Goal: With my first Ragnar Relay on the horizon, I’d hoped to start doing some 2/day runs. Β Friday seemed like the perfect day.
Pie in the sky: Go for the gusto and sandwich a yoga class between them.
Reality: Thing 2 was home sick so there was one anemic run on the mill….ok not anemic but still one run and no gusto.
Goal: Put Katniss, my new mixer, through her paces by jumping way out of the box with some oatmeal/raisin/BACON cookies. Yes, oink.
Pie in the sky: The Caveman would delight in my baking prowess so much he’d rush out and beg me to get a new Garmin.
Reality: The cookies sucked. I burned the first batch but still could not stand the bacon flavor when they were done perfectly. Caveman couldn’t either. Β Ergo still no Garmin. Katniss needs a redemption recipe.
Goal: Run 12 strong miles on Sunday.
Pie in the sky goal: Run negative splits. (But how would I know sans Garmin?)
Reality: Began mile 2 with a failed grande jete over a muddy ditch, ended up knee deep in murky water and scared the crap out of two ducks in the process. High-tailed it home for a shoe/sock change and demudification.
Maybe things fell a bit short of pie in the sky, but it was an enjoyable (and muddy) weekend all the same. I also realized this was my last weekend without a race until mid-June! This year MAYhem starts a week early!
Two more days until the NYCM 2012 field is announced! Are you in for the reaping….I mean lottery?
Are you racing a lot in May?
Jamie @ couchtoironwoman says
Haha I love that you named your mixer Katniss!!
I’m not trying for the NYC Marathon this year, maybe someday!
We have a race next weekend, the end of April but close enough to May! Then we have a 5K and a duathlon in May. Our triathlon is the first weekend in June, busy, busy!
bobbi says
I’m kinda sad that the bacon cookies sucked…but I LOVE that you named you mixer Katniss π
You are running Kenosha, yes? What else? I’ll be in WI 5/5 and then Busse 5/20. ANd then June happens. I’m hoping I don’t die before I get that far π Got my Grandma’s bib # Friday…starting to freak out.
misszippy says
Stupid life getting in the way of training! ; )
Love the mixer name. The cookies don’t really sound appealing, but it would be fun to try one!
Which Ragnar are you doing?
gingerfoxxx says
I am not in the NYC lottery, but i have a lot of friends who are. I am thinking maybe next year i will try for it π I have a race every weekend in May – what was i thinking?? and when in need of a redemption recipe – always go to banana bread. It never goes wrong!
Lisa J says
i like your layout of ‘pie in the sky’ and then reality. its funny you didn’t like the bacon cookies- my mom made those for our pig roast this past year and I didn’t like them either. As I was reading how you were prepping them I was thinking ‘gross’ then laughed when u too, didn’t like them.
I’m in for the reaping… kind of excited!
Terzah says
Hahahahaha…the NYC reaping!
So I named the recumbent bike at the gym Pitbull, because this 39-year-old respectable librarian mother of 5-YO twins loves to rock out to a more-than-slightly obscene hip-hop pop-type Cuban-American who calls himself Mr. Worldwide. First Mario, now Pitbull. What is it with my Latin lover thing? These are not the types of men I went for in my youth.
Anyway, I’m sorry about the nasty bacon and the sick kid…but the mud sounds AWESOME. :^)
Michel@Babyweightmyfatass says
lol I’m sad as well that the Bacon cookies weren’t a success. And I’m glad that the fall down a ditch didn’t get you hurt!
kilax says
I hope you get in to NYC! I only have one race in May. Running less this year π
Which Garmin do you want? The 405 is only $150 on Amazon Prime!
I love that muddy shoe picture!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Hmm…those cookies sound…interesting? π Love that you’ve named your mixer Katniss!
Racing every weekend? Wow! I’ve got my next half Mem. Day weekend and otherwise I’m playing race director the 1st weekend.
Carilyn Johnson (@CarilynJohnson) says
Yes, Katniss must redeem herself for the sake of all our KitchenAid mixers π While mine is more ornamental than useful, I still love it dearly.
Sounds like you had a fun weekend overall! Still hoping you get your Garmin soon!
Mandy says
HA! Cute post! I hate landing in a puddle of mud early in a run! Bacon cookies??? WOW.
Yes, I’m in for the reaping! If I do, it’ll be my first full marathon!
hikermom says
Wow, those are some muddy shoes. Can they be saved? All this relay talk is making me want to do a relay race. I need to find some runner friends in real life:)
Kari @ Running Ricig says
I actually just remembered that I’m doing the Cape Cod ragnar in three weeks. I’m totally prepared with no training, right? Right.
You’ve definitely got to redeem yourself with some better baking! What’s your husband’s favorite dessert?
Your mud run sounds nuts!
Julia @pain, pride and perseverance says
haha! glad that despite everything it turned out to be a good weekend π i am getting so anxious/nervous about the NYC marathon lottery!!!!

Love that you tried bacon cookies. I’m impressed. I only have a hand mixer, would love an awesome stand mixer and would totally name it. Awesome!!
Suzanne says
Haha, I have never heard someone name their mixer before! Looks like a fun weekend all things considered!
Meghan Rene says
I’m in for the reaping!!! Are you??
I went trail running with my relatively new sneaks and I was so scared to get them muddy/dirty. My running partner I think was scared I would burst into tears.
Luckily – another lady took the mud for me this weekend π
I need cookies now!!
Kathy R says
Katniss the stand mixer …. head scratch, head scratch, head scratch … alrighty then!
I am in for the reaping but on the next to no chance that I get in I’ll defer since I’m in for Detroit with my friends.
Holy muddy boots, Batman!!!
Yo Momma Runs says
That mud screams heavy feet to me. And no races for me (yet) in May. Weird!
Laura says
Bacon cookies, interesting… sorry they didn’t turn out. I hate a wasted baking effort. π Wow- mud! I don’t have anything in May either… possibly a 5k but I haven’t registered yet.
Char says
Those muddy shoes make you look so hard-core.
What happened with e-bay? What on earth constitutes e-bay misbehaviour? When do the girls need costumes for? I’d love to help out if the time-frame is do-able.
Last question – do the cookies have to be healthy because I’ve got a great recipe for very bad cookies (white chocolate, dark chocolate and M&Ms) that I’m happy to share.
Lisa says
wait a minute. how could the cookies suck? i thought EVERYTHING was better with bacon. i think maybe you’re holding out on us and that they actually were some of the best cookies ever. ;-/
andrea says
Can’t wait for the lottery! Hoping to get in this year.
sorry to hear the cookies weren’t good.
sara@domesticallychallenged says
Is this a good or bad time to tell you my target had Garmin 405’s on clearance for $109?
I want cookies now too.
Elle says
Thanks for the giggles…
Tink says
That’s hilarious..hope things work out better for you this week!
christa says
I have a half marathon and a 5k in May. Last year I had a race every weekend in May.
Travel Spot says
Haha. Bacon cookies sound interesting. Why were they not good? Was the bacon too strong? Or did it conflict?
I am running two races in May (so far!) but have another one on my radar. I am not putting my name in for the NYC lottery.
