1. I am so excited for all of you who are heading to Boston this weekend! It was a surreal experience for me, in a way even more surreal now as I look back at the pictures and think: Was that really me? I hope you soak in every glorious moment. The city of Boston, it’s residents and visitors will embrace you and make you feel like a rockstar. Enjoy it–you earned it!
That’s me heading to board the bus to the start line at my first Boston in 2009. Overwhelmed is an understatement. I was crying.
I’ve been flooded with questions (thank you!) that I answered individually, but I also wanted to share the Q&A I posted last year for some last minute tips. It was a trip down memory lane going back and reading the race reports from my first Boston and my second Boston. Read them if you have time on your hands (and wanna see how my writing style has changed). Safe travels! Savor every bit of it!
2. This is cute: Anyone read the Historic Taper article on page 24 of the May RW that interviews the tour guide of the Freedom Trail Run? I love the last 2 interview questions. One talks about ‘the aura’ around Boston Marathoners and if the nonracers in the group are intimidated. …we also get ordinary people…but its a very exciting time for them to see the runners…
Is it just me or do you find this kind of amusing? Apparently Boston Marathoners are not ‘ordinary people’. The part about ‘see the runners’ makes me think of going to see animals in a zoo.
3. Boston Apparel Protocol. What would you do? My beloved Boston tee has been sullied with an oh-so-ugly bleach stain. Domestic goddess I am not.
This is a terrible pic and most of the stuff is mirror filth (see domestic goddess line above) and shadows but see the unsightly splotch near the hem?
Here it is closer up. Is it ok for me to purchase a new Boston tee? Or is that something only Boston runners 2012 should do? Am I way over-thinking this? Probably.
Safe travels, run well, have fun, soak it up, take lots of pics and I can’t wait to hear all about it! I’ll be there in spirit, and cyber stalking of course, cheering everyone on!
Final days for my Champion giveaway!

Just got goosebumps!! I am over the mooon excited and thakn YOU for being so excited for me/us!
I love that picture… even though I can only see the back of you, it is loaded with emotion. What a day that must have been.
Get yourself a new tee, girl. You’ve earned it for life!

That picture of the back of you is just so amazing. I wasn’t as emotional as I was nervous. Wish I knew you back in 2009…we were on that course together and didn’t even know it :).
I SO want that shirt. Wonder if you can still get it somewhere. Like it’s my birthday an all next week, I think I should get myself a treat!
Love ya, girl. Think about you lots as the Boston day approaches!

Well you know they have vintage Boston stuff at the expo–want me to pick you up a tee from your year if they have it?
I’m pretty excited, but at the same time bummed that it’s gonna be hot. I knew in my gut it would end up this way, but I’m still upset. But it’s still Boston, heat meltdown or not!
Hikermom says
Oh man, sorry about your shirt. I would definitely buy another one. You earned it!

GET YOURSELF A NEW TEE – YOU EARNED 26.2 OF THEM 🙂
From my blog – you see I live in NYC now. YET – I reign from Boston. My family is from Southie (Irish and Polish family).
I love Boston – and the marathon is such an awesome way to experience the city.
Don’t tell any of my family this – but I the only way I will run Boston is if I qualify for it. No charity, lottery, etc. For me.
Ah – I miss home 🙂

I think purchasing a new tee is fine… unless it says 2012. There might be a fine line with people thinking that means you ran the 2012 event. But you’ve run it before, so that entitles you to rock the poop out of it. Also, dont be afraid to keep rockin the shirt with the bleach spot. Gives it an “old school” feel and means you are so badass that you’ve run it in before. Let the newbies rock the sparkly new shirts. You are keeping it OG.

You can TOTALLY go get a Boston shirt! Once Boston, always Boston!! If I had been qualifying, I would have cried too! If I was only a little more genetically predisposed for speed 🙂

Go for it – buy the new tee! But don’t throw away the old cool one – I like the worn look!
Laura says
I’m so excited to virtually cheer everyone on, too! I’ve never been there… but hope to someday! 🙂

love finding fellow running bloggers! great recap of your race from the past and stinks about the stain, you should look around online, I bet they have race shirts from your year! you should check it out! can’t wait to read more…

You should definitely get a new shirt – you earned it!
Mike says
I would wear the old shirt with pride and buy a new one. 99.9% of people out there don’t get the idea of only wearing shirts for things you have accomplished, and the other 0.1% would buy the bleach splotch reason.

Get another shirt! For real!
There’s a little part of me that wishes I could qualify for Boston someday. Not sure I have that in me though – maybe in another decade 🙂
Mandy says
If the shirts don’t have the year on them, I’d definitely buy another one.
Thank goodness I’m not the only non-domestic goddess out there!
