1. Gym Love. I’ve been getting back in the routine of heading to the gym lately. Recently while there I noticed lots of ‘love’ going on between trainers and their clients, class instructors and people in their class, etc. There were kisses hello and sweaty embraces after. Is this gym PDA a holiday thing or is it standard to hug your trainer after a session? Personally this was not the case for me when I was seeing Mars. It wouldn’t occur to me to hug a trainer. What say you?
2. Temperature Amnesia. Now that it’s cooling down, once again I find myself dressing incorrectly for the temps. I’ve been overdressing for my runs and I was painfully underdressed for my bike ride the other day.
It was 48 degrees. Certainly not the coldest weather I’ve ever ridden in. I wore tights, half zip top (alas no thumb holes), vest and headband. Don’t let that half-assed smile fool you. I think I was frozen that way. Holy wind Batman. I froze my arms and hands off without a jacket and gloves. Live and learn. Do you have annual exercise amnesia when the seasons change?
Favorite Things. The holidays are fast approaching and more importantly I’ve got a big birthday coming even sooner. BIG as in AARP card big. In fact I got not one but TWO AARP applications in the mail. That’s what a big deal I am. To celebrate I’ve got stuff planned you’ll wanna stick around for. And some of that goodness maaaay be posted exclusively on the MHS Facebook page without another peep about it here. You didn’t hear that from me.
Did you ever have or throw a surprise party? Was it a success?

I have temperature amnesia too! I am fairly certain that when i ran dublin it was 48 degrees, and i wore shorts and tank top….why am i wearing a hat, gloves, pants, and three shirts?!?! It just seems colder at first now, haha

I am doing much better this year than last year. But I don’t have the confusion of having to remember proper biking attire for the weather, so there’s that.
I have never had or thrown a surprise party, but I’ve been involved in several amazing successes! So fun when it all comes together!
hikermom says
Ewwww, sweaty hugs, no thanks! Haven’t seen that at my gym, so maybe a holiday thing?
Lisa J says
I have never heard the term coined “exercise amnesia” but I love it! I keep overdressing for my runs and I end up a giant sweaty mess. I guess I’d rather have that than a potential “half assed frozen smile” haha
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Hug a trainer? Um no…there have been a couple I’ve wanted to strangle 🙂 Definitely had a couple of temp amnesia runs – recent spike in temps around here certainly hasn’t helped!

I think you need to host a virtual party. Maybe we can all link up via Skype? (just looking for an excuse for a glass of wine). But what a cool 50-yr. old you will make!
Yeah, I’m thinking all this PDA at the gym is a younger generation thing. I just heard the new thing is to finish off all emails with an xo, too. I’m out of touch!
Jill says
My toes are still thawing out from a ride 4 days ago. And it was 60 degrees. Time for some shoe covers I guess.
I am certain I will never hug my coach. I’m pretty sure I could fire him though! 🙂
Carli says
As far as hugging the trainer, I guess that depends on the relationship. If we just met, no, but after years, maybr. Personally, I am not a toucher and if my clients are expecting this then…
I prefer to keep my workouts indoors so weather is really not a problem.
No surprise parties :-)A
Kari @ Running Ricig says
I can’t figure out how to dress for runs lately, either. These temperatures are confusing. Then again, I’m not going to complain about the few days of great weather we had.
I’m not a hugger, so I definitely wouldn’t hug a trainer. That just sounds weird.
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
Weird- people tend to be huggier and “warmer” down here, but I haven’t noticed that at our gym…
Brr, I hate being cold. The bike is so different in terms of layering, it’s hard to get it right.
Excited about your upcoming birthday!
Raina says
It has been an educational experience riding the bike a few weeks ago. I just could not put on enough layers…but once my HR got up, I was too warm- but afraid to take anything off.
Trainer hugs…hmmm. It’s the holidays. Maybe this is part of the naughty or nice campaign.?
Elle says
Oooooh no trainer hugs! Not me.
I will be watching for your birthday!
Carrie@familyfitnessfood.com says
I threw a surprise party for my mom’s 60th birthday and it was amazing. I had so much fun planning and we totally surprised her.
No trainer hugs for me. Not that I’ve had a trainer. I’m rather anonymous at the gym and like it that way.
HAPPY ALMOST BIRTHDAY!!
Suzanne says
The weather has been crazy and it’s hard to dress for it, that’s for sure. Another December birthday, yay!
elizabeth says
i’ve been good this year with not overdressing. BUT-we really haven’t had a lot of cold weather so we shall see come january! and yes-i threw my dad a 60th bday-he was definitely surprised. i loved it!
Scott says
I love the gym for the pure purpose of people watching, makes the workout go so much faster
Mandy says
I’ve high-fived my trainer, but never hugged him. That’s strange.
I threw a surprise party for my best friend when I was 14, it was a huge success. But, hey, we were young and easily pleased.
