Kids went back to school! It seems early, cuz it IS early, and of course now we have our summer’s hottest weather. Trust me it’s better for everybody this way. Mama can hang at the pool by herself.
No news, is well, no news: Still no answers on the heart issue. The referral for my holter monitor was sent to the wrong place. My call to make the appointment was met with a “oh we don’t do heart monitors here anymore” (classic). So I ended up going to Alaska without any answers, which was just fine by me. I did get a call though–from the Gastroenterology department at the hospital wanting to set up a colonoscopy –to hell with my heart, they don’t miss a beat getting up there I guess. Good times.
Workout front: Wait, I workout? I only went further than 3 miles once last week. I’ve been focusing more on strength, but, after Thursday’s plyo session, the old rotator cuff was ornery–again. Not full blown killing, but making it loud and clear I need to back off the free weights. Sigh. The Caveman and I have continued our 30-60 minute daily walks. Since it’s pitch black here at 5am now, we’re walking in the evening. I feel like I have my very own pilot dolphin. Here’s how the week shook out:
Monday: rest
Tuesday: 3 mile run, lower body weights
Wendesday: 20 miles bike, upper body weights
Thursday: Plyo intervals with 3 miles running
Friday: 15 on bike, total body weights
Saturday: rest. Well, golf, that’s a workout right?
Sunday: 6 mile run (felt like 20), 10 mile bike
This week:
- I’m finally getting my heart monitor. Today in fact.
- I’ll hunt down a scientific graphing calculator for Thing 1. I swear, isn’t there an app for that??
- Curriculum night x2.
- Fall skating sessions start.
- Heading to Galena for Labor Day weekend. Don’t be jealous, it’s to celebrate the in-law’s 50 wedding anniversary…the third such gathering this year. Apparently it’s the anniversary that demands a year-long festival of, well festivities. Breathe.
What’s happening in your world? Did you race this weekend? Is it boiling hot (not complaining) like it is here?
Jamie @ couchtoironwoman says
I hope this weekend goes well, I know how things like that go. You can get through it!
We did race this past weekend, a sprint tri and it was a lot of fun! I’m back at work now and it IS early by a week this year since we changed to semesters rather than quarters. Ugh.

LOL on the anniversary comments–so funny.
We are just getting back in the swing here this week, too. I was sad to see them go, but the quiet house is admittedly nice.
I hope you get things sorted out with the heart. Scary stuff, for sure. On the colonoscopy–not so bad; it’s the prep that’s bad. And you know you’re old when…you’re swapping colonoscopy tips! : )

Galena’s really nice, and apparently the half-marathon there is decent (although pretty hilly): http://galena.org/leadrush/
I’m about 3 hours south of Galena, and a co-worker of mine ran it last year.

That IS early for back to school. Our kids go back here after Labor Day.
Oh do have fun with your colonoscopy!
Kari @ Running Ricig says
I hope you find something out about your heart soon!!
I think if I had to celebrate my in-laws’ anniversary three times I’d lose my mind. Good luck!

KInd of nice the kids are gone, though we still have one more at home. 🙂
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I must admit I’m kinda ready for the kids to head back to school!
Hope you get some answers about your heart soon!
Andrea says
I don’t even know where or what Galena is! I hope your schools are air conditioned (ours aren’t) because school is so awful with hot miserable kids! And teachers. I admit I have been having pumpkin spice but we’ve had fall like weather.
Jody - Fit at 55 says
HEY at 50 years – let them enjoy!!! 🙂 So you finally got answers….
Meghan says
This weather is insane! I hope you are enjoying some quiet time by the pool. And, I hope the heart is ok! 🙂 I’m thinking of you!
Carla says
Totally boiling here! So ya gonna get the colonoscpy? It’s a whole lotta fun. Eye roll.
Glad you got your monitor. And enjoy your time by yourself!
Char says
How old is Thing 1? Back in my days we didn’t get a calculator of any description until high school and not a scientific calculator until grade 11 (16 years old).
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
I was wondering what the update was with the dr’s appointment, keep us posted!
Emily says
Argh, that is so frustrating that you still haven’t heard back from the doctor’s office yet on the heart issue. Grrr. Not knowing is the absolute worst. I hope that they get back to you soon with GOOD news!!!
I’ve never been to Galena but I always hear great things about it. I can’t believe you have to celebrate the anniversary THREE TIMES, though. That is craziness!!!
Kim says
Too bad we don’t live closer – we could enjoy the kid-free pool together!!!
I’m glad you are FINALLY going to get your heart rate monitor – that has been awhile coming!
Raina says
Hope you can get what you need for the heart monitor issue. This sounds scary! A colonoscopy also sounds scary though…
Get your shoulder better too!! A girl has to be able to workout.
Have a great time in Galena!
Thanks for reading today xo
