August? Noooo wait! Summer’s going too fast! This time of year I always feel a pang of sadness. Even now that I haven’t been in school for eons and I love me some fall, I still get a sense of ‘ending’. As if summer is the ‘recess’ of the year and it’s nearing time to head back to class.
It also makes me acutely aware of how time flies seemingly faster and faster.
So July? Despite less than summery weather lately, I kicked back.
The main focus was healing my torn rotator cuff while bolstering my spirit with friends and summer fun. Here are my piddly totals for the month…the ones I bothered to log at all that is:
- Running: 50 miles
- Bike: 90 miles
- Yoga: 2 sessions
- Strength: 4 sessions
- Gym days: 0
- Pool days: 15 (lolling, not swimming)
- Times I wore my Garmin: 1 (RnR Chi)
…and on to the highlights:
My only race in July was RnR Chicago, which I was honored again to run as part of Team REFUEL. It was fun despite the heat and my complete lack of training.
Leadville! Nothing like a little (ok a lot of) altitude with friends.
Cubs Game (they even managed to win!)
Six Flags. Why are roller coasters just not quite as fun as they were when we were younger?
BlogHer-related fun in the city
Oh and probably the best thing to come out of July? My shoulder has been pain free for about 2 weks. I’m carefully back to yoga and lifting light weights but something is better than nothing right?
Coming up in August:
Alaskan Adventure: Where I’ll finally confirm that the Iditarod is my true calling…maybe…
Kids back to school: Yay! Boo. Yay!
Tighten up the diet. Do I always say that? Yes.
Continue to lay off ‘hardcore’ running and get my fitness fix in other ways
How did July shake out for you? What are you looking forward to this month? Does the end of summer make you sad?

What a month?! I just had a friend come back from the Chilkoot trail in Alaska, you’ll have a blast I’m sure!

Busy busy! We have more of the same for the next few weeks. Hard to believe it’s August already

The end of summer makes me very sad! I am anxious to hear about your Alaskan adventure as I am going to have one of my own next year. Start swimming for that fitness mix and then you can TRI! Most fun ever!

Not August!! ๐ I stayed fairly active in July, but eating right has been a challenge. I’m dreading going back to work, but I always do better with food when I’ve got structure.

Do you think rollercoasters and theme parks are less fun now because you have to pay for them? That’s my theory on a lot of things as an adult.

July for me was a rotation of Ironman training, eating a bowl of ice cream, sleeping and feeding my kids pizza. Then repeat. Sigh.
I think it’s awesome you live near Chicago. I love that city and can’t wait to go back and visit.

I agree–summer has just flown! We only have three weeks left before kids go back. I can’t stand it.
So glad you are feeling healthy shoulder wise. That will make the going much easier moving forward.
Have a great trip!

Ah, Six Flags! I want to go! You had a great month!
I’m really jealous of your upcoming Alaskan Adventure. I hope you have so much fun!

Summer really is flying by! I love the fall too, but like you am feeling a little sad to see the summer going so quickly! Great to hear your shoulder’s cooperating!

Totally feeling the end-of-summer blues here. Now that we are back home – it is full force for school which starts in less than 2 weeks!! Today was enrollment, school supply shopping, and Jordan started band camp (he has it every day from now until the first day of school so his summer is over!).
Can’t wait to hear more about your Alaskan adventure!!

What a wonderful month! That’s great news that your shoulder has been pain free for the past couple of weeks.

I can’t believe it is August already! The summer went by too quickly this year. I’ve got three races this August, all off the pavement. That’s very unusual for me.

Oh hey, I made another blog post! Sorta! ๐
My August goal: To write a race report on Leadville.

Glad your shoulder is feeling better:) By the end of summer I am usually ready for the kids to be back in school and to get back on a schedule. But I do feel sad when they go back after spending so much time with them during the summer.

What a fun month of July…how cool that you were able to crew for Jill and yay for a healing shoulder!! I agree that August just seems to come so quickly…sigh. July was a full month over here too and August is focused on marathon training for Philly ๐

I am sad about summer. Especially since I got zero pool time this year. Last year I went almost every weekend. July sounds really fun for you! Regarding the roller coaster it’s because our necks can’t take it. ๐
