Vote: Yesterday I learned that this blog had been nominated for the 50 top Health and Fitness Blogs of 2014. It’s an honor to be among such a great group of friends. Thanks so much to those of you who already voted. If you’d like to vote, please do so here. You can vote daily, in case you were wondering. There’s nothing to sign up for, just a simple click. Just find Marcia’s Healthy Slice listed alphabetically. I’d really appreciate it.
Let Loose: Just when things are ramping up, track season started, ice show rehearsals are in full swing, I was asked how I let loose. Me? Loose? Um not so much.
My idea of letting loose is compression socks and kombucha after a run.
Or if you really twist my arm, a girls’ getaway weekend to a destination race.
Or a cruise. You know I love me some cruise action. Did I hear Vegas? I’m not a gambler, but I have enjoyed a Las Vegas junket or 3 in my time. This non-gambler hits up the mostly-vacant strip at dawn for what else? A run.
I also dig some retail therapy at the Forum Shops at Cesar’s Palace. Gotta love that fake sky…and the hot gladiator who stands sentry at the hotel entrance….
The hotel gyms, pools and spas are pretty fabulous too. Who doesn’t love gazing at those crazy fountains at the Bellagio? I enjoy some great food and maybe one glass of wine with friends. I drink about as much as I gamble. I like to see shows too, especially Cirque du Soleil.
I don’t think I’ve gone to Vegas without taking a trip over to Hoover Dam. It’s just 31 miles away or so. Kind of an ultra marathon if you’re up for it.
How do you let loose? Have you been to Las Vegas? What do you enjoy there?
Workout: As runners it’s easy to focus on all running all the time and neglect everything else. We all know though that a strong core makes our running better, stronger, faster….like the Bionic Man…there I go showing my age again. Here’s a quick core workout from my friends at Tribe Sports. Enjoy!

My sister and I went to Vegas last fall for her 50th birthday. It was my first trip to Vegas, can you believe it? We had a blast. We’re not big gamblers or partiers, in fact we were in bed by 10 every night! I didn’t run when I was there (I promised her I wouldn’t) and as I scoped out the strip, I saw what a challenge a run would be! There’s a nurses’ half marathon there in the fall and I’d love to do that one.

The Bionic Man was one of my ‘must watch’ shows every week. Showing my age too.

I love Vegas – craps, shopping and free drinks?! And it’s so sparkly and blingy!!!

going to vote now! I let loose with the girls typically with cocktails and live music. and, oddly enough, I don’t love vegas. I’ve been twice but it doesn’t really appeal to me.

OMG, memories of HILLS in California are flooding my head! I will never forget Meg saying, “it’s not that hilly.” WHAT? Haha. Great weekend (aside from your delayed flight, and other oddities … but the Slurpees on the beach were awesome :)). We SO need to kidnap Tara and go somewhere fun again. Let’s plan something soon!!!!
