Ok I don’t shuffle every single day, but that’s the word that best describes my training week. The stuff in green was on my coaching plan. The stuff in red did not happen. Things in purple were added to compensate.
Total Miles: 20
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Race Pace Intervals, Corework
Wednesday Run 40 minutes easy. 1 mile run, Drills and Corework
Thursday Speedwork 8x400m, Corework
Friday: Drills +3 miles
Saturday: Run easy 1 hour. Did this on the mill for #megsmiles
Sunday: Drills. Heavy weights
Wednesday’s run didn’t quite pan out according to plan. My workout turned out to a barely better than nothing (BBTN) mash of drills. Then I pasted in 3 more miles on the other drill day and called it good. Not what my coach intended, but the miles and drills are in.
Do you ever shuffle your training plan?
If you’re a facebook fan, you may have seen my frantic post about having $30 in Dick’s cash expiring within hours. What to get? What to get? Many of you had great ideas. Plus Nike Pro stuff (hello patterned tights and capris) was ON SALE! Loads of clearance stuff too. But in the end, chalk it up to my natural benevolence, sporting goods overload, nut butter fog (or insanity, not sure which), I ended up giving my Dick’s cash to the Caveman, who put it toward this beast:
Yes, a Rumble Roller. A $70 Rumble Roller to be exact. I can’t lie, $70 for some treaded cylindrical foam sent me into cheapskate convulsions, even if we did have the $30 discount. After some deep breaths, I consented and we dragged said rumbler home. So far I like it for all body parts, except my ITB cannot handle the torture…yet…
Have you tried a Rumble Roller? What is exciting for you this week?
misszippy1 says
I hurt just looking at that piece of torture! But it’s probably an awesome tool to have. I think having to switch up days on a schedule is a normal thing and quite ok…life does get in the way of running sometimes!
Andrea says
I move things around all the time on my plans. I fit them in where I can. Sometimes I cheat and do it on a Sunday for the next week!
Wendy says
I don’t have a rumbler but I do have a trigger point roller! Similar device of torture. My husband hurt his back and I offered it to him, to which he replied that I’d have to call 911 if he used it—hurts so bad. Wimp! ;P
Looking at this week’s forecast and seething…looks like intervals on the ‘mill tomorrow, long run Sat instead of Sunday. Yesterday’s long run really tested my dedication. Those adventure runs (tough mudder, etc) have got nothing on winter running!

Marcia, you must have seen my IG post on the Rumbleroller!! I have used it for 2 years & one of the best things I have & like way better than foam rolling! 🙂 I got mine free from them a couple years ago – I have the black & blue ones.. ow I have their beasties & love!!! You can ease in to the ITB.. that is what I did when I first got it.. eased in by not putting as much pressure on the roll & gradually increased & now I use the firm black one! 🙂
Kari @ Running Ricig says
That roller is terrifying. I don’t even like the non-treaded one I have.
I’ve only really followed a full training plan once. Usually, I just pull the long runs from a plan and wing it for mid-week runs.
Heather (Where's the Beach) says
I have a triggerpoint kit and their Grid roller. I’ve not tried the rumbleroller. And sadly, I would love to! LOL
Black Knight says
Unfortunately I cannot follow a plan. It depends by the pain inside the knee or the back. If the pain is there I swim otherwise I run.
Never seen a rumble roller
thedoseofreality says
Well, of course, I must know what it does! It looks kind of scary! ;)-Ashley
Rachelle Q says
Ouch, that looks painful! I have “the grid” and it hurts too:/ Wishing I had bought a regular old foam roller and worked my way up to the grid;)
Carla says
As much as I don’t want to shuffle, I do because of work. I’m feeling ya. I also have to admit that running on the treadmill is less than satisfactory. I hope it’s warm when I get home tonight.
I think I might love the rumble roller. I like some deep tissue message.
Jill says
I’m sorta on a ‘get up and see how I feel and run accordingly’ plan – it seems to work a bit better for me than a structured plan I can’t follow. So far, it’s good and I’m getting in the mileage…but a long way to go.
We have that torture device at work and I look at it but would never even think of using it. I’m sure I’d end up injured. 🙂
Carly @ Fine Fit Day says
That roller looks horrendous/fantastic. I have a tiger tail and a regular foam roller, both of which are pretty torturous, so I can only begin to imagine how painful this one feels!
Kim says
I have a couple of foam rollers and one that has some “texture” but not like the rumble roller. If I actually used what I have more I might try the big-boy one but for now…..
MILF Runner says
I want that big lumpy bumpy painful-looking thing.
Isn’t life all about shuffling? Our willingness and ability to shuffle might be our measure of success 🙂
Robin (Masshole Mommy) says
That looks painful. Ouchie.
Char says
I got a rumble roller for Christmas a couple of years ago and I still can’t cope with it on my ITB. Great for the glutes and hammies but when it comes to the ITB I am a wuss.
Elle says
I won a Rumble Roller and I love it… but I am only gently getting used to it!
Jamie @ couchtoironwoman says
We always move our training plan around! We like being flexible, but still try to do most things on the days we are supposed to.
I’ve never used a rumble roller, but it looks intense!
kilac says
Whoa! I have not seen that kind of roller before and it looks awesome!
elizabeth says
that rumble roller is down right MEAN. it hurts….so good 🙂 this week-nada. my job took TN away so less travel? I guess that’s good.
