I am smitten with these shoes. They are my beloved Mizunos but a different model. I usually wear Wave Creations, Wave Precisions and sometimes Wave Riders. How can I resist this color? Face it, I can’t.
My half marathon is this weekend. All of my runs post-flu have been weak, winded and with cough, I mean walk breaks. I hope they have mercy on me and don’t open up the roads to traffic until I get my leaden, wheezing self across the finish line.
I failed to properly prep for What I Ate Wednesday but I can tell you that I’ve managed to keep post-flu weight gain to just 0.4 lbs. That puts me within 4 pounds of BQ weight. Impressed? I am! So why am I not faster? I’m wondering that same thing. Total lack of speed work may have something to do with it.
I love wildlife and all but an unruly gang of deer destroyed the assortment of spring bulbs that were just popping up in our front yard last night. Think our Halloween scarecrow would keep them away?
Like many places around the country, the weather here has been glorious. Yesterday’s run was tank worthy and today we’ll be approaching 80 degrees. I blew off my spin class, opting instead for a fabulous ride outside, on my bike that never quite made it to the trainer this season.
What is your favorite long-run shoe? Does color ever sway you to consider changing? Or have I cornered the superficial market?
What is your favorite Pi, I mean Pie? I’ll go Dutch Apple.
kari @ Running Ricig says
The only shoes I run in are Brooks Adrenalines. They come in fun colors, though, so I switch them up.
I HATE races where the roads are open. Breathing in fumes will definitely keep you from a good run.
Meghan Forsberg says
I noticed it was Pi Day too! Mine is my grandmother’s apple pie. Yum!
My favorite would be Asics GT-2160. If a shoe is bright orange or with neon green – I always buy them!
Kathy R says
Happy Pi day to you – my son pointed out that 2015 will be especially cool!
I had to stop running in Mizunos since they updated last year, found the toe bed a little too tight but those are very, very cool! I’m an Adidas Supernova girl now!
Amylee says
I’ve been swayed by looks! The Brooks Cadence. Bought them, and then returned them after my first run in them. Don’t stray!!!
Favorite pie- my Mom’s apple pie, or my Grandma’s Strawberry Pie. Mmmmmm… Pi day.
lindsay says
my shoe selection is definitely based on color! i’ve been fortunate to be able to just get ‘whatever’ (and not worry about shoe irritations) for the most part, so i def spice it up and buy as fun of ones as i can 🙂 i am so glad mizuno is really embracing color lately!
Karen says
I don’t stray unless there’s a good reason to. My legs get angry if I start choosing shoes for color rather than function.
Michel@Babyweightmyfatass says
Those are lovely Mizuno’s! Though the new Mizuno’s I got this year feel like they are about to fall apart already which can’t be good.
And I’m about to head out w/the little one and bringing suntan lotion!
misszippy says
Love that color! I go for the shoe itself, but a little color never hurts. My current ones have an orange sole–love!
Great work on the weight! Good luck this weekend!!
Emily says
I shamefully admit I got shoes based purely on a sale and I hated the look of them – then I fell head over heals, full on smitten with them!
They’re the New Balance WT101 and the perfect blend between trail and road – between my old clunky running shoes and the very minimal shoes. They’re my jam
http://www.zappos.com/new-balance-wt101-black-pink
And I love key lime pie. Especially when it’s bright green and I can feel rebellious eating something so un-natural looking.
Jill says
I need to get the flu so I can lose some weight….it’s not even working for me now that I have someone I’m working with. *sigh*
Love the purple color – awesome!
I were the Saucony Cortanas for long runs. Love them …fear they are going to be discontinued soon. 🙁
Laura says
The flu has been awful this year… I never got it bad, but I’ve had a cough hanging on for weeks now. Hope you’re feeling 100% by your race. And I love that you recognize pi day. 🙂 We have a math professor friend who sends a family newsletter every year to celebrate it. Pie- blueberry.
Sara says
Love your new design!
Carilyn says
I’m a Wave Rider gal, regardless of color – and sometimes they are hideous 🙂
Favorite pie? Black bottom (not to be confused with chocolate) – yum!
Michelle says
purple sneakers = super duper awesome!
deer eating bulbs = my husband the hunter coming for a visit
no weight gain = awesome run time
favorite pie = chocolate cream on graham cracker crust
lindsay says
Those sneakers alone should make you faster, right? Purple flash! haha.
I can’t believe Boston is so soon. EEK!
Ali Mc says
I think your dogs may scare the deer. or an electric fence. those guys are relentless when it comes to a good feast.
PS: those mizunos look sweet!!!!!
Andrea says
I only run in Brooks Adrenalines. I do like it when the color is fun on them though.
Lauren @ LaurenRuns says
Good looking shoes never hurt! I do stick with ones I like – Brooks Pure Cadence, and last year the Brooks Glycerin. Not sure if I’ll use the cadence as I increase back into marathon distance… we’ll see!
Good luck on the half marathon!
Elizabeth says
I’m a brooks girl all the way! Favorite pie is strawberry rhubarb but hard to find a decent one down south- so apple is my second fav!
Bethk says
Those are some really cute shoes! Love them! I hope you half marathon goes well. It’s always hard to come back right after being sick, especially something like the flu. I’m sending positive thoughts your way that it all goes well. Hmm… favorite pie. I guess pumpkin pie because it just comes once a year so it seems like a real treat. Good luck!

Your new site looks awesome!
I’m running in Karhus right now, and initially I didn’t like the funky outrageous colors they came in. Now I can’t get enough of it. I think it’s because before I started running, I kept shoes for a LONG time and wanted to keep them as blendable with my entire wardrobe as possible. Now I see shoes as a four-month (or so) investment. So it’s easier to get crazy with them.
The guys at my local running shop always scoff at you when you ask about shoe colors, which really irks me. If I am about to pay way more than I have to for a pair of shoes, the least you could do is reasonably consider a question about shoe colors.
Erika says
Those shoes will totally rock with the Team Tough Chik jersey!
Laura says
You don’t know how happy I am that my feet love my Nike Lunarglides and they come in wacky colours. I could never go back to white.
marlene says
Wow, congrats on maintaining most of the flu weight loss! That never happens to me. So close to BQ weight! I have a little ways to go.
Jamie @ couchtoironwoman says
Love the shoes! I wear Saucony Mirages for my long runs and Kinvaras for my short runs. I just bought the Saucony Peregrine for trail running! Guess I’m a Saucony girl!
I love almost any pie!
bobbi says
Pumkpin! Or cheesecake (which is more like pie than cake, I say).
Those shoes are so pretty – but I am a more fundamentalist. That said, I wish they made my shoes in prettier colors (brooks adrenalines).
Irene says
First and foremost, functionality is priority, THEN color. If my favorite shoe comes in a color I don’t like (pastels) I’ll get it because of the function, but if they have an alternative color I will get that color instead. I’m not a big fan of pastels for running shoes, I prefer royal blues and reds, and bolder shades of purple. Just because I’m a girl doesn’t mean I automatically like pastels and glitter. I’ll wear pastels in clothing, just not in running shoes.
I’ve switched over to Mizunos Wave Prophecy last year when my Pearl Izumis were discontinued. I’m loving the Wave Prophecy because I never have to think about my feet when I run! Oh, and they come in decent colors. 🙂
Suzanne says
I’ve really been enjoying my Mizuno Wave Riders lately. I’m a fan of most any pie but there’s something about warm cherry pie that’s just too good to pass up!
ThisSassySalmon says
Ah!!! I might have to try those out post-babies. I’ve not been for a run in 6 weeks and I feel like I’m going to go crazy! BUT… I used to be swayed by color… but after all the leg problems I’ve finally given up hope of having stylish running shoes and just go with whatever the folks tell me to buy.
Good Luck in your race!!! Get it girl.
Black Knight says
I used to run with Mizuno but now my favorite are the Asics Gel Cumulus. The color is not important for the trainings but the Black Knight prefers to wear BLACK running shoes (Nike Zoom Waffle Racer) to race.
However your shoes are really beautiful, I like them.
Travel Spot says
I run in Asics, whatever one is on sale. I don’t care what color they are really, but I would prefer not to wear black. They are generally white with blue.
