It’s been cold pretty much everywhere. Getting out to run has been no picnic. I got out yesterday for 7 or 8. After being in the single digits, 19 degrees was a balmy treat. It was one of those runs that just felt right. No urge to stop in the first mile. No longing to cut it short. My breathing was easy and even. 7 became 8, I felt so good I found my way to one of my 2 hills. I’m blessed with two–flatlanders can’t be choosers. Snow fell softly. It was cold but not too cold. Windy but not too windy. Pretty perfect actually. Other than a couple of deer and lots of geese, I didn’t see a soul. I waited for the crash and burn but my body never protested. It was peaceful. Meditative. 9 miles and still strong. I picked it up and made mile 10 my fastest of the day. Where did this come from? In the zone. Wish I could bottle runs like those.
I broke down and got myself a treat. After seeing Rumbleroller’s Beastie Ball all over Instagram I bought myself one. My high hamstrings are notorious for causing trouble so what better device to dig on up in there? The kids call it ‘mommy’s butt ball’. I know the dogs are just dying to chew it up. I’ll let you know how it goes.
We’re halfway thru Elf4Health. The first round ended yesterday. I thought it would be a fun festive way to ‘meet’ other bloggers, and it is. What I didn’t know was how much I would truly enjoy it. We’ve taken on challenges like eating the rainbow, operation beautiful, I’ve done a pantry purge, cleaned out my fridge, freezer, and because I’m a bit of an over achiever sometimes, I purged the linen closet too. Today’s challenge is to do a circuit workout. Here’s mine:
I am away at U.S. Figure Skating Assoc. testing today and am hoping yesterday’s snow will not impact my travel too much. What is fun for you this week? Did you have a perfect run?

I think my piriformis NEEEDS a beastie ball!!!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I’m with Carla I think my piriformis could use that ball too!
Sounds like you had a perfect run! Hope it’s a good sign of things to come 🙂
Wendy says
I love those runs! That’s what brings us back for more, gets us through the bad ones.
Lisa says
I got in a run, and with my days counting day until the injections, that’s about as perfect as it gets right now for me.
Kari @ Running Ricig says
That run sounds glorious…minus the 19 degrees part!
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
Brrr~ that’s a lot colder than we’ve had, but I know it’s coming. So glad you’re enjoying Elf4Health!

Living vicariously through you and that run. Sounds lovely. As much as I don’t like winter, I do like a run in fresh snowfall. And now I think I will get one of those little gadgets–high hamstring help? Yes!
Carilyn Johnson (@CarilynJohnson) says
I LOVE those kinds of runs! The best! And I, too, seem to suffer in my high hamstrings 🙂 – must be a runner thing. The gizmo looks like it would work way better than a tennis ball in the car.
Rachelle Q says
Congrats on your awesome run! I so wish we could bottle those too:)
Jamie @ couchtoironwoman says
OOH that ball thing looks great!
We ran 13.4ish miles on trails this weekend, it was cold but we warmed up as soon as we started running!

So glad you had a great run! That circuit workout looks intense – I cannot wait until I can run again. I’ll have to give it a shot!
Clarinda @ Enjoying the Course says
Love it when a perfect run rolls around. I’d definitely say my marathon on Saturday was pretty close to perfect. Not that it wasn’t tough, too.
Char says
Your run sounded wonderful. I love runs like that – when you feel strong all the way through and fatigue just doesn’t seem to happen. They’re what keep you coming back for more.
Kim says
Hooray for such a perfect run – those are the ones that keep us going, right??
Are you skating or just there with the girls? Safe travels!!!
MILF Runner says
Do you want a new Boston Marathon treadmill? Just say the word and I’ll do my best to get you one. It won’t be pretty and it probably won’t be effective, but it will be so much fun!
Tink says
Gotta love runs that just work. I still can’t believe you drag yourself out there in those temps!
Kovas - Midwest Multisport Life says
Love those kinds of runs, though they’re usually few and far between
Jody - Fit at 56 says
LOVE my rumblerollers & my beasties – I have a few of the products & love them all – hurts too good! 🙂
elizabeth says
ooh, do you think the rumble roller beastie thing is better than the trigger point ball??
Karen@ La Chanson de Ma Vie says
Evil little ball of torture. My butt is shaking just thinking about it.
Carla says
I hope one day that I can go out in the freezing cold and run 10 miles effortlessly! You make it sound so fun and easy and peaceful.
Love your circuit workout. It incorporates a good amount of moves.
