I picked the perfect weekend to lay off the racing because our weather left much to be desired. Β The wind was wicked all weekend, culminating in a string of tornadoes on the ground yesterday. While we were lucky enough to only be without power for awhile, others fared far worse. Thoughts and prayers to all of my Midwestern friends and everyone affected. Somehow I wedged in a run. Fighting the wind was definitely a challenge and the lightning and thunder in the distance turned it into more of a progression run than long slow distance. But it was a balmy 68 degrees so I enjoyed some rare tank top weather for this time of year. I ran in honor of the veterans in my life. A grandfather I never knew because he was killed in action, and so many more. When the wind raged, I thought of the sacrifices our veterans make every day.
I finally got my holiday drink on at Starbucks this weekend too. Thanks to all of you who gave me tips for reducing the sugar and calorie punch, I overcame my special-order phobia and got a half-sweet gingerbread latte with no whip cream. It was delicious. I got Thing 2 the cookie you see here: She took all of two bites and was done. I’m pretty sure it’s not in my DNA to take two bites of a delicious cookie and walk away. That damn snowman more than made up for the half-sweet exercise….oh well. From here on out though, it’s back to black Christmas blend for me.
What did you do this weekend? Did you race? Was the weather bad?
Remember tomorrow and every Tuesday for the rest of the year we are making One Small Change. Join us!

I couldn’t even imagine running this weekend. The weather was SO nasty. But Starbucks? YES. I think I had 3 caramel brulee lattes:)

Glad you are okay. Horrible, horrible storms out your way.
We actually had relatively nice weather. It was overcast and a bit windy, but not too cold. Husband & I went to the zoo Saturday morning! π

Good to hear you made it through ok!! Weather was very mild here and I managed 4 pain-free miles – wahoo!

I was so happy my marathon was last Sunday, not yesterday! I feel so bad for all those affected by the nutso storms π
Gosh. I cannot leave a cookie like that. Even if it tastes bad, I would still eat it! lol
Pete B says
I can’t even eat just 2 cookies in a sitting, much less 2 bites! I guess I have no willpower! π
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
It was strangely warm in Philly, almost 60 degrees! A bit too warm for the marathoners, but perfect for the rest of us.
Elle says
Glad you found a Starbuck’s drink to enjoy… yah. That darned whip cream! But I am sure you did’t miss it. I love the look of those cookies but I haven’t had one.
Kimberly @ Healthy Strides says
That sky is nuts! Glad you got in a run safely. We (husband, M in stroller + me) went for a run in the morning in the hopes that we’d beat the rain. We got about two miles when it started coming down. The last mile and a half was a fartlek, speeding when it was raining and recovering in a few breaks. Not quite the run we’d hoped for!

We were up in New Hampshire this weekend. The weather was gorgeous Friday & Saturday, but a little sprinkly yesterday when we left. This morning we woke up to a monsoon LOL. It’s all cleared up now, though.
Char says
The weather’s been pretty ordinary here for a week. We’ve had storms every evening. Luckily, I’m a morning runner so it hasn’t interfered at all.

We rode 111 miles on Sunday, and the wind was TERRIBLE. My face is sore and windburned today. I’d worried about the possibility of storms (rain, thunder, lightning) and wind making riding difficult, but wind damage to trees etc didn’t occur to me. There were a TON of trees down, and in retrospect the ride was probably more reckless/foolhardy than toughing out yucky conditions.

I’m not sure how people can drink the syrupy sweet Starbucks drinks either. They taste awful to me. I do like the vanilla blonde roast coffee though. A little sweet without the coffee being overpowered.

We got up over 70 on Saturday and in the mid 60s yesterday but the wind both days was crazy!!! Chris was going to take advantage of the warmer weather and do the Christmas lights (so they are ready for the day after Thanksgiving!!) but the wind made it a bit dangerous since he walks around on the roof – he’s actually out there working on them right now!!!
Jody - Fit at 56 says
2 bites – not in my DNA either – if I like it! π
So glad you are safe!!!!!
Wendy says
I sure enjoyed that 68 degree run yesterday am. And now I feel guilty because omg what happened a couple hours later…
I can’t do the sweet Starbucks drinks at all. The most I go for is a vanilla soy latte.
Kenley says
68 degrees. Awesome. I just started a training phase on Sunday! That cookie looks pretty darn tasty!!!!!!!!!!!
Mike says
Running in shorts and short sleeves (no sleeves) in November is always nice, even with the wind.
That weather was crazy.
Tink says
2 bites and she walked away!? Is she human!? Good for her! I didn’t run, but after being doped up on too much excedrin Friday night, I ended up doing a double on the elliptical on Saturday morning. That’s right, 2 entire elliptical sessions in one. That’s over 2 hours. Maybe I’m not human either!

Abbey brings home those damn snowman cookies from Starbucks a lot! I am going to have to disown here soon!
Crazy weather there over the weekend – so glad you’re ok.
Carla says
We had the horrible winds here as well and lots of warnings but it was those in Illinois that really suffered the damage. The temperature was unusually warm and I saw a lot of people out walking but I just don’t know how you ran in it. I went to the gas station and had to get help getting in and out because I wasn’t strong enough to fight the door against the wind. One women was laughing pretty hard at me, luckily her husband saw my dilemma and helped out. π
