The universe has a way of delivering just what you need when you need it: hard lessons, a new friend, a guardian angel, you know the drill.
Last week this contraption, no not Thing 2, showed up on my doorstep. It’s the Fitbit Aria, Wi-Fi Smart Scale . As much as I love to hate scales, it came at the perfect time.
I tried not to whine about it too much here but I packed on some lbs. during our holiday cruise (I know, get out the violins), which I fully expected to. What I did not expect was to continue gaining weight once I got home. Mucho no bueno.
I was all ready to scream thyroid and dial up the doc in search of higher powered meds but first I decided to jerk the choke chain, er I mean pay more attention, to calories in and out.
Starting this week, I’m weighing-in and logging my food and activity. I think I’d rather have my eyes poked out with soy-sauce soaked chopsticks than keep a food log, but I’m logging. The cool thing about this scale is it sends your weight and body fat info right to your computer and displays it in a snazzy, chart-and-graph laden profile you can share with your friends…or not. It hasn’t sworn back at me yet, although it’s so smart and sassy I suspect it will. I’ll keep you posted.
Goal: Lose 12 pounds. That’ll put me back at BQ weight. Even though that’s higher than ‘ideal,’ BQ weight will always be my ideal.
To hold my feet to the fire, I’ll be sharing progress here on Wednesdays.
Do you keep a food log? What shall I name my new scale? Looks like a Darth Vader to me.

El Diablo is the name I would give it

LOVE IT!!!

Wait so did you get a Fitbit to to wear? Because that would make it much easier with the tracking of the activity. My husband has a fitbit and he lost 30 something lbs with that sucker. If WW didn’t have activelink I would have gotten that! What a cool product review!

Love your determination and willingness to step on a scale regularly. Send some of it my way, ok?

Oh lucky you! I love this.
Name? Reminds me of a time years ago when we first started working with computers and we named one FRED (for f’ing ridiculous electronic device) !
Have fun with it!

Cool scale! I call mine Count Trackula. Those pesky calories….they get us every time!

whenever I’m on a weight loss kick – I keep a food log – it keeps me honest. That pesky data doesn’t lie.I love lying to myself but that doesn’t take off the weight. I’ve been on a high fat diet the past 9 months or so and surprising this is the first winter in a long time I’ve maintained my summer weight. Definitely a tough mental switch tho…

I am seriously eyeing one of these. It is sitting on my amazon wishlist as we speak. Thinking a portion of the tax refund will be getting me this baby.

Once I tried a food log – it lasted less than a week. I’m too lazy to do it correctly!!!
I don’t own a scale but your new one is pretty cool – I’m not sure anything I named it would be very nice!
Good luck with the plan!!

I’ve been tracking my food on My Fitness Pal, love how when you log in a run, the calories burned basically cancel out my lunch. : )

Ooooh fancy! I have an old school scale with a dial and everything. Yours is way cooler:)

Nice new scale!
I don’t keep a food log, I pretty much try to eat healthy though. With marathon training I’m ALWAYS hungry!

I haven’t been good lately, but I usually track my food and drinks!

I HATE logging food, too, but I think I need to start doing it now. Sigh. Better replace the batteries in the scale, too…..

I could have written this post! Just change cruise to yoga retreat in Belize. I actually thought about doubling my thyroid medicine for a few weeks *headdesk* So I started with myfitnesspal and ordered a fitbit…this scale is next on my list so I can’t wait to hear what you think about it.

I keep a food log. I have since 2003 when I started putting on lbs after my skinny wedding diet was over. I tend to yo-yo from my DL (driver’s license weight ;)) up 5-10 lbs. for my 40th I got to DL weight. And stayed there most of the year. Lots of stress and lazy eating has me up 3-5 lbs. I want to get it under control before it is the full 10!
I weigh 3 x a week usually after sweating a lot 😉
I had an original fitbit but I killed it. It was not waterproof and I sweat a lot when I run. They sent me a new one. I may raffle it off on my blog if anyone is in the market 🙂

That IS a snazzy scale! I have recently started logging my calorie intake again as well. Not really my thing, but I’m trying to drop 10 pounds and I thought it might help. I’m using the Lose It app on my phone.

You don’t have 12 lbs to lose, you barely have a pound!! But the scale sounds interesting – I love me some gadgets and data!!
When I stopped logging my foot intake and stepping on the scale daily, I finally started losing weight. I think I was constantly thinking of food when I knew I had to log it and how much I had left and it started to take over my life. It was making me manic and finally when I stopped the madness, I just started losing it. I guess we’re all programmed differently. Good luck my sweet friend!!

I definitely don’t keep a food log. Having to log everything that goes into my mouth would drive me insane and give me writer’s cramp. And how do you log a finger-full of icing or cupcake batter?! Plus I would probably lie just a little to make myself feel better so why go there? You, on the other hand, will do brilliantly and lose those 12 lb.
