Miles Run: 62
Mile on bike: 92
Miles walking: 8
Fitness: Plenty of leg and core workouts, but since I’m a schlock, I did not log so nothing official.
Animal encounters: 2 dogs, 2 snakes (one dead, one very much alive. I am scarred for life).
Races: Two 5ks
Podium Finishes: 2. because I rock…and the grandmaster AG has been kind to me.
Heart tests: 2. Holter monitor(fail) nuclear stress (pass!)
Taffy apples: 2. Hopefully more this month.
Kombuchas: 6, but who’s counting?
Near death experiences: 2 on the bike.
Books: 1! Reading Race Across the Sky
Ailments: I hate to whine about this but when I do any upper body weight training (other than push-ups) at all, my shoulder with the rotator cuff injury kills to the point where it hurts to run the next day. So upper body workouts have been lame to non-existent.
Testosterone and Vitamin D are still low. I’m thinking I’ll have to megadose the D again this winter. Not sure yet what to do about the low T.
Final Words: September was my highest mileage month since April. I’ve enjoyed winging it on no training plan to speak of. Oddly I’m not feeling pangs of anything watching everyone taper for their marathons. Sitting this year out was the right choice for me. I started MAF training last week which, although boring, is going well I suppose. Time will tell.
October: Only a couple of 5ks on the docket so far this month. In a perfect world I’d like to shave another couple of minutes from my current 5k time. That would put me nowhere near my PB but it’s where I think I can be. I am toying with building up for a Thanksgiving half. Not sure there’s time for that but we’ll see.
How did your September shake out? What’s on tap this month?

Congrats on getting your mileage back up, AND for having the right kind of year for you. That’s what it’s all about.
Keep me posted on your MAF. I was bored at first, too, but it got better, especially once you start seeing progress around the 1-month mark. Keeps you going.

That’s A LOT of miles on the bike. Good for you. I know bike riding isn’t easy.

The ONLY way to train for the Leadville 100, Louise, is to MAF train. 🙂

Looks like you had a good mix of activities in September. I really need to get back on my bike. I fell off of the cross training wagon and need to get back at it. Great job on all of your 5K’s!

Good job on the bike!
Cute lululemon top! We have same! 🙂

You had a great September! I’ll be curious to see how the MAF training plays out for you – good luck with it!

Boo on the ongoing shoulder pain – that is not cool. A friend of mine had something similar (she isn’t a runner though) and just a couple of weeks ago had her shoulder joint cleaned out – it seems to be helping.
September was a pretty high mileage month for me – 44 miles in one run will do that, I guess.

A very good month with the number 2 as symbol.
2 races, 2 podium, 2 snakes, 2 dogs and 2 pictures of you!

So exciting you’re on the MAF bandwagon – stick with it, you’ll love it in a month!

LOL at Jill’s comment. That looks like a great September, Marcia. I think you’re being smart (as well as successful–congrats on those AG victories).

Great workouts! When I hurt my shoulder back in January, it was ages before I could do any strength workouts on it…well, I haven’t actually started again, but I DID manage a ridiculous amount of pushups during the Tour de France, so I know I could now. Hopefully your injury finishes healing up, but in the meantime sounds like you’re getting in plenty of other workouts.
I LOVE candy apples!
September was fun. Not as much mountain biking as Aug since I was back in school, but cyclocross kept me on a bike. Otherwise it was all school and occasional runs. October will be VERY busy, though. Cyclocross, half marathon this Saturday, 10 hour race on the 19th…bring it on!

You are amazing – WOW! I get tired just reading it!!! 🙂
UGH on the shoulder though – 🙁

I am registered for no races in October. Triathlon and half withdrawl. Hmm. That ‘s spelled wrong but at the moment it’s beyond me. I went back on the route where I saw 15 snakes and tonight only 2 dead ones. Much better. So much better.
Fun to have two podium finishes! Yay you.

That was a pretty stellar month for you even with the lack of upper body stuff. But if it hurts and stops you from running you definitely should be giving it a miss. As my physio says – don’t hunt for your pain.

I shriek like a little kid when I see snakes :-).
I haven’t formally done MAF training but for the last three months, my running has been slow enough that I can run with my mouth closed. My easy, not breathing hard pace dropped a full minute per mile. Hope you have similar results.
