No, I’m not checking into Betty Ford or anything like that. I’m talking about a food and juice cleanse. Certainly I’ve heard about them. Results can be dramatic, and fleeting, and then there are the critics.
Personally? I have no firsthand experience with them so I’m neutral and keeping an open mind. I agreed to do one, mostly because I’m curious what they’re all about. Now that it’s my running ‘offseason’ what better time?
I’ve been mostly gluten, soy and caffeine free for 2 weeks now. There have been encouraging signs so far:
- My thyroid no longer swells
- I am less achy the day after a run (not that I was in terrible pain before, but I had a sort of joint fatigue that was my cue to rest), to the point that I feel like I want to run the very next day, and I have. This is unheard of for me.
- I weigh .2 lbs less than I did two weeks ago. Minimal but we’re coming off of Thanksgiving weekend where, trust me while I did not gorge, I did not hold back.
- The kicker: my body measurements are the same: except my waist (remember the 30″ cry heard round the world?) is a half inch smaller. Already.
So back to the detox: it’s a ‘2-day food and juice cleanse’. There are shakes to drink, soups to eat, supplements to take and tea.
Here’s how it’s going so far:
This should be interesting. Have you ever done a detox?
I tried a week long detox and did great the first two days. But then I gave up. My brain threw in the white flag. I wish I had been more motivated to keep up with it. Good luck on your detox!
I am currently in the middle of a Cleanse – this is the one I am doing – http://yen007.isagenix.com/us/en/nineday.dhtml. I started the Saturday after thanksgiving and I am on day 4. It is getting easier.
I have never done a detox before but some of the girls that I work with have. I think I would be too hungry!
I’ve never done a detox before either…I’m not sure it’s purpose so I’ve never really look into it too much. Seems there’s so many detoxs for so many reasons….I probably need about 50 detoxs to “fix” everything wrong! 🙂
Never tried a detox before either so I’m interested to see how you like it. Not sure I could give up the coffee, beer and wings anyway :-).
I agree with what Jill said. I’d have to do too many detoxes.
That said, I have given up caffeine, sugar and dairy for short periods before, with good results. I see it more as a habit reset than a physical “cleansing”. I don’t really believe in the latter, but boy is the former necessary sometimes!
I’ve never done a detox or cleanse before so I’m anxious to see how this goes for you.
Never tried and probably never will–pretty sure I’d be so hungry that I’d become homicidal!
I’ve never done a detox, but I am interested in learning more and want to see how this works. The points you make are intriguing.
I know I say it all the time 🙂 but going GF close to two decades ago CHANGED MY LIFE.
physically and emotionally.
xo
Very glad to hear the diet changes are making a difference for u!! That’s great! Ive never done a detox so I wish u the best of luck!! Spa <3
I’ve never done one, but I’m interested to hear your play by play of it!
oooo, curious! I’ve never tried anything like this before – like miss zippy said, I’m pretty sure I’d be so hungry I’d be homicidal. which would be mucho bad news for my hubs and kids…
I’ve never done a detox, but now sounds like the ideal time, post marathon. I definitely think my body would benefit from cutting out caffeine, soy, gluten, etc… but the middle of marathon training is not the time. 🙂
I’ve never done a detox but I am super interested in one. I’m looking forward to hearing more about yours!
I have been tempted but never done one. Did fast for 12 days once many many years ago but no detox. Wouldn’t recommend that!
Good luck with it – will be interested in your progress and results.
I have never done a detox or a cleanse. I’m kind of worried I’d go overboard with bad foods after.
It’s all liquids? (apart from the crunchy bits in the protein shake) I don’t think I’d last long on it – I do love the feel of solid food in my mouth.
i’ve thought about doing them… but the price tag always holds me off and i know i won’t DIY the juices. more power to you!
