I’m linking up with Miss Zippy today and doing a running year in review.
It was the Β best of times:
Crewed for Jill in the Leadville Silver Rush 50 miler and celebrated her podium finish. What could be better than seeing dear friends fulfill their dreams?
Ran RnR Chi on Team REFUEL again. No Bachelor running date this year though.
12 races total:
- 7 5k
- 4 Half Marathon
- 1 10 Miler
AG awards
- 1st: 3
- 2nd: 1
- 3rd: 1
Here’s this year’s bling. Not too shabby for a cutback year I guess.
Here are my favorite medals of the year. The Chicago Women’s (left) was my fastest half of the year (1:57). I think the Soldier Field 10-miler (right) was my overall favorite race.
Here’s some favorite non-medal AG bling. I was also lucky enough to score a $50 Dick’s GC and a stash of Power Bar goodies.
It was the worst of times:
I exhibited ‘too much enthusiasm’ in a salsa funk class and came away with a torn rotator cuff that wreaked havoc on a few races.
As if the rotator wasn’t enough, my heart started being weird and irregular. Failed holter monitor lead to a nuclear stress test lead to a layoff from serious running. This coincided with the heat of summer so not all bad. Glass is always half full.
It was a cutback year from the marathon. My goal was to run none. Mission accomplished.Β
That didn’t stop me from spectating though. Here’s Mr. P and I at the Chicago Marathon.
This was the year of Thing 1’s first 5k…
…and my first time pacing her (to a podium spot no less)…
…even though she smoked me at the finish line.
It was a year of very little Garmin usage….
…and lots of breathtaking trails.
So my cutback year is almost over. Who knows what 2014 has in store?
So far it has:
- May: Flying Pig Skyline Chili Challenge (5k, 10k, half)
- July Espirit de She 5k
- November: New York City Marathon
How was your year? What’s in store for 2014?
Your cut back year was WAY more racing than my year :). Those are some seriously awesome AG wins!
I think having cutback periods is essential to staving off burnout. I pull the pace based running from mine to get the same effect. Looks like you had a really beautiful and productive year. π
For a cutback year you kicked some serious asphalt π Can’t wait to see how your marathon training goes!
That was a stellar running year if you ask me. Not sure how far back you cut it but there were way more races there than I did and I was having a good year.
Aww! Great year! And I love seeing all your medals layed out! Women’s Half was one of my fave too! I hope 2014 is a great year without injury and health scares for you! π
I had a good year too! So many fun races and surprisingly, a few PRs! I am doing some new to me races in 2014! π
I like your challenge. I would love to do something like that.
That is a cutback year??? π I know – you are a runner! Nice job!!!!
I have very much enjoyed following along with your running year!! You had a super year – some variety and a lot of great AG places!!!
Can’t wait to follow along again in 2014!
I’m glad I got to see you so much this year! Not sure which time I liked better– the halfway point of the Chicago Marathon or all of the good hang-out time at Jill’s triumphant Silver Rush. Your 2014 looks like it will be great, too. You’re the best!
i always love your instagram trail pics. π you still had a great 2013 running year with it being a “no marathon” year. Honestly, mine pretty much sucked…so bring on 2014!
I’d say you do a cutback year well! Lots of weird blips on the screen but you overcame it all and crushed it. And I love that you crewed Jill this year–you are a great match up!
Thanks for linking up.
Look at all those medals!!!! Way to go.
Sounds like a fabulous year.
I’m going to do a year in review at some point too.
It was a fun year for you! I feel so blessed that we were able to meet. I know it wasn’t a run, or even for very long meeting, but it was thrilling and meant to be!
Wow you had a great year Marcia! Mine, not so much:( I plan to be back to rock it in 2014:)
Pretty amazing for a cutback year, imagine if you did it full time!
You had a great year! Sometimes you need to change it up, and you definitely accomplished year of the 5K like you wanted!
Love the trail photos!
What a busy and accomplished year! I can’t imagine how awesome it was to see Leadville in action. I’m excited you are doing the Pig. It’s tempting me each time I see you post about it.
Loving these posts. What I see is a theme of ups and downs and triumphs no matter what. Runners are so resilient.
Nice cutback year! Beautiful trail pictures!
Nice medals! This year I want to start running some shorter races – and one longer one: NY Marathon in November – Hope my tummy can hold on for the training! It’s a birthday present I’d like to give myself since I turn 50 2 weeks before the race!!
12 races, 5 times on the podium! You are a super champ!
Beautiful medals. I have lost all my bling when I changed house!
What a great cutback year full of races and lots of AG awards, too!
Still a busy year for a “cutback” one! Those trail pics – who wouldn’t want to lace up and run seeing that? Gorgeous!
