Last week I told you how my workouts were suffering due to calorie restriction on the Fitbit Aria’s ‘kinda hard’ plan (-1.5 lbs./week). This week I dialed it back and reset El Diablo’s calculations for a 1 pound weekly loss. Instantly my workouts were better. I weighed daily, although from here on out I’m cutting back to a weekly weigh-in.
Here’s what I learned from daily weighing/food/activity logging using the Fitbit Aria Scale and software:
- Getting in 10,000 daily steps is not as easy as I thought.
- I’m not getting enough protein.
- I’m doing better but still not hitting my water goal.
- I can see how many more calories I burn running than cycling (grrrr).
- I’m still eating like a marathoner although I’m not training for one. Sigh.
Week 1
- -1.1 lbs.
- -2% body fat
Week 2
- -0.1 lbs.
- +0.8% body fat
Overall
- -1.2 lbs.
- -1.2% body fat
Where I rocked:
- Overall I’m eating good, clean, unprocessed food. Other than a fro-yo, I haven’t been out to eat.
- I’m not snacking mindlessly.
- My workouts feel more energized thanks to adding back 250 calories daily.
Where I blew it:
- Girl Scout Cookies with the kids the night before weigh-in is stupid. Delicious but stupid.
- Mortal sin: I missed Sunday’s 10 miler. Yep, it never happened. Between jacking around with the trail race I didn’t do and the freezing rain, I never got out there. Boo. Think my results this week would have been different if I had burned 10 miles worth of calories? I do. Oh well.
About the scale. I’m pretty sure the Fitbit Aria (aka El Diablo) is the mac daddy of all scales. While the weight hasn’t exactly fallen off of me these past weeks, the scale part has actually been fun. I setup the software on my computer by myself so that should tell you how easy it was. The food and activity logging could not be easier. Tracking reports and graphics for fat vs lean, BMI, body measurements, etc. are awesome. As I log, the Fitbit Aria tells me how many calories I have left to consume. When I’ve overdone it on food, it tells me to go workout–ha! And there’s a whole community of users and various forums I can connect with for extra support. Beyond awesome.

That scale sounds really fun. I have a problem with either weighing every day or avoiding it at all costs, especially during high training. I am avoiding it right now. 🙂

That scale would make me manic, I’m sure of it. But you’re learning and you’re losing, so that’s all that matters. Keep at it girl, you’re getting there!
Sorry about the ice and the race…sounds like zero fun.

Running does burn alot more calories then cycling, but if you have a trainer, email me and I can send you some leg and lung burning trainer workouts to burn more, I have a ton plus some

I think I just need to constantly be in marathon training mode so I can keep eating like an animal. I like this life and I don’t want to go back!

Very cool that you can program your super scale for the amount of weight you want to lose/week!
Are you getting 10,000 steps on top of your normal run/work-out? The few times I’ve tried wearing a pedometer, I always wonder if it is fair to count my work-out or if it should be extra since I already do the other??

I love your updates with using this scale. Keep up the good work!
Congrats to Beth.

I laughed at your comment about eating like a marathoner, while not training for one. I can relate! Looks like you’re getting some good feedback, and things are moving in the right direction!

Does El Diablo ask you nicely to go workout or does he shriek at you in a demonic voice to try to terrify you into it? I’m guessing the latter.

You are amazing, girl! Clean eating is SO hard, especially during GS season. I have definitely had more than my share of cookies this week…
Raina says
Sure that 10 mile run would have burned some calories, but you still lost weight eating girl scout cookies! I might need to study what you are doing more closely 🙂

You really make it appear so easy together with your presentation however I
find this topic to be really something which I believe I would by no means understand.
It seems too complicated and very wide for me.
I am having a look ahead on your next put up, I’ll try to get the
grasp of it!
