If you’ve seen my cryptic blurbs and pics on Facebook and Twitter you know something’s been up with me and Verizon. Actually I didn’t even know what was really going on until they coughed it up yesterday. I am part of the Verizon Voices Project. Cool yes? Cool and also out of my comfort zone. I am a writer first. A writer who runs…and blogs about it…a lot. The technology part is not something I chomp at the bit for. The word Luddite comes up around the house often. I am who I am. This past weekend, Verizon Voices team members received a ‘device’ and an ‘accessory’ and enjoyed an awesome weekend of Shamrock Shuffling, Hard Rock hotel luxuriating, dining, socializing, partying and fun. Sadly I was not in town to enjoy most of the above, but as soon as we landed at O’Hare, I kissed the Caveman and kiddos goodbye and piled myself on a train headed straight for downtown Chicago. After a MIL-infested weekend, nothing was going to stop me from flopping down on a king size bed of my very own and enjoying not one, but TWO stunning views of the city, since I had a corner room at the Hard Rock Hotel. Score! Monday morning I had the pleasure of meeting the rest of the Verizon Voices team and we got down to business: The devices were distributed. It felt like Christmas:
Motorola Droid Razr HD…
…and a Fitbit One. Flipping sweet.
You may remember my Fitbibit Aria scale aka El Diablo. Now I have his partner in activity tracking too. I’m calling this one The Tattler. I sat fondling the sleek Razr, not sure at all how to even turn it on because I’ve been an Apple girl for awhile now and that button on the bottom is pretty much where it all begins. Motorola guys descended upon us like angels and walked us through some of the set up. I did my best to appear calm as terms like ‘dongle’ and ‘USB port’ were tossed around, but my pit stains proved otherwise. I managed to get my email accounts setup, download a whole mess of apps and I still can’t help myself from playing with ringtones. I know, grow up. I’ll be sharing my impressions, discoveries, frustrations etc. with these devices here every so often. For now I feel like I have a new robot pet that flashes colored lights at me and makes cute R2D2-like sounds. The adventure continues!
Have you experienced Droid? Fitbit? Are you techno-challenged like me? Anybody?
Disclosure: I am participating in the Verizon Health and Fitness Voices program and have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product. ###

Sweet phone! Sounds like a fun opportunity!
While I love new gadgets I’m not very savvy – usually have to rely on my 10 yr to walk me through it 🙂
Katie @ Live Half Full says
Thanks for linking up again this week! I hope you enjoyed it and join in again next week!

My friend Kim here locally is also a Verizon Voices blogger. She blogs at http://www.glutenfreeislife.com if you want to connect with her! I got to touch her new gadget tonight and checked out the FitBitOne. I had had one at the beginning of the year for like 3 days until it fell off and got lost. The Droid app didn’t work at the time and I was glad to see it did when I played with her phone! Good luck figuring it out – its a nice phone!
Marcia says
Thanks Laurie! I got the Fitbit all hooked up with the Droid today. Not sure how, but I managed pretty easily. 🙂

I can’t even get on Twitter or Instagram; no way I could handle something like that. But wow, it sounds cool.
One thing I am NOT grateful for is the freaking snow we’re getting blasted with today. April 9th and we have a snow day. Really? One thing I am grateful for – Louise! 🙂
Happy to hear you survived MIL without a scratch!

I bet when you started blogging you didn’t think you’d be sort after to give your opinions. It’s amazing the opportunities that come up through blogs.
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
Wow, Marcia! What a cool opportunity! And yes, I’m not so good with technology either… although blogging has forced me to catch up with the times a bit. 🙂
Karen@ La Chanson de Ma Vie says
That tech post might as well have been in Chinese for what I understood. Sometimes I feel like the only person left without a fancy cell phone.
MIZ says
I was so excited to see you tweeting about this too.
CONGRATS!!
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
I’m a Verizon Droid girl through and through, which is saying something since I’m a hardcore mac fan. I’m so glad you had an awesome time!

I really like my Droid; Laima has an iPhone and I think we have about the same amount of complaints about each. 🙂
Kim says
Wow – super exciting for you. I have never even held a droid – I’m super techie challenged! I am also Apple all the way!!!
Today I’m grateful for all the rain we got last night (even though I would be more grateful if it could be warm rain and not 36!).
Mindy @ Road Runner Girl says
Congratulations!!! I love technology! And new technology gadgets are my favorite..yes I am a bit of a nerd lol!

Nice gig! It will be interested to see how much more tech savvy you might become through this. I can totally relate to being anything but! (is it an age thing??)
I am grateful for a 90-degree day in April!

Seriously 90? Holy cow! We’re lucky to see half of that. A whole 37 here today.

How fun and what a great opportunity!! My husband used to have a droid and loved it. I love learning about new technology. It’s so amazing to see all the new stuff they keep coming up with.
Lisa @ RunWiki says
I’m not sure if I’ve told you this before, but there is a study out there that suggests that women who have less than stellar relationships with their in laws have stronger marriages that are more likely to stand the test of time… so we’re good, girl!
Marcia says
Lisa I did not know that! Good to know! 🙂
Carilyn Johnson (@CarilynJohnson) says
The phone looks cool, Marcia! I just switched to an iPhone from a Blackberry, and I’m having all kinds of buyer’s remorse. Hopefully, I will adjust!
Carli says
Lucky duck! A corner room! I was facing a parking lot. LOL! But Hard Rock still gets credit for letting me check in four hours early. So I’ll take it!
I’m already addicted to the phone. It does everything my droid tablet does and I don’t have a huge electronic gadget sticking out of my purse saying “mug me”.
This should be a lot of fun!
Scott says
I have a droid, I tried the fitness apps, and in my opinion, as fun and interesting they seem, they slowed my phone wayyyyyyy down, so I just deleted those apps and rely on my HRM and GPD watch.
Jody - Fit at 55 says
I have a droid but no apps & fun things like that AND I am way tech challenged! Good I have a hubby that gets it. 🙂
