1. Trader Joe’s Organic Greens. Typically I’m not a fan of bagged lettuces but, since I didn’t grow any in the garden this year, I can’t resist this. It’s a mix of baby kale, spinach and chard. All tiny and tender and delicious. I use it on sandwiches, salads, as a bed for other veggies, in smoothies, pretty much everywhere.
2. Trader Joe’s Smoked Almonds. It’s no secret I’m a huge TJ fan. These are roasted and salted plus the whole smoke thing probably makes them less than stellar health-wise compared to their raw compadres. But I’m eating them instead of sugary snacks, for which I do not have an off switch. They’re delicious and the lesser of the evils.
3. Nike Pro Half Zip. I dragged home yet another long-sleeve half zip. I probably needed this like another hole in the head but look at the cool pattern! All of my others are solid colors. I haven’t even worn it yet but I’m in love.
4. The Surprise Mile: Thing 1 has never been a ‘runner’. I can count the number of kids’ races she’s done on two fingers. And that’s fine. I haven’t forced her. To each his own right? Fast forward to 6th grade: Their daily gym class is boot camp style, with no shortage of squats, pullups, situps, you name it. Plus they are timed in the mile. Every. Week. If it is not ‘fast’ enough, they repeat it. Tough, no? Well our little miss ‘nonrunner’ delivered a very respectable mile time on her very first (read no training) outing. In 85 degree heat. She’s gotten faster from there. In the face of all the reports swirling around lately about growing obesity and sedentary habits, I am loving this gym class and I commend the school district for encouraging kids to work hard and step up their fitness. Thing 1 is proud of herself. Mama is proud of her!
5. Denver RnR this weekend! I’ll admit I’m pretty giddy about this one. Maybe it’s cuz I’m going to see Jill and meet Terzah, Kathy and hopefully Erin. I also have it in my head that I’m going to run well. Haha I’m thinking those almonds are hallucinogenics! Nevertheless I am looking forward to it!
What are you loving right now? What is physical education like where you are?
I love that snazzy half-zip! There are some things you just can’t have enough of.
Have so much fun at RnR this weekend. Good luck!
cute Nike top! Good Luck this weekend, and have fun with the other bloggers.
good luck in Denver! I don’t have kids, but i remember my physical education classes being very sub-par….and that was a private school!
Your daughter’s gym class sounds like a kid’s nightmare, but also kind of awesome. I love it.
Woooohooo, I get to see you tomorrow! 🙂
I will NOT be running well. Finally went to PT yesterday about my ankle and arch and though I got the OKAY to run, I have a lot of residual buildup from the sprain, which is making it HARD for me to run. So I’m sure I’ll be walking by mile 10. Whatevs…I get to see you, that’s the main point! 🙂
I’m so excited to meet you at last!! You’re going to love it out here and I bet you’ll run strong.
Good luck this weekend! Those almonds look yummy, I love almonds. I can never have too many long sleeve half zip running shirts:) Once it hits October that will be all I wear for my runs.
Ahh! I love the orange top!!! 🙂 I hope you have a fab time in Denver 🙂
WTG to your daughter! Man, that gym class sounds HARD!
Spike is in love with that top and keeps trying to talk me in to buying it! LOL! It’s just a little too crazy loud for me, but I bet you will rock like it’s your job!
Have a blast this weekend!!!
Right now I’m loving nut butter basically in any form on anything! Haha! Happy Thursday and spa love!
I love “What I’m loving right now” posts, I have picked up some great things from people’s tips. I always love to know what people love at TJ’s because they get new stuff all of the time and often times I’m rushing in and out and miss new items. I will try both the green and almonds. Good luck on Denver RnR this weekend!
Trader Joe’s really does have some great stuff. I haven’t seen the Power Greens before and will have to look for them. Have a great race this weekend!
super, super jealous of your lunch on Friday w/Terzah and crew. Terzah invited me, but I’ll be in Apsen getting ready to race the Golden Leaf Half Trail marathon. I’m bummed to miss out hanging out with all the ‘cool kids’. Have fun!
YAY!!! I definitely want to see you! Email me and i will send you my cell #! Getting on the plan in just a minute. 🙂
I think that timing the kids in gym class is a double edged sword. In our crazy school gym is pass fail. My daughter is a runner (captain of the XC team). Gym teacher wanted to fail her since she felt my daughter didn’t try hard enough.
So jealous of your blogger meetups coming up! Some of my favorite people, all together without me. One of these days….
I’m loving almonds these days, too. Not smoked, but roasted/salted. Like you said, not necessarily healthy…but so good!
Jealous of the Nike half zip. You can never have too many half zips. At least that is what my closet tells me. Have a blast in Denver.
Good Luck this weekend, I’d say have fun, but I just know that you will with that company! : )
Have you had the chocolate dusted almonds??
Kill-er!!
LOVE that half zip! Right now I am loving lounging around in my pajamas and pumpkin coffee, so good!
I’m not sure what physical education is like near us since we don’t have any kids and I am not from Rochester nor New York state.
Have fun this weekend! Sounds like a fun blogger meet up for sure.
The only thing I dislike about living in Canada is that we have no TJs!
That’s so awesome about your daughter! You must be so proud! Maybe you’ll be able to count the races she’s done on 3 fingers next. I am absolutely loving PB2. It’s peanut butter powder you mix with water or milk to make peanut butter. It’s delicious, low fat and low calorie-Great for making peanut butter shakes!
thanks for the greens tip! much better than plain spinach. how awesome for your daughter! i’m not sure what the school systems offer here (no kids) but i am really, really impressed with yours. and good luck this weekend!
Is the gym class a school thing? It sounds fantastic and what all our kids should be doing daily. It’s so good for them to learn to use their bodies. Learn to exercise the right way. And to see themselves getting stronger and faster.
Good luck this weekend! I love anything and everything Trader Joe’s.
so cool you are going to meet up with the girls…so cool!!
Our phys ed is very similar…every grade level has to run the mile timed as well. i LOVE when the parents try and make excuses for their kids when they are “sore and tired” the next day……..Seriously? We get a kick out of it in school 😉
Have fun with the blogger friends and good luck on the Denver RnR,
Congrats to the young runner.
I have a thing for long sleeve atheltic shirts as well
