I put on my big girl pants yesterday…and my wind pants and base layer and half zip, jacket, balaclava, head band, hat, basically the full arsenal of running gear was out in force yesterday to brave 12 degree temps. All we were missing was some snow to top it off. I am no stranger to running in these temps (hello Boston training cycles), yet, like childbirth, I have only faint memories of doing so. Truth be told, because winds were minimal and roads were clear, it was really quite pleasant. I managed to keep myself completely toasty and content. I also remembered my formula for winter running: 1 mile per degree. So if it’s 12 degrees, I can run 12 miles outside. If I have more mileage to do, I do that on the mill. Do you have a cold weather cut-off?
11 deg seems to be as cold as i can handle. at that point it starts to hurt my lungs and my eyeballs feel like they are about to freeze. lol
but really, it all depends on if there is wind and how much.
I actually think you live in your big-girl pants, unlike some of us. Good job! :^)
Wow that is cold and you are brave! It is in the 30’s here and I am too wimpy to run out there:/ Great job!
I agree with you. Yesterday was not so horrible. I did 10, the sun was shining…felt great!
I think the coldest I tolerated last winter was 10 degrees – we haven’t reached that here yet. As long as there is no wind I can deal with it, but once the wind kicks in I wimp out!
I remember contemplating wearing a puffy down jacket for cold run one time. I didn’t do it though. I can’t believe someone failed to claim #freeshit! WTF???? That’s blogging sacrilege right there.
I think it was 15 degrees out this morning when I ran and I was pretty much wearing every piece of running gear I own. I only did three miles outside and then did the rest inside, but I give myself points for going out at all. It is ridiculous out there!
Did I miss a post? What is the Elf4Health? I think the coldest temperature I ever had to run in was 24 degrees. My chin always gets so cold! I’m not really a fan of the cold weather.
While it gets a little cold in El Paso, it never gets very cold in LA, so I really don’t have any experience in cold weather running. I think the coldest temperature I’ve ever run in was 18 degrees (in El Paso) and that was a freak situation so it was super cold because none of us owned in warm gear ๐ Miserable!
I don’t have a cold weather cut-off for one good reason. And it’s not because I’m hard-core. We just don’t have weather that’s cold enough to warrant it. I didn’t even wear a long-sleeved running top at all last winter.
Yesterday was so cold. Mainly because of the wind which was unreal. I felt I needed a medal just for participating in the race. No cut off but wouldn’t have wanted to go far yesterday.
It was in the 40’s here & I considered that cold.. ๐
12 degrees? Sounds pretty cold! I don’t have a limit because it doesn’t get that cold here in southeast Texas.
Ummm…I think under 32 is my cut-off!!! Except I told my sis-in-law that I would run all of her miles with her while she is here and it might be colder than 32 when we run – ugh!!
If it’s 12 I’m not going – I don’t have big girl pants!!!
I’m such a cold weather wimp. But, I’m sure I could get used to cold eventually. Never wind. I hate wind.
Good job, my badass friend ๐
I can’t get myself to run outside when it’s 40 anymore, what a wuss I’ve become. God bless the treadmill. You are awesome…and I miss you like mad!
You are brave. I can’t breathe when I run outside in the cold once the weather gets under 45 or so.
So, when its 65 out do you run 65 miles ๐
I can’t believe you went out there in 12 degrees….AND managed to call it toasty! I don’t go out below 25, no way!
When it’s that cold I can barely run from the car to the office door. And I have a space heater on in the garage. I’m a wimp!
I really want some hard boiled eggs now. Yum!
