It’s ice show weekend here, so while I’m immersed in all things figure skating, I’m going to take the bull by the horns and share the stuff I’m digging right now. Let’s get this party started:
Tribe Sports: Every runner needs some good go-to pieces in their running wardrobe, and this tee and capris sent to me from Tribe Sports fits the bill. The fit and quality are excellent and I love the golden accents. Now wth’s going on with my hair?
I’ve been wearing these pieces for running and workouts for awhile now and there’s been no stretching out of shape, bleeding or fading. What you may find surprising about this outfit is how reasonably priced it is: just $25 for the top and $35 for the capris. Be sure to check out the entire range of workout wear for men and women on the Tribe Sports site.
Meliora K. Laundry Detergent: You already know that one of my goals this year is to change to more natural household products. I’ve had to be really careful with laundry detergent because the Caveman of all people has highly sensitive skin. When Kate, the founder of Meliora K, (woot for a Chicago-based company!) invited me to try her all-natural Right Hand Laundry Soap, I was curious. And hopeful. I have to say it felt odd tossing a scoop of the powder right in my front loading washer, since I’ve been using liquids for so long. I used it on my stuff first. Then the kids’. Then towels and bedding. Finally the Caveman’s laundry. I’m happy to say Meloria K passed my test with flying colors, even on the almighty workout clothes!
Under Armour Heart Rate Monitor. Really it’s more than just a heart rate monitor. You start by taking an assessment, which is repeated monthly to account for your changes in fitness. From there your workout zones are calculated. Next you tell it how hard you want to be working out. The monitor works with an app on your smart phone and shows you in real time how hard you’re working out so you can increase or decrease accordingly. At the end it gives you a percent of maximum: kind of a report card on how you did. Very cool. Plus I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like its Wonder Woman-like appearance.
Addaero Coaching System. I was introduced to Addaero when I used Race Ready Coaching to train for the Lincoln Presidential Half. My coach used it to send me my workouts online. I’d log and see my plan for the day, week, month along with notes on exercise form, heart rate zones, strategy and more. It syncs with your Garmin, Fitbit and more so workout stats go into the system automatically. Addaero can be used by coaches to communicate workouts online, but there are also running, cycling and triathlon training plans available directly for those who are self-coached. You know I’m um, a bit of a tech flunky, but I had no problem navigating through the screens with zero instruction. There’s a free trial on the Addaero website that I highly recommend.
Have you tried any of these? What are you raving about this month?

I’ve not tried any of these. I honestly don’t know what’s reasonable and what’s not as far as workout gear. I know what I won’t spend and these prices seem much more reasonable compared to others.
Right now I’m taking a break from my electronic tracking devices. I get too focused on the numbers.

I have to say that I really hate when people smell like laundry detergent. I’ve become pretty sensitive to smells, and when I’m shut in a tiny exam room with someone who uses stinky detergent, I get nauseous! Funny thing is, those are kids who come in with rashes and I always tell them to switch to unscented stuff. Why do our clothes have to smell?

Finding quality gear for a reasonable price is always a challenge. I thought I’d found some great running shorts for only $25 but when I wore them I realised the built-in briefs were about four sizes bigger than the short size and did nothing. The shorts were fine once I’d cut the briefs out.

Good to know about those capri’s from tribesports. I have yet to try & I still have never found the perfect pair of capri’s that I don’t have to constantly fiddle with to stay put!
I’ve never used a heart rate monitor b/c it feel like “1 more thing”. However, I ‘m sure it’d give me a better workout if I would monitor how hard I was working.
I may have to try the addero coaching system. Love the free start & that it’s easy….
Thanks.

Wow–those are amazing prices on the capris/tees! And they look great on you. And I love the sounds of that HRM. As I ease back into running it’s time to break out the HRM again and face the MAF music.

I need to get out my HRM again too!

I haven’t used any of these, but I love the capris so cute! The only new thing I have used this month is my 910xt watch, I love it! Except that I had some user error during our triathlon this past weekend, but at least it wasn’t the Ironman!
