Forgive me body for I have sinned. It has been 3 days since my last run. Gasp! I may not be the best eater, I may be far from the fastest runner, but one thing is for sure. I will get out and run 3x/week….even if it’s a leaden, snail-paced one laced with profanity.
At least that’s how it’s been until Tuesday when my window of time dedicated to running was filled with a marathon phone call with a friend in need. Happy to be there for her. Wouldn’t change a thing. Could I have run at a different time? Yes, but it wouldn’t be the long run I wanted to make up after last weekend’s 5k. So I opted for tomorrow.
Tomorrow came and Thing 2 woke up sick. The run I so badly needed went up in a puff of the vaporizer. Could I have done it on the mill? Yes, but I didn’t. We took a relaxed nature walk together instead. I don’t regret that one bit either, except now I’m sluggish and testy and guilty.
What are your excuses? Here are some of mine:
- I’ll do it tomorrow
- There’s not enough time
- Traffic is too backed up to get to the gym
- I’m not sure who’s teaching yoga today
- I’ll be too sore for my run
Do you ever make excuses? Tell me you do. What are they? Oh and for the record. I’M OUT RUNNING!

If I don’t get it done, my excuses are usually pretty valid. Like yesterday, for instance, I always try to workout at lunch because that time works best for me. Yesterday, my MIL came for an eye exam during my lunch hour so I did that instead. I got out of work early to see my kiddo play field hockey and then we went out to eat with MIL and SIL afterward. Sometimes, you just have to do those things and skip the run. Today will be more of the same, staff meeting at work, then fh practice tonight (I coach little kids), so not likely to be running today either. I just need to have kids that are slugs and play video games all day and then I’d have plenty of time for running….:P

I’ve only run once this week and it was less than 4 miles AND I skipped my long run last weekend, too. I’ve just decided to let this week be a lazy one.

I am using my shoulder injury as my excuse wagon!! I am sooooo ready to jump off of it though

I make excuses all the time!
1. I’m too tired.
2. I have too many chores to do.
3. It’s too cold.
4. It’s too hot;)
Etc. etc.
Hope you had a great run!

Oh my! I haven’t run yet this week! Rain, company, work…. ah!

I actually NEVER USE EXCUSES – I DO IT! ALWAYS DO IT! My will power is fierce!!! I should bottle it up and sell it, LOL!

We sometimes push things to the next day, but we usually get everything done at some point. Some things have to be cut short because of time, but that happens with triathlon training!

The teaching one cracks me up – makes me wonder if students ever want to avoid me as a teacher.
I hope your daughter is feeling better, and that you got that run in!
My excuse is usually that it’s too late in the day. I like to run first thing in the am ๐

My best excuse – it’s raining and my glasses will get wet. It’s a pity that my coach won’t accept notes from my mother.

I always do my workouts. BUT this week I have run once and biked once. I turned the alarm off this morning. Then I went into work early instead – also needed. I’m trying to tell myself I needed this week.
Karen says
Maybe I’m in the minority here, but I don’t make excuses unless I REALLY shouldn’t run. Not every run is my favorite, but I don’t usually have to talk myself into going. If I do, I know I need that rest day.

I was so glad when the 24 hour gyms started.. that is what I have always used since then to make sure I have no excuses. Before that – I just did it even with my long hours – I knew I could not keep my weight off without it so I did it.. PLUS I love the weights! ๐

I’m sort of like GiGi – I just do it. I make excuses for a lot of other things in my life that I don’t really want to do anyway but I rarely ever put off my workout.
Black Knight says
I don’t make excuses especially now that I would like to run as I did before.
I hope your daughter gets well soon and you can run.

Lately? My biggest excuse is, “My wife needs my help getting the boy ready for school”. Not sure if that is true or not. I just assume so.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Of late, I’ll do it tomorrow is high on my list – but I’m trying to miss too many workouts!
