at all. Thankfully, we’ve still had some really mild weather for morning runs. But I can tell my temperature is rising more quickly with this belly to tote around. π
Kimberly @ Healthy Strides says
I lucked out that my watch totally went haywire in the fall last year, making the 220 a perfect Christmas present. I heart it.
My runfession … umm, I’m thinking about the treadmill this week for my tempo and speedwork. I hate this humidity! I feel bad saying it since I said I wouldn’t complain about summer after the terrible winter but …
Nicole@TheGirlWhoRanEverywhere says
This was so funny!! I lol’d about 6 times!!!
misszippy1 says
I have a ridiculous collection of running shoes. Seriously out of control. Just when I think I have found “the one” I try a new one.
Here’s to a new Garmin soon–purple would be lovely!
My runfession–after running a 5k w/ my daughter this weekend pain free, I hoped my PT would let me just launch from there, but sadly he wants me to stick with run/walks. I am impatient and it drives me crazy! But I will be good b/c I want this to work.
Kari @ Running Ricig says
That texting story is hilarious! I can’t even imagine. Did she text back? π
Rachelle Q says
So funny about the texting issue! Just had a major running in the heat fail this weekend. Ugh it sucked!
Robin (Masshole Mommy) says
That’s why I have Siri text for me – I have to say the name I want π
Char says
Ha ha ha. I will be laughing about that texting mistake all day. Mine are never ever as interesting or funny.
Lisa @ RunWiki says
Bawhaha! That is too funny! Poor girl! I am the text mistake queen– my friends have learned to just accept it, but I’ve never had something like that happen. Hilarious.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Too funny about the texting mistake – I’m no good without my cheaters, especially in those early hours!
Abby @ BackAtSquareZero says
I don’t hoard new shoes, just get them as I need them. But I cannot seem to throw them away so I have way too many old pairs.
Kim says
I refuse to count how many pairs of running shoes I currently have – it would be super embarrassing!!!
And, I bought myself the Garmin 220 (purple) the week of my botched 50 – I text Chris after and told him I bought my own Mother’s Day gift. (He had already bought the true gift – oops!!!)
I love it!!!
Carla Be Panicked says
I SHOULD BE RUNNING!!!!!
Kovas - Midwest Multisport Life says
I have quite a few running shoes, but many are being taken out of the rotation in recent weeks.
Lady Lilith says
I like your collection of sneakers. You seem to have one to match every outfit.
Meghan says
HA! I love that story – I’ve definitely texted the wrong people before:) And I am dying for the purple Garmin too, though I don’t really need it at all. Sads.
Jody - Fit at 56 says
I wish I could afford more workout shoes! π
So get the reading glasses!!!!!!!!!
Elle says
Ah, the MAIN reason I don’t text…. and yes, I am running shoe hoarder, but I tend to hoard them and NOT wear them!
Mary @ Fit and Fed says
Cute shoes! Sell the Garmin and get yourself the other one, wouldn’t that be worth it?
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
Ooh–finally catching up on my blogs! I get the shoe thing…I have a pair of hot pink Asics Gel Nimbus in the closet, waiting for me. But my current pair, also on hiatus, is gray and purple. Cute but not hot pink! I hate waiting to break out the cute ones. I don’t rotate my shoes, so it will be a while before you see my hot pink ones!
Jamie @ couchtoironwoman says
BAHAHAHA the texting mistake made me laugh. I’ve done that before, texted my mom instead of Mike. Luckily she was just really confused. I love the cute purple watch, die Garmin die!
Jill says
I NEVER make a texting error!!! π
I just had a garage sale and threw in 20 pairs of old running shoes. Abbey was appalled. But hey, they sold so win-win! (Don’t worry, I still have about 24 pairs).
elizabeth says
i try and get rid of my old shoes…but still seem to have 3-4 pair right now. i’m pretty sure my garmin is dying. My own: I have drawers and drawers of race shirts, but i only like to run in my cute running outfits. so i continue to buy nice ones when I already pay for ugly race shirts.
