Here’s how training went last week: When I strayed from the plan, what I actually did is shown in blue.
Total Mileage: 30 run, 20 bike
Monday: Yoga
Tuesday: 3 miles easy trail run, upper body strength
Wednesday:ย 6 miles pace ladder
Thursday: 8 miles w/2×1.5 miles @tempo pace
Friday: Rest
Saturday: Running drills 5k race
Sunday: 10 miles (3×20 min. @HMP) 10 miles slow + lower body strength, 20 miles on the bike
Everyday: Pushups and Corework
I know what my coach is up to. He’s piling on quality back-to-back workouts in hopes I’ll somehow build stamina sufficient to make it thru the Flying Pig 3-way. It was a challenging week. This week brings much of the same. I’m doing my best to pretend I’m a 5 run/week kind of girl but I’m already fantasizing about a short ‘runbattical’ following Flying Pig.
Triumphs:
- The bunny for once, did not overbuy, er I mean bring too much candy.
- I stayed away from chocolate for the duration of lent…except for what happened on the spring break cruise…but still…minimal chocolate there too.ย
Frustrations:
- I know weight is just a number. But is a picture worth a thousand words? Because yours truly saw her recent race pics and got a rude awakening. Although I won’t be launching an all-out assault during training, stay tuned for some developments on the weightloss front.ย
- We had a milestone in the extended family last weekend when my eldest niece was confirmed. What frustrated me is that nobody beyond her immediate family was invited. It is not for me to judge others or advise people how to celebrate, but at the same time, as her aunt and Godmother, I would’ve loved to share in that rite of passage. Just putting it out here because it baffles me and now I’m moving on.
Congrats to Meb, Rita and everyone who ran The Boston Marathon!ย

Great mileage Marcia! Yes I would think the Godmother would be invited to the confirmation. Watching Boston was amazing! So exciting:)

Love the name: “Three Way Challenge” very Cincy! Good luck with the training!

Nice work there! I am and probably always will be a 4-day run week girl. I did three last week, though, and it was delicious.
Maybe it’s just my family but I wholeheartedly agree about the Confirmation/party. I have a very big, Catholic family but I think everyone was invited to attend the ceremony and celebration. I don’t think everyone came but it was always open to my godparents (who are also an aunt and uncle).

I’d just like to say it sucks that you (I) exercise as much as you (I) do and still have to watch what you’re (I’m) eating.

So sorry about the fact that you didn’t get to be part of such an important day. I think that we must have some similar issues in our families. (My sister had a new baby Saturday and as of today my mom hasn’t even called her.)
I hear you on the running so much – you can do it though – not much longer and you are doing great!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
Ugh on the whole family drama. Why wouldn’t the Godmother be invited to a confirmation?
On the other hand, you didn’t tell me that you ran AND biked on Sunday! I hadn’t considered that…but I was wondering how you were getting your hat trick training in! Great work!

Those running workouts look tough. Of course, I haven’t run in a week. It’s going to be ugly when I start up again, which won’t be until my side heals from this weekend’s crash.
The family drama is a bummer. I agree that it’s a shame not to give close family the opportunity to share in milestones. And weight…bleh.

I just ran 32 miles on Saturday and I swear I gained 8 lbs. SWEAR! Blah.
I got a little card in the mail today – woohoo! Thank you, thank you, thank you! You are the best Louise a Thelma could ever ask for.
Oh and while I’m just tying out a personal email in your comment section….I’ve been running trails with Melissa once/week and your name comes up frequently. She said you need to come out and do a trail run with us :). (she wondered if you were doing Boston, and then the whole T&L tales came out :)).
Thank you! ๐ ๐ ๐

The Easter Bunny over here really overdelivered and I’m home all day with the easter baskets…They won’t be around for very long.

Hi Marcia, this is the 1st time I have ever read your blog. I feel like I will like you already! It sucks when you get left out of things like that with your niece. I know sometimes people mean well but it gets misinterpretted. Still sucks and I have been in those siguations a plenty of times. Keep up with your running, sounds like you had a great workout week!
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
Wow, some pretty intense workouts! Part of me can’t wait to push myself like that again… another part is enjoying this laid back stage of “training”. ๐
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Wow Marcia that’s a pretty serious training week! The family drama is hard – had some of that here lately…not fun. Hope you have another great week!
kilax says
Wow. I am surprised you were not invited to the confirmation, too.
I recently had the appearance shock too. Not with pictures. I am used to how I look! But with none of my summer bottoms fitting right. LOL. I might just buy bigger ones ๐

Marcia-
That’s an impressive workout week!
Kuddos to you! I hate weighing myself & actually only do at the dr.’s office when necessary. However, I can tell by the fit of my clothes & it’s so darn true that the older we get, the thicker we get. Well, at least it’s true with me. So darn frustrating. If you find a cure, please share! I can’t wait to hear…..

Nice workouts this week!
