I got an email the other day: Marcia blah blah, …..You are such a badass runner, blah blah… how do you maintain that mindset through training and racing?
This is some kind of a joke right? Mom, is that you? I’d swear it was if my mom emailed. I think I got my technophobe gene from her. Although mom doesn’t throw around the term badass too often…
Ok, because I’m feeling good and yes, badass after yesterday’s 10 miler at marathon pace, I will share my secrets to upping your badass quotient, or BQ, not to be confused with the other BQ, which is also very badass:
First Degree Badass: Wear ninja black. It slices through the air, making you faster and has a strong intimidating effect on running partners and opponents alike.
Exhibit A: All ninja-like (except for the visor) at the Wisconsin Half Marathon.
Second Degree Badass: Animal Prints. Keep these to fast animals, preferably from the cat family: Leopard, cheetah, puma (fast and black, win and win).
Exhibit B: Combine animal print and black for badassery bonus points.
3rd degree badassery: Camo. When the going gets tough, our men and women in uniform have the corner on the badass market.
Exhibit C: Yours truly summoning her inner marine as she busts out 800’s in her camo bra.
The Running Skirts girls are in on the badassery secrets. They’ve got a snow leopard skirt and a peri camo skirt new this fall, both screaming my name.
So does Flo at Girl In Motion. Animal prints, camo, you name it she’s got it!
There you have it: Black, animal prints and camo. Building blocks for upping your badass quotient (BQ) before you even sweat a drop.
Do you have special colors, patterns, etc you like to train/race in?
Speaking of badass: The Marine Corps Marathon is 1 month from today!
You are one heck of a badass! I embrace my inner badass through the music I blare while I workout. That’s what helps me go, go, go!
Well, look at that, all my running problems are solved because I was wearing the wrong animal print!! I am tossing the turtle print shorts and letting leopard print ones, Boston, Here I Come!!!!
Hahaha cute! I can’t say I’ve ever rocked the animal print, but black is definitely badass! 🙂
Super cute animal print skirt! I don’t have certain prints…i stick to colors that you can’t see my tookus through when I’m drenched 😉 But I do love me a skort! SPA <3
Love it, love it, love it! You definitely look way more badass (and cuter) than I ever do when I run. Maybe I need to try some animal prints 🙂
Love this. Especially because I’m hoping to crush a 4-mile race tomorrow and need all the badassery I can get. When I dress for races, I tend to pick offensively bright pieces as it makes it easier to pick me out. I find that adding a hat ups my ferociousness.
I just packed Sunday’s marathon outfit and it is ninja black! WOO!
I love it!
I love animal print so much!!!! No matter the object, anything is more awesome in print! :0) u go girl!! Spa love!
Love it! I have that cheetah print headband and I love it:) looks like I need some more animal print running stuff:)
Hilarious post! I definitely feel more hard core in some outfits than others…not sure that I could narrow it down to a print. 🙂 One month to go–eek!! Exciting!
You are badass no matter what you are wearing, Marcia! But I do love your choices, especially the headbands. Can’t believe MCM is one month away!!
greeeeat. now i think i need that snow leopard skirt. thanks. (hehahahaha)
Love this! Clearly I need to get myself some animal print 🙂
I think this is such a fun post! Pink camo is VERY badass… tee hee.
Love the black and leopard combo – super badass:)
10 at marathon pace? Holy Sh!t girl!! I am soooo envious of you right now!
Why didn’t you buy me a cheetah skirt instead of that cute pink top; this is obviously my problem – I wear too much damn pink!
I am ALL about the ninja black, or really obnoxious colors:) Love this post!
Haha love this! I love bright colors the most, I want to stand out!
Yes, that pink camo is definitely bad ass. It screams ‘mess with me and I’ll break your face … or I would if I hadn’t just done my nails.’
I never knew that I was being bad ass with my choice of tights/shorts colour. I just thought the black would hide any unfortunate accidents. That’s me bad ass with a touch of stress incontinence 🙂
um, YEAH you’re a bad ass!! I seem to like the ninja black gear, makes me feel slick and speedy : )
Yes! Badassery is all about the outfit! I love my ninja winter outfits 😉
LOL. pink should be included in there too… camo and cheetah in black and pink. now wouldn’t that be stylish… (because we all know my #1 priority is style!)
